You can skip most of the Jackal snipers on Outskirts. Once you get to the open area before the tunnels, there's a few you can't skip, but it's manageable. For me, the first area with grenades is where I struggle most. I get to see myself get blasted at 280hz.

For those like me who don't know what these 13 skulls do, they: -Hide your UI -Hide your guns -Make enemies overpoweredly observant (seeing through camouflage) and unlikely to kill each other -Double enemy health and shields -Upgrade enemy tiers to maximum level -Require you to melee kill (not Energy Sword) enemies, allies and destructible objects to recharge your shield/gain overshield -Make unshielded headshots become plasma grenade explosions -Have enemies spam grenades and drop 2 grenades -Set enemy-dropped guns to have half ammo -Give almost all enemies active camouflage -Will make enemies fire faster and more frequently -Ensure that enemies won't flinch -Restart to the last checkpoint if you or your non-existent co-op partner dies (pointless but it's activated anyway)
another reason why original halo 2 is easier. H2A grunt birthday party doesn't create an explosion on headshot but just confetti. on the OG halo 2 it would make a plasma grenade explosion and the effect persists on dead bodies.

I’ve done the entirety of Halo 2 LASO, as with all the halo games, but don’t think I have the patience or mental resolve to do all of the levels without dying in a single sitting. The furthest I’ve ever gotten without dying (keep in mind I took a break between levels) is only mission 4 (The arbiter), so I genuinely don’t think anyone will be doing this anytime soon. Thought more halo players had done this, even though it isn’t exactly common. I pray for those who have the time and balls to actually attempt this challenge

I’ve played a lot of LASO mate, but don’t have any intention of going for this challenge. It took a long time to be able to memorize spawning of certain enemy types, and learn the eye frames used for sword dashing with a sniper scope. Shits hard. Don’t get why it’s so unbelievable. Doesn’t mean I’ve even gotten close to the 11 mission deathless challenge. I did 4. Two years ago. After several years of playing halo LASO campaigns. Not that much of an achievement really. I want to clarify something: in H2+, the AI's "character" properties control their rate-of-fire, which changes based on difficulty, and can be tuned per weapon. It uses a per-difficulty accuracy value to interpolate between its 'inaccurate' to 'really accurate' firing patterns. The "legendary accuracy bounds" upper value is generally 1.0, meaning once that character has been engaging the target without interruption for "legendary accuracy time" (a value in seconds), its ROF will be multiplied by that accuracy upper value, 1.0. Engagement will reset based on a few factors, like losing sight of the target, or getting a new target, etc. The H2's plasma pistol 'really accurate' ROF is 8 (shots per second), unless overridden by more specific "character" properties (e.g., a 'major' jackal is a different character than the 'minor'). When the "Anger" skull is enabled, the ROF is 2x, so in this case up to 16 (shots per second). In addition to characters getting to decide how fast they fire a weapon, the game only has so many ticks it runs per second (game ticks != render frames per second). It doesn't matter if the game's tick rate is 30hz (OG Xbox) or 60hz (H2V and MCC), the game has to fit the designer's firing rate. It will do this by tracking a "bonus shot fraction" value. Once that is > 1, it will fire *two or more* shots during that game tick, instead of just one, then deduct the number of bonus shots actually performed. 30hz / 16 shots per second = 1.875 ticks per shot. Every tick, 0.875 is added to the bonus shot fraction. So every other tick would lead to 2 shots in one tick. 60hz / 16 shots per second = 3.75 ticks per shot. Every 3 ticks, 0.75 is added to the bonus shot fraction. So every 6 ticks would lead to 2 shots in one tick. A "shot" is really a trigger pull. The weapon may be a burst weapon, like the BR fires in 3 round bursts. So a "shot" in that case would mean 3 rounds. If the magazine doesn't have enough rounds to accommodate the bonus shot, the bonus shot will not apply (but it won't be debited) At 60hz, you're seeing a smoother representation of their firing rate. They are *not* shooting faster overall. At 30hz they are more frequently firing two rounds in a single tick. I had to debug all of this while porting Reach to MCC back in 2019 due to a bug claiming AI fired faster on legendary vs legacy (30hz).

