I just went to your webstire - all the links are broken for the books :(
@@christianmadarasz9236 Hey ho, just checked it, seems to work again.
Lovely kata's. Could I ask about why the shuto in the shotokan version has the thumb sticking out like that? I was always taught thumb against the hand. Thank you.
i know Im randomly asking but does someone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
@Javion Cohen Instablaster =)
Excellent comparison. As a shito ryu student I thought the lady was excellent. Fascinating to see the other style’s interpretation.
Hi I am also a Shitoryu student. And I am indian
Hey I am a shotokhan student and now I am a black belt 🥋 but I really like your style and now I we’ll gone learn how to play bassi die on your style
I’m a shotokan, too. I will do the exam for black belt tomorrow. I really like your style though, I would like to learn it if I become black belt!
I am also a shito ryu karate student
I'm sorry, I do not speak German. However please allow me to say that in my opinion, this is a very good demonstration of the two schools because it allows the viewer to concentrate on just a few kata movements at a time, and this really helps to illustrate both the similarities and the differences. Many thanks.
Super
His is not a good demonstration actually a very poor one
@@dpigg1 It is not difficult to make a banal judgment, but it is a bit more complex to provide a constructive explanation.
Perhaps you can explain your factual thoughts to us in a few words?
Shitoryu bassai dai.. My first winning kata 😍
I practiced shotokan and it took me a while to learn to apreciate other styles and combat sports and learn from them. I still love shotokan as my base/core style. I think this was and excellent comparison and I personally liked the performance of you both. On top of that the girl is very beautiful. Keep the good work!!
This demonstration was actually very fascinatin. It's extremely educational when you see the differences between styles of the basically the same martial art. I enjoyed watching this.
mabuni and funakoshi prob learnt them from itosu but shotokans was changed to fit the style aesthetically.
@@666Havers Funskoshi modified the Shorin Ryu syllabus considerably to create Shotokan to make it more compatible with the Japanese culture. This was unnecessary by the time Mabuni created Shito Ryu, which is why it still closely resembles Shorin Ryu. But it also incorporates Goju Ryu as well, so you're learning a lot more than Shotokan teaches.
Shito Ryu is more quick and lashing out, while Shotokan is more raw strength and power. Both are great styles, and it is very interesting to see them side by side. Good job the the demonstrators!
Shotokan karate is best containing perfect stance ,speed, expression and with lots of power💪
Shitoryu is so refined, clean and beautiful to watch
Sensei j'adore vos vidéos. Un grand merci. Pouvez-vous envisager de faire de nouvelles vidéos de comparaisons entre styles de karaté ?
I thank you for your opinion. It is not easy to find a person willing to make such a video. In this case, it resulted from a training course. If it comes up again, gladly!
Incluso entre diferentes escuelas/organizaciones del mismo estilo, pueden haber diferencias sutiles. Sin embargo, aquí vemos que aunque la ejecución difiere en algunos aspectos, la esencia se mantiene. Felicitaciones a ambos!
This is a fantastic example. When I first started karate my Dojo teach Shito Ryu I remember this because of the unique way I learned Bassai and as my Dojo progress with time we ended up adapting Shotokan. I have never ask my Sense why we ended up doing this transition but I think it had to do with our Dojo joining the Japanese federation called JKS. Over all no regrets I love Shotokan Bassai Dai is one of my favorite kata's but looks amazing in Shito Ryu
Interesting! I'm a Shido-kan student and can see a little of our version in both, and many differences with both as well. Thank you!
Bravo! Side by side stylistic differences! Thanks.
Very interesting indeed! I was brought up in goju ryu but is converting to shotokan. The shito ryu version would of course be a lot more natural for me😁
Very interesting and valuable presentation. With an open mind, regardless of one's personal training lineage, one can see a kind of archaeology of the art. Whether one accepts differences as valid variations or even improvements on what one was taught --- or rejects them as mistaken or clearly inferior --- this comparative video invites one to consider what one does and why. The ability to make the most of this video pends the viewer's level, not style. Thank you for posting.
@goggles789 Sorry. My intent was quite opposite the way you took it. My comment was meant to compliment the video and render respect to all styles, while acknowledging that the natural inclination, at least in my case, to instinctively think that what one was taught and invested time in learning is the "true" way should not close one's eyes to the possibility of learning something new. In saying that the ability to analyze and make conclusions about the differences between the styles pends one's level, I was actually thinking that I myself, for one, might not have sufficient experience or expertise to make such judgments yet. Not sure what caused your response to my comment, but I hope this clarifies.
