Sweet bike. , I was a Hodaka nut in my younger days. I started out with a Super Rat 100 then got a Combat Wombat. The Super Combat was next on my list. I noticed on yours the frame seems to be a lighter blue. I think the original frame color was more of a Navy blue. Still an awesome bike.
I had a Combat Wombat and then added a Super Combat. I could still tell you all the differences in the powertrain between the two. They were mostly the same with some key differences. The latter had a reed valve between the carb and intake, bigger carb, ported piston, higher compression head, different pipe. Seemed to almost double the horsepower. The Combat Wombat wasn't really competitive with the Honda Elsinore on the motocross track, but the Super Combat leveled the field.
i guess Im asking randomly but does any of you know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Kason Eduardo I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I had one EXACTLY like that. I bought it in about 1990 or so, Rode the hell out of it. Never had engine trouble but the suspension was a back breaker. Sprocket was HUGE, you could climb a telephone pole with that thing. Eventually the gearbox went bad and I junked it. WIsh I never did that now.
I remember reading a book when I was a kid about motocross and it featured primarily these old Hodakas. Ended up a Yamaha guy, but I still want a Hodaka before I die.
All this brings back my childhood dreams of the dirt bikes of the time. We didn't have much money when I was a kid, but it started with a used Rupp minibike that was in nice shape. Pretty cool minibike with a torque converter, full suspension, front and rear brakes. It was pretty quick too. Then on to a Honda XR75, Yamaha GT 80, DT 250 and a few more. Listening to this Video sounds like my neighborhood when I was a Kid! Good Times! Fun Video! Thanks!
My first bike back in 1979 was a 1974 Hodaka Wombat 125., chrome fenders, chrome gas tank, rack on the back, blinkers tail and headlight. Man I miss those days! Picked up the bike on a trip in our motorhome at a garage sale in Montana when I was 15. My Stepdad paid $300 for it with travelers checks. I put a lot of miles on that bike. It's what brought me back to dual sporting in 2006 with my brand new Kawasaki KLX 250s. I have 18,000 miles on it currently, its been a blast getting back into riding. I'll never sell this one.
125 DIRT BIKES A BEAUTIFUL THING BEAUTIFUL SOUNDING A 125 YAMAHA YZ OR MX! HODAKA COMBAT WOMBAT & DIRT SQUIRT ALL KIDS WANTED ONE IN 1970S!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES OF DIRT BIKE RIDING AND MOTOCROSS RIDING!! EVEN THE SMELL OF THESE LITTLE 125S OR 80S!!
Wow!! That looks intense..that looks like my combat wombat!! Mine was mostly black..the gas tank was black an chrome!! I loved it..mine got stolen..I hooked off school to go riding with my friends an I came out to leave an it was gone..that was a very sad day!!!🇺🇲🇬🇧💪😎
It is rare. Love it. I was poor kid but Hodaka sold me a brand new 125 engine they claimed would bolt right in 😮my 100B frame . It did! And purchased new 125 forks. They said no on 21 in. front wheel. Had German Gurling shocks with dual rate springs and adjustable dampening! I had to fit my Hooker exhaust with hand made brackets. It was a great bike.
I had a 100cc Hodaka in the UK in 1974, raced it in Schoolboy scramble. Nobody knew who Hodaka was then, & in the UK still don't. Competition Developments based in St Albans UK had got a Super Rat engine & built a frame around it. I literally rung the nuts off it for a few years & it NEVER let me down. Not many Bultaco & Husqvarna's you could say that about. What a shame they were never available in the UK.
I remember the Hodaka Dealer in Hanford CA had these and the Combat Wombat, and Road Toad... I think Hodaka was based out of Oregon with their bikes being made in Taiwan... I also remember that "Poweroll" sp? Based out of Oregon had power parts for Honda 70/90/110 back in the 70's
Beautiful bike. The frame color is a lighter blue than the original color though. Other than that looks just like the one I bought new in the 1970's. :-) Great bike. Looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing! :-)
Back in the day I bought new a CZ 125, kept that a while, then bought a new CZ250 Red Frame also my friend down the street had a Carabella 125, I had many dirt bikes back then, YZ 490, Ossa 250, Then a new Honda Elsinore 250, The all red one, And the last one was a KTM 400SX, that was a real fast bike, Back in my fun days! Thanks. I wonder where they are now?
I still have mine. That frame color looks a shade too light. Still have the stand too as they don't have a kick stand. Take it too Hodaka Days! I wonder if they are still doing that in 2020.
If I remember correctly it was a WOMBAT COMBAT !A buddy of mine was the only one in my area that had that very same type of JAWA CZ 250 .very sweet bikes ! Sure does bring back good memories growing up !👍 ok did some checking and yours is indeed the Super combat and NOT THE WOMBAT ! My Bad lol
My Buddy Tony bought one brand new for next to nothing back in 75. I don't want to say how much he paid but he got change back from the four bills he gave the dealer.
I’ve never seen one of those! Looks great! We had more Yamaha yz’s and Honda Cr’s in my area in central NJ back in the 1970’s when I was a teen. There were actually places to ride back then. I’m a amateur restorer of mostly vintage Yamaha dirt bikes from that era but my small collection is limited to the twin shock yz80’s and xr75’s from the early to mid 70’s. I have a lot of great memories on those minicycles. Anyway, your museum is awesome and I’ll be visiting in the near future. Just dropped my daughter off at UCONN last week in Storrs for her freshman year and realized your awesome outfit is only 15-20 mins away. Looking forward to it. Regards.
Damn! That is one fast and gorgeous vintage motocrosser. Very nice, although I like the Green Penton 6 Days Bike More. Hodaka bike seems faster though. I don't know the CC's of the Penton.
Had a Super Combat that I raced in the mid-late 70's. They were absolute screamers but Hodaka was a bit behind the 125's from Japan when it came to suspensions. The bike in this videos frame is not the correct shade of blue. The original frames were a darker shade of blue than that Richard Petty blue that's on thar one. Sweet bike no matter what color the frame is, brings back great memories of a better time.
Oh holee sheep shit ... I had that Jersey . how in the heeeell did you get one that looks brand new..ive got a longass sob story that goes with this but I'll spare u this time. Did I say holee shit that Jersey. Mine meant a lot to me . I had the beanie that matched..sweet bike too.
Kaplan has a dream life. Riding all different bikes and able to do it everyday at any time. Awesome brother.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, couldnt imagine the stress of all those responsibilities but other than that he's living the life.
@@WeldersOnly responsibility makes dreams happen brother
When I win the $500 million Power Ball I'm coming to buy you out lock, stock & barrel.
Right.
Sweet bike. , I was a Hodaka nut in my younger days. I started out with a Super Rat 100 then got a Combat Wombat. The Super Combat was next on my list. I noticed on yours the frame seems to be a lighter blue. I think the original frame color was more of a Navy blue. Still an awesome bike.