I was expecting a bounty increase, but not that big of an increase damn. Hope someone manages to complete it, the last video motivated me to finally try out Halo 2 after having only played 3 (not to try for the bounty of course, just for fun) and even on Heroic Gravemind was a nightmare. I couldn't even imagine doing it on legendary, but with no deaths and all skulls it seems almost impossible. The first room and the prison room are just way too hard. As a side note though, i would love to see a TAS of this challenge done but without the use of glitches. Would be pretty interesting to see just how insane it would be to do glitchless, just playing the game like "normal".

I think this can be done. People can speed run games after a million attempts and not get tired of it. It only takes one person with nothing better to do with his time to finish this, I'm sure of it.

In 2020 I managed to beat Halo 2 SLASO on the anniversary edition but it took me so many death-save&quit cheeses to get through it. I can't imagine doing it with the normal rule, where the level resets when you die, let alone Charlie's rule that resets the entire run. Massive respect to whoever attempts this

I've done LASO without Envy, but doing it deathless seems completely bonkers. There's multiple places that kill you before you can even do anything to the point where it is not even remotely fair rng.
The amount of memorization and pin-point precise practice it would take using save-states at those points in question and honing that skill to be at least somewhat consistent is unfathomable to me.
I just remembered to the mission where it literally starts Master Chief next to two brutes that just gun your ass down. It's either the beginning of High Charity or Gravemind I forgot. No one's going to get good progress at least until like half a year in and they end up becoming FPS gods.

It's hard enough to play through some Halo games on Legendary, let alone Halo 2 Legendary, with even a few skulls on. The perseverance of some folks though has shown me that eventually it will be done, and I gladly await that day.
There's another major difference between classic and anniversary, and that's the functionality of the grunt birthday party skull. In classic headshot kills make plasma grenade explosions, and you can even shoot corpses to make them explode. In anniversary grunts explode in to confetti on headshots, only works on grunts, does no work on corpses.
Changing the bounty from $5,000 to $20,000 was the right choice. Now the person who beats this run can pay off their hospital bills and treat themselves to a few gumballs. The way you beat this is like speedrunning. You complete it with deaths, see how many deaths you sustained. then run it again, hopefully with less deaths every run until deaths become a non issue.
That isn't how you do it. You practice the fuck out of every mission individually so you know what to do instead of making it up as you manage to squeak by usually with the comment 'how the fuck did I not die there?" Ultimately the money is not high enough for how unfun the challenge is.

Act Man has 2 videos that explain a lot of the specifics about Halo 2’s difficulty issues. Some of these are pretty damning and could be your demise based on random chance. That level Gravemind you mentioned starts where you could be killed instantly as soon as the mission begins based on enemy placement. And RNG based if enemies notice you while you are defenseless on a grav lift. If someone potentially made it that far in your challenge and died to that they would probably go clinically insane…
I love that streamers are calling it "The MCC" for Moist Cr1tikal Challenge. Jervalin is running this thing in every spare moment he has, apparently. I think someone will get it at some point because the reward is large, but damn is it ridiculously hard.

He hasn’t woken the sleeping gods yet. I feel like the person who’s gonna beat this is gonna be some obscure person nobody knows about or someone who’s been play for a long time just in secret.
The answer is simple: he just has to submit and official category to Halo Runs (where the halo speedrunning community posts their rules and runs). I didn't even realize this was a thing, I am sure some of the people already speedrunning halo 2 legendary would hop right on board if they knew another challenge category existed. Halo 2 doesn't even have any posted extended categories last I checked (which is what this would be). The two runners shown are sub top 10. This would probably go pretty fast if the top three legendary runners could be convinced to try this run out. The 3rd best MCC runner is still the number 1 OG version runner and that score was from 2019 and he is actively running MCC legendary seeing as his last posted score was from June this year. That said I am positive the majority of Charlie's fan didn't even know this was a thing since this an 18 year old challenge he only recently brought back up when he realized nobody had done it yet and started truing it himself.

