I'm a self taught Skagit caster. Your videos especially and some of Ed Wards videos made me the caster I am today (which is advanced at best). I use a switch rod with ultra short skagit heads for pike and taimen. To make things even worse, my flies are 6" and 8" long and quite bulky. But I pulled it of. Step by step I figured it out, sometimes you helped me, sometimes Ed's advice was more helpful. In the end, you both do amazing work and I am grateful for your teachings.
Reminds me of riding a skateboard in the 80s. You’re not a real skater unless you….. Your just a poser unless you…. Gotta do what the cool guys are doing…..
Hi Tim. I want to have a go at filming my own Spey casting. Just wondering what camera you use for your films? I have a GoPro hero 8 which I would imagine should do the job? Any filming tips would be very welcome and appreciated. Thanks Tim and happy casting.
That GoPro should be great for both pov and behind you if it’s close. The trick is to find a place where the sun can hit the line but it’s against a shaded back drop. I look for certain bends in the rive at certain times of the day, often it’s early, or later in the day. Good luck!
Sounds like the old guy at the bluegrass jam telling all the college students “that ain’t real bluegrass” except you’re saying that to the Skagit Master.
Exactly for that reason i don't wear boxes and other shit in my front pockets, always wondered how Ward managed casting with all that gear sitting there on his chest.
Maybe you or your subscribers can help with my rod grain question. I am looking at a Spey rod and considering purchasing it and want to make sure I get the lines right. It has a stamp on it 13’ 0” 7wt and Grains 510-620 These lines and tips are pretty expensive to get it wrong and have to keep buying things until it is balanced. Here is my question, example-does this mean I should use 575gr shooting head and 10’ of T8(80gr) adds up to 655gr, so is this overloading this rod? Do you just consider the Skagit head weight only, so the head can be 510-620, then what tip do you use, is there a calculation? I am looking to throw unweighted streamers with short leader material (3-4’), and was going to rely on the different sink tips for getting the flies down. Say 10’ sink tips of T8,T12,T14, but those will weigh 80gr, 120gr, 140gr
2 options. Go to the echo website and see if they have a line charge recommendation page or go to the Rio Spey line recommendation chart and it will pacifically give you the scheduled green weights range for that rod. These are great resources. I am in total agreement with you, you do not want to get this wrong. let me know what you find out
I have seen your posts about your angle off twohanded cast / against Ed Wards I would say that your version its about all scandi Guys do, sence the 1985 - 90 isch. Göran Andersson a swedish Guy that was inwolved in LOOP TACKLE DESIGN, Sweden. Some of the first shooting heads that you could cut yourselfe to demanded river sircumstances. I did a lot of cutting and made LOOPS in both front and end of shooting head. So maybe take a look in old stuf with Göran Andersson. You will aprisiate to see his take on it Al the best from Denmark Well long story.... But I had a flyfishing shop where we had Göran Andersson many times to do 3 days costumer lessons in fly casting and especialy the underhand cast that was invented by him. But we are back in time. Have never understod the "splis splash" of skagit on the water when a cast can be done Much more efective (Cost effektiv, so to say)
Your boarding on Barney Fife and I bet if you pop yourself hard enough in the wrong place it might become permanent. So my suggestion is don’t do it , it’s not that cool . Giving it the onion is :-) thanks for the video
Since you are the sultan of Spey Let’s see a video! The importance that I brought to bear was that if you wanna know more subscribe to Swing the fly magazine. This was mostly for entertainment and that’s important to my friends who watch this stuff I put out
@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins Fair enough. Your video title was suggestive of something to me that you didn’t deliver on. That’s all. If your goal was to bait people into thinking you were going be disagreeing or departing from something Ed Ward has said, then you succeeded. But you didn’t do that. When you used someone’s name in a video title, you did so with a purpose. Congrats. People clicked because Ed Ward was mentioned. I have no time for such things as creating videos which is why I watch other people’s stuff. Anyhow, good luck with your future videos. You’re seem to know your stuff.
You had a pre conceived Idea of what a response video might mean, also though Ed didn’t say my name he did correct a statement I have made on some of my beginner videos and I chose to keep silent, give Ed the respect he deserves and acknowledge his casting and instruction and laugh at myself thereby issuing my response. Also, Ed watches some of my videos so I wanted him to see it in particular, my response is my response. Also you have planted the seed that maybe I should do a more typical response video, if I can do so with tact and respect. Thanks
@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins I think I get your drift now. Thanks for explaining. I’ll have to tune in more often. I’ve been hucking 2-handers for probably 20 years now and I’m always picking stuff up from people of varying perspectives. Anyhow, thanks
Wow, sorry you are so angry. Not an unedited scene to be had here. Your editing, dialog and total delivery is non sequential and incomplete. That you failed to notice this before posting is stupendous. Simply proof watching your video would help greatly my friend. Good luck.

As always informative and entertaining. Nice work Tim.
Thanks Andrew!
Great stuff Tim, and I really like the Barney reference.

Can you link the ed ward video?
You make spey casting look more realistic. I'm also a master of sticking hooks in my head, or my cousin's waders.
Thanks! Regards to your cousin🤣
“Give’r the Onion” needs to be on a T shirt

Good question. Is is it a custom built rod? Do you know who manufactured the rod!
Wasn’t sure if I should include the name, it is an ECHO