When I started shotokan as a teenager I was very closed minded. It took me years to open my mind and be able to enjoy and learn from other styles, and other martial arts and combat sports. And I should say it is a very rewarding experience. I still love shotokan as my base style and as the first physical excersice I ever practiced, I may own to my karate training whatever good physical condition I have nowadays. And yes tracking the original techniques and aplications of kata is also a very interesting and rewarding task, regardless of the fact that I am acustomed to perform the katas with a shotokan style. (sorry for the bad english)
This is very educational for those wishing to understand the similarities and differences in how kata are performed in different styles of Karate
i guess the guy was shotokan and the woman was shito-ryu
Yep, the Shito Ryu version is the same as the Shorin Ryu version. You see the same differences when Shotokan is performed side by side with Shorin Ryu.
dont guess its obvious
Isn't it obvious?
True. I know this kata in shito ryu.
shotokans longer stances are purely for leg strength and speed if you can move in a low stance then you can move faster in a higher easier stance once you hit black belt you start training in more natural stances kata however remains the same personaly i would have liked shotokans kata to have stayed closer to the source material
I study shotokan at the IJKA. The bassai dai we do there is a bit like a combination of both of these. For example, we use the cat stance the woman does at 0:50
Asai Ryu? any video example?
I love to compare Kata's especially "older" to "newer", or the Okinawan version to the Japan one. It's amazing to see how Kata evolve. I could imagin if you put Matsumura -, Shito -, Itosu no passai and than Bassai dai at the end, it would give an amazing shot.
Thanks for this Video, have a great time!
Excellent both well done.
Very Nice. Amazing Form, Nice & Clean. If I could just add anything I'd add a camera down so the form can be seen while your back is to us.. would like to know anyway what I'm missing if anything so I can do it correctly.. Thank You
Both have their good parts in that Shito Ryu looks very artistic Shotokan is vicious
I have studied both arts throughout my life
it is a pleasure to watch two great performances side-by-side. good idea and thanks for sharing. OSU!!
thanks :)
Excelente!!!! Muy Bien tecnica.
Lindo a diferença de estilo, muito lindo e perfeito, parabéns!!!😆👍
Both katas looked amazing. Oss!
amazing
This is my favorite Kata after Kanku Dai. Ive seen so many variations and all of them are great!
Absolutely stunning! Bravo! ... two years late as of this comment ... but still, Bravo!
Thank you for sharing this. Very elegant demonstration.
thank you :)
both of them have done a great job
Oss! Ótimo demonstração. Prova que o Karatê é único, com detalhes sutis que o diferencia na ênfase dada nos golpe de fada estilo. ❤
Excellent presentation by both.
I practice shotokan, but in my opinion bassai dai shito ryu it's very elegant.
I would love to see a comparison between the Sanchin kata of the shotokan style with the one from the Goju ryu style. I practice shotokan but I love the power of the Goju ryu´s Sanchin kata.
Shotokan does not have Sanchin in the curriculum.
I assume you mean sochin from shotokan my martial arts brother? It's a very different mate I'm afraid though. Nearest comparison I can think of would be shotokan 's hangetsu shown in contrast with goju ryu sanchin. Though only the start of the katas are similar. I remember only way I stopped my shotokan muddling up my kyokushin kata was that one was right leg forward 1st and other was left leg forward. It's good for you to learn cross styles so you don't get too bogged down in 'style'. Good luck in your future martial art quests
This was awesome. Would love more examples.
Ryan Jandu me too :)
thanks for the upload.
Grazie !! Una bellissima dimostrazione !!
Grazie! :-)
Muito legal! OSS
Very interesting experiment
Probably my favorite kata
Masterful performances.
Muy bueno ambos. Saludos desde Lima Perú.
Awesome! Shotokan still looks the best.
In my opinion shitoryu looks more fluid and smooth
Shito Ryu...hasta el fin!!. Oss!!
Ok, magníficos videos y tutoriales
I'm glad to hear that, thank you!
Thank you so much sir and mam tomorrow is my black belt examination and this kata is going to be asked
I hope you had a good exam!
I think the guy was Shito Ryu . . . her stances were deeper than what I have done in Shito Ryu . . . however, neither kata looked quite the way I learned Bassai dai . . . However, I really appreciated the side by side comparison. Good job!
The man was Shotokan.
Brett: your wrong
Wow Super ❤️❤️
Watching these two different katas, I am wondering whether the Shito-Ryu is created to the people who actually can't do the Shotokan katas. Because the stance and the techniques in shotokan seems to be difficult than the Shito-Ryu version. I understanding these are two different style, I don't know how to judge these two versions of the Katas in a same competition.
to "judge" kata is difficult even for referees, it is always subjective. This video only wants to show the paralleles and differences of those two styles: the speed and short stance of Shito ryu and the force and long stance of Shotokan.