I feel like although it will take a long time, this challenge will be completed due to Charlies bounty. It just takes one person to put in the practice on each level, getting every single one down to perfection, then executing it in a run. Looking forward to when the day comes
Apparently gravemind is a gatekeeper because it’s just random in the first 2 seconds and most runs die immediately. So whoever gets lucky there then has to perfect the rest of the game or suffer going through getting lucky again on gravemind.
@@Junuman1 i play halo 2 legendary as my default difficulty, so i am used to the tomfoolery that is the game on legendary. The only thing stopping me from attempting this is Graveminds introduction sequence. Those brutes will shred you, and the Whuppo skull will just get you killed coming down the elevator in the prison section. The rest of the levels, I can see being doable. The biggest run hurter is not having envy by your side.
Copium, The money won't even be a driving factor for this, only the publicity that comes with it. Ain't nobody going to spend x amount of years grinding this game for a measly 20k and i don't think this is doable in the first place.
this is like having to shoot an arrow bullseye onto an invisible target that you don’t know the location of with your bare hands while there’s strong winds that randomly change and 50 elite snipers with aimbot hunting you while the entire earth shifts and shakes
This challenge is improbable, due to the issues with backsmacks not being registered consistently, as well as enemy melee attacks being so random, the hitbox can hit you but deal no damage, or not even touch you and 1-shot you.
Yeah there seems to be luck involved, you gotta just grind for 4 hours and then you may or may not die, you could spend a hundred hours in the game before succeeding even in runs you didn't make a mistake in
When you made the announcement I said to myself "5K is NOT worth the massive stroke you will get trying to do this shit" since I've beaten Halo 2 on Legendary, not LASO, just Legendary, and it took me a week of nonstop play and 17 mental breakdowns. 20K is much more incentivizing, good move Charlie.

My first thought when I heard $5,000 at the challenge reveal was that it was like a comically small bribe, like offering 15 cents to complete regular Legendary without skulls three times in a row. Now, I'll say $20,000 is an improvement.

Would using an Xbox emulator with essentially a save-state with all the skulls already collected work? Or would an emulator allow for too much manipulation of the game as it's running?
He confirmed in the video, that using a save state was allowed if used to pre collect the skulls. But no save scumming, if you die the runs over. There is no shot, i'm buying a xbox to play this, so an emulator is a must.
See, this challenge is already high tier difficult in terms of moments you can actually control through your skill However, there are moments where the game will shit on you even if you did it "correctly", for example, when that guy backsmacked the brute it was supposed to kill it, but obviously it didn't and the streamer died. Just not fair. Another moment is the beginning of Gravemind in general. When you spawn, you are immediately getting shot at while you're in the open and no cover. You can immediately die just from starting the level. You gotta pray to the heavens that the enemy waits 1 second before they start shooting in order for you to even have a chance of surviving Gravemind alone is enough for you go to a mental institute, let alone having LASO and a no death challenge

I know nothing about Halo or this challenge but just from what I'm hearing in this video it sounds like the best way to complete this would be to skip as much as possible with glitches/exploits and engage with enemies as little as possible.

@@yeehawtaw2134 there is, but no-clips in halo generally lead to falling through the map cos the surface is a sketchy shell. Rounds can travel outside the map boundaries too. And ye, you still got the problem of level progress triggers only activating when all enemies up to that point are dead, and the NPCs are definitely not assisting you with that
Even if those two remarkable runners don’t end up completing this challenge first they at least got a shout out from Charlie, which is a pretty great thing

The only experience I have with halo is playing reach when I first got my Xbox 360 (came with the console), and I played that when I was like 11. I will give this challenge a go, wish me luck. Note: I haven’t played an FPS even semi-regularly since BO3

You can skip most of the Jackal snipers on Outskirts. Once you get to the open area before the tunnels, there's a few you can't skip, but it's manageable.
For me, the first area with grenades is where I struggle most. I get to see myself get blasted at 280hz.

I’ve done the entirety of Halo 2 LASO, as with all the halo games, but don’t think I have the patience or mental resolve to do all of the levels without dying in a single sitting. The furthest I’ve ever gotten without dying (keep in mind I took a break between levels) is only mission 4 (The arbiter), so I genuinely don’t think anyone will be doing this anytime soon.
Thought more halo players had done this, even though it isn’t exactly common. I pray for those who have the time and balls to actually attempt this challenge

