Very well explained. Worked perfectly on our 2006 A4 Cabriolet. Be warned there is very little spare wire on the female connector. Also, the 10 mm splined socket we used was too tall to get the back seat screws when on the ratchet. We ended up putting the socket in the screw and turning it with a wrench. FYI, the dealer had quoted $1,700 to fix the issue. You really saved the day (and dollars).
Thanks a lot for the video! I fixed my 2006 Passat B6 on both seats today. Finally no light anymore! I used Wago 221 connectors. They work really great for this. Best greetings from Germany!
Hello Rodrigo, please how did you manage to get access to this connector at the back ? Did you remove the back of th seat (the plastic piece of it ? ) thanks for the help
@@josedacosta5918 Yes, just remove the plastic piece in the back of the seat. In my case, I completely removed the seat because I did not know it ahahhah
Great video. Just a quick question to run by you....one side of the connector has blue/black/brown wires going into it and the other end of the connector blue and black only. Do you just blank off the brown wire? And also I have the length in the wires to directly connect without extension pieces, is that normal?
This procedure follows the solution designed by VW for these specific codes. The upper limit being the acceptable amount of resistance. Your codes might be pointing to another issue. I would look up your codes on the Rosstech website and see what the issues are
Interesting. Might be a bad airbag in the seat. There are ways to check but I'm not sure I should try explaining that here. Look up how to test with airbag emulator. It can let you know if the airbag is the problem, safely
Hey, just did the fix but I am still getting a n199 code but instead of getting upper exceed it has now switched to short to earth. I double checked my connections to ensure a proper connection. Any ideas as where it is shorted?
Hey there, just came across your video, very helpful. I followed your video up to the point where I was looking under the seat at the wiring and noticed immediately that this had already been done by the previous owner of my A4 B6. The airbag light is currently on and I'm now suspecting that it's either the yellow connector that's covered under the carpet/floor or the original fix has a loose connection. The airbag light came on a few weeks ago after I moved the driver's seat forward. My question is should I remove the yellow connector (floor) and do the same fix?
Ok. Yeah I would try re-doing the connection that was done. 1, it's easier to do and 2, it sees for vibration and motion than the one in the floor. I could be wrong, but that's the order I would use. Good luck and let me know what you find!
Hi my daughter as a Audi A1 it's only done 52.000 miles and I'm being told it needs a clock spring behind the steering wheel for the horn and air bag it's a 14 plat and low mileage have you eney ideas why it needs one already
I would start with inspecting the module, pins and harness plug. Could be a bent or broken pin. And make sure the module is properly grounded. Or it could even be a bad module
Hello, question for you. I have a 2004 Audi TT and have the airbag light issue. I tried to clear the error with a VAG device, it didn't work. So I was looking for a solution. I would like to try yours, but before I do, do you know if the light is on, does it mean the airbag won't deploy? Second question, I don't think I could do that fix myself, do you think a local shop would be able to fix? if so, how would I explain it to them ?
+Michael DeStefano Your are correct, if the light is on, airbags are not operational. If you showed a shop the TSB, they might be able to help you. It really all depends on what codes you actually have
@@audimotive Good morning Mr , please, may you reply ? On Audi A4 B9 - 2018 I have the airbag light on and 2 errors code: B10381B and B 10391B, what I should change ? Before to change something, I should disconnect the battery ? Thank you for your help .
Hello, thanks for the video. I have a fault code 00654( driver side seatbelt igniter N153 resistance too low/high),if I apply this same method, will it fix it? How about connecting the wires direct without having to form the linking wires you crimped. Thanks
I don't believe that this video will help your codes. The TSB I followed was to fix codes for the seat airbag igniter. Your code, 00654, is for the seat belt tensioner, which is located at the bottom of the B pillar. Have you checked the code on the ross tech wiki page? They have some suggested things to check
My audi a4 has the air bag light on but no code and i did unplug and plug a connector under passenger side. Is it maybe this same issue as on the video?
If your light is on, you will have a code. You can't read it with a standard OBD2 scanner though. Need a VCDS or an SRS code reader to see it. Can't say whether or not its the same issue
Hi I have on side which the wires are brown black and blue and the other side brown green and white I presume brown goes to brown so is it blue to white black to green Or. Black to white and blue to green
Always sucks to do some work and have no one comment on it. Very useful for a fella like me. I will do the repair this weekend and let you know if that solves the issue.
Watching you use those cheap pliers is painful :) Get an inexpensive set of Klein or something; way less effort to crimp.. Anyway, you mentioned cutting 4 wires from the connector, but only reconnected two wires.. what about the other 2? My TT only has 3 wires, so I'm still at a loss ..
+Geriatric Ginger I keep telling my wife that I could use a tool upgrade but the request keeps getting denied :) but you are right, better tools make the job a lot easier. I think I mis-spoke when I said 4 wires. There are only 2 on the A4. I'm not sure why your car would have 3 wires. You are referring to the airbag connector, right?
+Rick Wall from what I could tell reading about this exact issue online, people are saying that if redoing the wiring does not solve the problem, then you would need a new airbag unit. You might want to see if you can find anything else. This solution has been problem free for me since I've done it

Hey man great to hear that it helped you!
Thanks for taking the time to do this vid - I've just fixed my golf exactly the same way and my airbag light is off too - YEAH!! Good stuff!!!
That's awesome!
Thanks for the video! It solved my problem!
In my case, I have a Audi A3 8p of 2003 tree doors and this connecter is within the back of the seat!

Do you have a shop in New York,? I have the same problem
It will helps when vcds fault is not upper limit exceeded like you but is lower limit exceeded? Same repair procedure? Thanks!

I only have the one connector going into the floor does this fix still apply?
I did this but the code came back. So is possible that is the actual airbag sensor in the door pillar.
That is correct. What I showed is the common problem, but the igniter itself can be bad as well
Nice work fella! Need to do this on a MY06 Golf variant 👍🏻
Can i leave battery plugged in, as i have an A8L 2006 and will lose encoding when detaching battery ?

I would re-do the original fix first. Did you pull the codes for the airbag light? It could be something totally different
Yes, I pulled the fault code and its identical to the one in your video.

hi there, nice video. how tightthe seat nuts should be made in torque. thanks
Im not sure about the torque. I just did it tight. Maybe put some locktite on the bolts
Do you have a shop in New York,i have the same problem,i need it to be fix
No I left New York several years ago. Its not hard to do yourself though.
I have 23 faults code related to the airbag
I would clear the codes and see what comes back. Maybe some are old codes. Maybe some come from the same issue, like a bad shared ground
That’s the problem,i can’t clear them, it’s says no signal / communications on airbag control module
I would start with inspecting the module, pins and harness plug. Could be a bent or broken pin. And make sure the module is properly grounded. Or it could even be a bad module
Is this the same procedure in audi a4 b7 driver side igniter light fault.?

So the fix is to remove those connectors from the harness and crimp the wires together that were previously connected by the connectors?
Correct. Follow the TSB

You can try that. But TSB says to replace the connector
Is there a way to determine if driver side or passenger side?

Am i not supossed to weld the cables together?
I guess not. The TSB says to crimp them together, so that's what I did.
U skipped the step of stripping the wires on the female connector.
Not every step can be included in every video. Some things are left to common sense