I have a 1975 Honda CR 125 Elsinore that my mom raced back in 76’. Absolutely love the vintage bikes
i guess Im asking randomly but does any of you know of a method to log back into an Instagram account??
I stupidly forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!

Thank you so much, you really help me out :D
@Samson Andre you are welcome :D
I had one EXACTLY like that. I bought it in about 1990 or so, Rode the hell out of it. Never had engine trouble but the suspension was a back breaker. Sprocket was HUGE, you could climb a telephone pole with that thing. Eventually the gearbox went bad and I junked it. WIsh I never did that now.
Awesome bike ! I grew up with this stuff...of course I'm 64 but I still ride em !
I can stop looking for vintage dirt bikes, these guys have them all.
I love the smell of premix coming popping out of a cold high strung 2 strokes in the morning.
I remember reading a book when I was a kid about motocross and it featured primarily these old Hodakas. Ended up a Yamaha guy, but I still want a Hodaka before I die.

Fun Video! Thanks!
I think the white tank CZ is the 125 MX. I has one and raced ir in 1974, 1975.. I also owned and raced the Hodaka Super Combat!
My first bike back in 1979 was a 1974 Hodaka Wombat 125., chrome fenders, chrome gas tank, rack on the back, blinkers tail and headlight. Man I miss those days! My dad bought me a brand new 1975 Hodaka 100cc dirt squirt when I was 15 years old. At the time they were pretty fast and good bikes.
I like the sound of allí those vintage motorcycles, they are pretty good tune, really really good job dude that's awesome
I had the ace 100 in 72 , i was 7 years old. Loved that bike.
Raced a Hodaka super Rat at Los Vegas Mini Mint team race. 1 up 4 down buzzar shift pattern! Our had the completely chrome tank! Loved it
One of the best fun bikes to start on 13 years old little hard on the landing compaired to the bikes today.
Wow!! That looks intense..that looks like my combat wombat!! Mine was mostly black..the gas tank was black an chrome!! I loved it..mine got stolen..I hooked off school to go riding with my friends an I came out to leave an it was gone..that was a very sad day!!!🇺🇲🇬🇧💪😎
Simply love your channel... The bikes.. The wolverine sideburns... Everything 👍👍
Livin the dream!!!!! Thats so cool. I love your History Channel for Dirtbikes!!!! Nothin like it Mr. Kaplan.
My brother owned a road toad, my cousin had a combat wombat and I had a Can Am TNT...I guess my family was into strange motorcycles.
It is rare.
Such a beautiful place you’ll have there, hope to visit one day soon. Thanks guys

Back in the early 70s before Honda Elsinores came along theses Hodaka's were pretty fast and competitive Bikes.A friend of mine had a Wombat Combat.

Power Roll was out of Bend Oregon they were four stroke builders they made a kit for a Yamaha TT 500 they called it the 605 killer

When the Honda 125 came out in 74 it totally destroyed Hodaka sales.

Beautiful motorcycle.
My Bad lol
There was a Wombat, a Combat Wombat and a Super Combat Wombat if I recall correctly.
My Buddy Tony bought one brand new for next to nothing back in 75. I don't want to say how much he paid but he got change back from the four bills he gave the dealer.
They were something like $379 brand new.
Beautiful building yr museum 👍🏼
I bought a new one and loved it.

I've always wanted one of these...
i almost feel bad for old bikes in really good shape, unless they were refurbished, it means someone just didn't ride them the way they should of!
Damn! That is one fast and gorgeous vintage motocrosser. Very nice, although I like the Green Penton 6 Days Bike More. Hodaka bike seems faster though. I don't know the CC's of the Penton.
I put a hodaka 125 (unknown year/model) rear wheel on my 1975 indian 125 because I had to. It worked.
I love how you just man handle that wheelie- takin control respecting the bike- ohh dude she’s a screamer !
How quick were these compared to the TMs and CRs?
Me and this dude are the same into dirt bikes and timber frames if he is into all things firearms shit would be crazy
I have a 74 as well like new and un restored even have the hodaka racing stand.
I had a Wombat, a Combat Wombat, and I bought an engine from a Super Rat that was modded for... road racing. Lol