I’ve played a lot of LASO mate, but don’t have any intention of going for this challenge. It took a long time to be able to memorize spawning of certain enemy types, and learn the eye frames used for sword dashing with a sniper scope. Shits hard. Don’t get why it’s so unbelievable. Doesn’t mean I’ve even gotten close to the 11 mission deathless challenge. I did 4. Two years ago. After several years of playing halo LASO campaigns. Not that much of an achievement really. I want to clarify something: in H2+, the AI's "character" properties control their rate-of-fire, which changes based on difficulty, and can be tuned per weapon. It uses a per-difficulty accuracy value to interpolate between its 'inaccurate' to 'really accurate' firing patterns. The "legendary accuracy bounds" upper value is generally 1.0, meaning once that character has been engaging the target without interruption for "legendary accuracy time" (a value in seconds), its ROF will be multiplied by that accuracy upper value, 1.0. Engagement will reset based on a few factors, like losing sight of the target, or getting a new target, etc. The H2's plasma pistol 'really accurate' ROF is 8 (shots per second), unless overridden by more specific "character" properties (e.g., a 'major' jackal is a different character than the 'minor'). When the "Anger" skull is enabled, the ROF is 2x, so in this case up to 16 (shots per second).
In addition to characters getting to decide how fast they fire a weapon, the game only has so many ticks it runs per second (game ticks != render frames per second). It doesn't matter if the game's tick rate is 30hz (OG Xbox) or 60hz (H2V and MCC), the game has to fit the designer's firing rate. It will do this by tracking a "bonus shot fraction" value. Once that is > 1, it will fire *two or more* shots during that game tick, instead of just one, then deduct the number of bonus shots actually performed.
30hz / 16 shots per second = 1.875 ticks per shot. Every tick, 0.875 is added to the bonus shot fraction. So every other tick would lead to 2 shots in one tick.
60hz / 16 shots per second = 3.75 ticks per shot. Every 3 ticks, 0.75 is added to the bonus shot fraction. So every 6 ticks would lead to 2 shots in one tick.
A "shot" is really a trigger pull. The weapon may be a burst weapon, like the BR fires in 3 round bursts. So a "shot" in that case would mean 3 rounds. If the magazine doesn't have enough rounds to accommodate the bonus shot, the bonus shot will not apply (but it won't be debited)
At 60hz, you're seeing a smoother representation of their firing rate. They are *not* shooting faster overall. At 30hz they are more frequently firing two rounds in a single tick.
I had to debug all of this while porting Reach to MCC back in 2019 due to a bug claiming AI fired faster on legendary vs legacy (30hz).

I was expecting a bounty increase, but not that big of an increase damn. Hope someone manages to complete it, the last video motivated me to finally try out Halo 2 after having only played 3 (not to try for the bounty of course, just for fun) and even on Heroic Gravemind was a nightmare. I couldn't even imagine doing it on legendary, but with no deaths and all skulls it seems almost impossible. The first room and the prison room are just way too hard.
As a side note though, i would love to see a TAS of this challenge done but without the use of glitches. Would be pretty interesting to see just how insane it would be to do glitchless, just playing the game like "normal".

In 2020 I managed to beat Halo 2 SLASO on the anniversary edition but it took me so many death-save&quit cheeses to get through it. I can't imagine doing it with the normal rule, where the level resets when you die, let alone Charlie's rule that resets the entire run.

I've done LASO without Envy, but doing it deathless seems completely bonkers. There's multiple places that kill you before you can even do anything to the point where it is not even remotely fair rng.

There's another major difference between classic and anniversary, and that's the functionality of the grunt birthday party skull. In classic headshot kills make plasma grenade explosions, and you can even shoot corpses to make them explode. In anniversary grunts explode in to confetti on headshots, only works on grunts, does no work on corpses.
Changing the bounty from $5,000 to $20,000 was the right choice. Now the person who beats this run can pay off their hospital bills and treat themselves to a few gumballs.

The way you beat this is like speedrunning. You complete it with deaths, see how many deaths you sustained. then run it again, hopefully with less deaths every run until deaths become a non issue.

Act Man has 2 videos that explain a lot of the specifics about Halo 2’s difficulty issues. Some of these are pretty damning and could be your demise based on random chance. That level Gravemind you mentioned starts where you could be killed instantly as soon as the mission begins based on enemy placement. And RNG based if enemies notice you while you are defenseless on a grav lift. If someone potentially made it that far in your challenge and died to that they would probably go clinically insane…
It is highly recommended to use several performance enhancements drugs during the challenge for best results

I love that streamers are calling it "The MCC" for Moist Cr1tikal Challenge. Jervalin is running this thing in every spare moment he has, apparently. I think someone will get it at some point because the reward is large, but damn is it ridiculously hard.

