Thank you for reviewing Gino! I’ve been listening to him since 1975. He is the first white vocalist on Soul Train. Also, Gino started on drums before he started on vocals. He always has fantastic musicians, but the drums are always 🔥.
This song TORE out of the radio in 1974. That's Gino's brother Joe playin' the Wurly (a Wurlitzer electric piano), and a Korg synth for the bass and fat horn sounds! The drummer is definitely in the zone! The brothers Vannelli have some amazing music from that era. "The Wheels of Life," "Lady," "Powerful People" (which I think you've reacted to), "I Just Wanna Stop" are a few more.
Gen was a hit from the beginning. My female neighbors used to have Geno Vanelli Parties with drinks and food on the regular. Never was he underrated here in the USA.
I'm a 50 year old Canadian dude (and professional musician) and Gino has been pumping in my veins (thanks to radio and musical parents) for my entire life. I was five years old when I really got into Gist of the Gemini and I have been one of Gino's biggest fans every since. Dude is only 20 years older than I am! He's still working and sounding better than most anyone else is the biz. Great review. I'll subscribe. Have you checked out Jeff Buckley yet?
Joe Vannelli on keys, that man could groove. He's playing the keyboard bass line as well. I think you've only done one other Gino song so far, Storm at Sunup. I think you should go back and check out your reaction on that one, you were through the freakin' roof over it. Gino has a LOT of great tracks.
@@scottmcgregor562 Someone pointed out a misspelled word or grammatical error I posted. But I'd rather keep that misspelled word or grammatical error right up there and NOT go back and correct that word and just LEAVE IT AS IT IS--rather than being seen as someone who DEFERS and follows the directions of others when they identify an error that I made.
Thanks for reacting to this incredible artist! This was an excellent choice. “Brother to Brother” would blow you away! Thanks again! You got yourself another subscriber.
He's a classic sound, the Jam back in the day.. Tks for the song and always genuine reaction 💕 he definitely needs to be on the playlist for get up and move or move in your seat 🤣
Loving your reaction to this song and Storm at Sunup previously. I’m an ultimate Gino fan so it’s so cool to see you enjoying his music and hearing your commentary. Gino’s first instrument was the drums, so I loved hearing your take on the drumming on this cut, knowing how particular Gino is about every aspect of musicianship. He’s a gifted singer, songwriter, musician and producer. One of the most underrated artists ever. I hope you will take time to get to know more of his music - highly recommend that you check out Brother to Brother next - the song and album.
Thank you for the Vanelli I was shocked that nobody does is music he did so much great music Talen from Montreal! In the disco and on radio he was everywere!
I was married to a base player back in the 80s and him and his drummer (a huge Gino obessed fan) even looked like him...were playing this song and sounded sooo very closed to it. The crowd would cheer the whole time. That base line is out of this worl kick as*. I like when "reactors" know their music and can discern the greatness of the composition. Good job!
I 've loved Gino Vanelli since the 70s. Thanks for the video. I wish more UA-cam reactors would cover his music since it seems ripe for discovery by a wider .modern audience. Please check out his song 'Powerful People' from this same album.
It's his most commercial album, but far from his best. And it's one of the few albums where he DIDN"T write every song-r was a co-writer. His brother Ross wrote "I Just Wanna Sop" and "Love and Emotion"
I was looking through my younger sisters cassettes back in the mid 1970’s and found “Crazy Life” and gave it a listen. I’ve been a Gino fan ever since! Still have his music on my playlist today.
It's amazing how they got that great fat sound out of a Wurlitzer electric piano. I'd played one myself in the same era. They must have really honed that sound production-wise.
I may never have heard of this guy if it weren't for my girlfriend in college (now my wife) - the women LOVED him!! Surprisingly didn't get a lot of airplay where I was. If you played his, Boz Scaggs, Earth Wind & Fire and George Benson albums at a party you were set!
Gino is my all time favorite artist. Saw him in Charlotte in 1979 and to this day the best show I've ever seen. You need to try Powerful People, Valleys of Valhalla, Brother to Brother, I Just Wanna Stop, Wheels of Life, Wild Horses, Black Cars just to name a few. You really can't go wrong with any of them.
Hey Chod,Thanks for all you do I can't live without the music. Please! Please! Please! check out the live version of this. I think it is one of the best videos on UA-cam period! The drummer shines big time and Gino plays the drums also. Its in a small club I believe in Montreal on July 22 2010.You will not be disappointed my friend.
As a musician and a Radio DJ in the 70's I played Gino until the cart was no longer good! LOL! A super great musician and producer! Gino's drummer is a monster!
Ok, so, listen to the whole lps, Brother To Brother, and Nightwalker. Ridiculous great music but, for me, Mark Craney and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. DO IT!! Whole lps!!
Chod, you've only reacted to one song by him and you said "NOW THAT WAS MUSIC" and needed to be on vinyl. Wish you would have played the song that it merged into to that brings it to the next level. His brother, Joe, was the keyboardist and arranger of the songs. Try the title track "Powerful People" next. Then go back for yourself and revisit the first one "Storm at Sunup" with the second part "Love Me Now" with excellent keyboard and drums. Here is that link: ua-cam.com/video/wrhWNfb2o1Y/v-deo.html
R2D, did you know Stevie Wonder asked him to "open" for him? Keyboards are by his brother, Joe. Being a drummer you know the rhythm section rules or ruins, to a point.
Just watch the journey video from 1986 I'll be all right without you and it's the first video I've seen that you actually get to see Randy Jackson playing and interacting with the band so I know you mentioned that a while back I thought you might want to watch this video it's a good song too

Some good old Gino, from Montreal, Quebec Canada. Yay!

Such an underrated artist. Maybe the most underrated of all time.
Maybe in the States and Europe, but in Canada he was a Masterpiece, like Dominic Troiano was too.
Gen was a hit from the beginning. My female neighbors used to have Geno Vanelli Parties with drinks and food on the regular. Never was he underrated here in the USA.
No not here in Holland!! He live here now
So glad you came back to Gino Vannelli ! A great artist! He is right up your alley, being jazzy! Try "Wheels of Life" , you'll love it!
Living inside myself. I just wanna stop.
Brother to Brother!

'Brother to Brother' encapsulates everything you like in Gino. What a reaction that would be !!!

Saw him live twice in the 70's and he was fantastic! Walk into any disco in any city in the mid 70's and you would hear this song.
"Brother to Brother" and "Appaloosa" ...are two great songs that will blow your socks off! Love Gino! Also "Where am I Going?" is a Masterpiece!
I REMEMBER HEARING 'I JUST WANNA STOP' THE FIRST TIME ... AWESOME
Try bending your ears to Gino Vanelli's jazz fusion. Appaloosa, Brother to Brother and Mardi Gras with solos that will leave your jaw on the floor.
Maybe next time you will spell his name correctly.

I think Gino's music is like Pink Floyd, Santana and Steely Dan in that he is kinda his own genre of music. Nobody else sounds like him or them.

Gino’s Valleys of Valhalla, is one of many great ones he has.
Great example of what made music so incredible back in the day. Talented musicians who just lay it down without relying on tech tricks.....
