Great port. Environment-shading is off/broken, though. On N64 things get darker or foggier the farther aaway they get, on PS2 not so. Also, PS2 jumps ahead in the demos due to not lagging lol
Nice port. Some of the other commentators seem to think it should look “better” but actually I think it’s great you preserve the original aesthetic with some subtle enhancements due to the ps2 hardware. I mean it people want a super clean, high res version you’re basically asking for a remake. Why not just build it from scratch in unity then🤷♂️
Because the SM64 Port can be used to flex by the owner, but also it can run on underpowered-by-today's-standards machines, like the Nintendo DSi and that includes the PS2. Also, I don't know if it's easier to port a game or to remake it. It depends but for SM64, I don't know.
Damn I wasn't expecting the PS2 version to look so much better then the original N64 (yes i know the PS2 is more powerfull but this is a fan made port)
Not really that much more powerful on the 3d side, it was just that Nintendo skimped heavily on the video ram to keep prices low and hence put developers into corset they could not escape. The SGI gpu in the N64 was pretty good workstation class level stuff, Nintendo just cheapened out on the video RAM and hence everything looked washed out and blurry and also the lack of space on the modules did not help either to fix the problem.
The first PS2 games could almost pass as N64 games, Half Life, Unreal Tournament, Red Faction, compare against Perfect Dark or Turok 3, I know the framerate is on the low side on N64 but on the visual side there's really not much of a difference.
It is not impressive since PS2 is like 60 times more powerful. What i found impressive however is that it loads fast considering it isnt using cartridges, but again, maybe the extra hardware really compensates that.
The N64 had one advantage: the resolution of the TV-sets of that era were so low res that it really didn't make much of a difference. They were around 480-576 lines 'high' - therefore you should compare the images at around 480p and then there's very little difference between the N64 and the PS2. So the real world difference was pretty small to non-existent. At least for this game. When it came to multiplayer the PS2 was (IMO) a bit smoother in splitscreen mode.
In fact not since the port to ps2 came out a few years ago, when the ps5 was being announced so everything you said is invalid since not everyone had those old TVs anymore
im guessing the PS2 lighting problem is because natively it only outputs 24bit color depth compare to N64 that has 32bit, you can clearly see the color banding in the ghost castle area.
What do you mean? Of course you'll never see Nintendo games on Playstation consoles officially, regardless if the system can handle it, so yeah, this work belongs to the fans or hackers.

I own a N64 and I’ll admit, it is very pixelated. Oh and I love how Mario calls bowser gay.
Yeah, N64 has a poor resolution
Due to a problem of he said that. Fans think its "So long Gay bowser!" But he actually said "So long Eh bowser!" If you hear correctly.
@Mr Sanker Its kinga bowser.w
Actually he says Shalom gay Bowser

It seems the N64 version has aliasing and better lighting, when the Playstation 2 seems to have very poor lighting, and it has anti aliasing.
The aliasing can be caused by the poor resolution of 320x224 on N64, on PS2 It runs at 640x480, that's why It looks cleaner.

@@yasunakaikumi i think the last 8 bits are for transparency (I haven't read the specs)

PS2 can go up to 1080i on select titles. 480p is common for PS2 games in general.
Actually 480i is the common for PS2, only a few games support 480p, as for 1080i the only game that comes to my mind is Gran Turismo 4.
Imagine porting Zelda OOT on the PS2
that would be neat
Did you plug the n64 port on the back of the ps2?
xD

Exactly

PS2 should look basically the same as the VC version
not really because the VC is emulated and the PS2 is native.

Double the resolution, ridiculous (so little) graphical glitches, no normal glitches.

no, because it's using the SM64 code adapted to work natively on PS2, it's not an emulator, its a port.