He hasn’t woken the sleeping gods yet. I feel like the person who’s gonna beat this is gonna be some obscure person nobody knows about or someone who’s been play for a long time just in secret.
The answer is simple: he just has to submit and official category to Halo Runs (where the halo speedrunning community posts their rules and runs). I didn't even realize this was a thing, I am sure some of the people already speedrunning halo 2 legendary would hop right on board if they knew another challenge category existed. Halo 2 doesn't even have any posted extended categories last I checked (which is what this would be). The two runners shown are sub top 10. This would probably go pretty fast if the top three legendary runners could be convinced to try this run out. The 3rd best MCC runner is still the number 1 OG version runner and that score was from 2019 and he is actively running MCC legendary seeing as his last posted score was from June this year.
That said I am positive the majority of Charlie's fan didn't even know this was a thing since this an 18 year old challenge he only recently brought back up when he realized nobody had done it yet and started truing it himself.

I feel like although it will take a long time, this challenge will be completed due to Charlies bounty. It just takes one person to put in the practice on each level, getting every single one down to perfection, then executing it in a run. Looking forward to when the day comes
Apparently gravemind is a gatekeeper because it’s just random in the first 2 seconds and most runs die immediately. So whoever gets lucky there then has to perfect the rest of the game or suffer going through getting lucky again on gravemind.
@@Junuman1 i play halo 2 legendary as my default difficulty, so i am used to the tomfoolery that is the game on legendary. The only thing stopping me from attempting this is Graveminds introduction sequence. Those brutes will shred you, and the Whuppo skull will just get you killed coming down the elevator in the prison section. The rest of the levels, I can see being doable. The biggest run hurter is not having envy by your side.
Copium, The money won't even be a driving factor for this, only the publicity that comes with it. Ain't nobody going to spend x amount of years grinding this game for a measly 20k and i don't think this is doable in the first place.

this is like having to shoot an arrow bullseye onto an invisible target that you don’t know the location of with your bare hands while there’s strong winds that randomly change and 50 elite snipers with aimbot hunting you while the entire earth shifts and shakes
This challenge is improbable, due to the issues with backsmacks not being registered consistently, as well as enemy melee attacks being so random, the hitbox can hit you but deal no damage, or not even touch you and 1-shot you.

When you made the announcement I said to myself "5K is NOT worth the massive stroke you will get trying to do this shit" since I've beaten Halo 2 on Legendary, not LASO, just Legendary, and it took me a week of nonstop play and 17 mental breakdowns.

My first thought when I heard $5,000 at the challenge reveal was that it was like a comically small bribe, like offering 15 cents to complete regular Legendary without skulls three times in a row.

He confirmed in the video, that using a save state was allowed if used to pre collect the skulls. But no save scumming, if you die the runs over. There is no shot, i'm buying a xbox to play this, so an emulator is a must.

See, this challenge is already high tier difficult in terms of moments you can actually control through your skill
However, there are moments where the game will shit on you even if you did it "correctly", for example, when that guy backsmacked the brute it was supposed to kill it, but obviously it didn't and the streamer died. Just not fair. Another moment is the beginning of Gravemind in general. When you spawn, you are immediately getting shot at while you're in the open and no cover. You can immediately die just from starting the level. You gotta pray to the heavens that the enemy waits 1 second before they start shooting in order for you to even have a chance of surviving
Gravemind alone is enough for you go to a mental institute, let alone having LASO and a no death challenge

I know nothing about Halo or this challenge but just from what I'm hearing in this video it sounds like the best way to complete this would be to skip as much as possible with glitches/exploits and engage with enemies as little as possible.
You have to kill all the enemies to progress through levels pretty much

@@yeehawtaw2134 there is, but no-clips in halo generally lead to falling through the map cos the surface is a sketchy shell. Rounds can travel outside the map boundaries too. And ye, you still got the problem of level progress triggers only activating when all enemies up to that point are dead, and the NPCs are definitely not assisting you with that

Jokes aside, I'm really fascinated at how Charlie genuinely wants someone to be able to complete the challenge, so much so that even after he raised the bounty he still continued giving tips on how to complete it alongside streamers who have gotten really close!