Both styles, shito ryu and shotokan share the same origin, thats why the kata are so similar. Shotokan evolved into deeper stances, I believe this was done looking for more stability and power and also is a good tool in training the strength of the legs. Shotokan changed the cat stance (neko ashidachi) for the deeper back stance (kokutsudachi) in most kata. I personally train shotokan and I love it but I also like to research into other styles and martial arts history. (sorry for the bad english)
Ages ago I did a Korean variant (Bassa hyung) when I was practicing moo duk Kwan taekwondo. There was Japanese influences on Korean martial arts in this system.
There's sources that say that TKD isn't truely original and it derives itself from the pre-existing Japanese styles... But that's what I've been told from a life-long fellow martial artist that's studies TKD for decades......
I have practiced different martial arts and I personally enjoy reasearching about them. From what I know Taekwondo´s real origin was the shotokan karate introduced by the japanese during the Korea ocupation. However for nationalistic reason Korea (and korean´s) is not going to accept they based their art on some invaders art. Until today the relationship between Korea and Japan is not very kind. Bassa Hyung is not the only kata that is very similar, all the 5 heian katas (also named pinan katas) and the tekki kata of the shotokan style are very similar to taekwondo katas, with only some aded movements or switching punches to kicks. I have practiced both shotokan and taekwondo and thats when I first noticed this. Taekwondo has evolved in its own way and nowadays is very different from karate. (sorry for the bad english)
@@watch006 Tang Soo Do is was based on Okinawan Shorin Ryu. Shorin Ryu was the basis for Shotokan.
Sin duda shotokan
Both are excellent.
That's great to hear, thank you!
Shotokan kata is best wow❤
My self, Goju- Ryu Karate Do.
I think, i love Shito- Ryu, it's not so hard like Shotokan.
Sorry, my english is so " mad "
🙈
Interessanti gli altri stili fa venire voglia di provarli.
Shito Ryu ❤...siempre!!!
🇲🇽🤠🇺🇸 You can tell which student represents shito-Ryu just by the stances before Kate starts
1.mind & body become 1 (crossing open hands)
2. 2 first 1 first width apart ready stance.
too both well done OSS!!
Thank you!
shotokan -back stance
shito ryu-cat stance
I do shito-ryu and I love the cat stance
@@vimpex5157 I do both
its not the back stance... In shotokan its the tiger stance
Preferisco la versione shotokan 💪💪💪🙏Oss
Awesome showcase
I know this as a shotokan kata it's interesting to see a different version of it
Thank God I studied shotokan.
Hermosas ambas katas
Thank you!
It's so cool 😍
It's wierd because I do shotokan and our version of bassai dai is different. Where are cresent kick parries?
there are variations by association as well as by style
This is basically ancient NKK later turned into "modern Shotokan".Ancient is like this emphasis in a very steady stance (base) along with powerful Kime.
I assume you're referring to the mikazuki geri techniques that often precede the yamazuki strikes towards the end of the kata? These kicks weren't part of the original shotokan kata as taught by Funakoshi Sensei or by the JKA but were introduced during the karate diaspora by teachers like Enoeda and Kanazawa Senseis. Recently, there has been a trend in shotokan to return to the less showy techniques of teachers like Nakayama Sensei (possibly because so many of the leading lights in Western karate are hitting their 50s and 60s and are finding this stuff plays merry hell on the knees!). In fact, if you read Nakayama Sensei's Best Karate on Bassai Dai, he doesn't even include the hiza geri that most practitioners (including this one) use in this technique.
糸東流の女性はまだ初段ですか。良いですね。凄く良いと思います。協会の男性は流石ですね。羨ましいです。
Wow
Shotokan doesn't seem to have kihon dachi (basic/medium stance). Always seems to be in zen kutsu dachi
Power vs.speed. great technique.
yeah, finally someone got it!
I had no idea that different styles had different versions of the same kata, albeit quite similar.
I learned this kata as a red belt in tae Kwon do, slightly different.
Good demonstration.
Magnifico. Auguri. Great performance.
Grazie :)
Thanks from Texas!
Greetings back to Texas!
Really very interesting. Thank you but Shito ryu for ever !
at least pro Karate :D
Good demonstration
Thank you!
Both styles looked great, though i'd prefer the shotokan version. Bassai Dai means "to storm the castle/storm the fortress so the name implies that it has to be a powerful kata. The shito ryu version looks great but just not powerful enough to storm a castle while the shotokan version does.
I fully understand where you are coming from, strength & power looks more impressive. May I suggest you look at things at a different precpective. Shito Ryu is more stealth like - precision & agility - that's why cat stance is used more. Why storm a castle with brut force with high casualites if you can infiltrate & disable the defenses with a surgical strike & take the castle. If you look at modern warfare now, SAS & special forces do most of the fighting for this purpose. The objective is to win, not to look impressive. If you look at the UFC fight between Rose vs Wei Li. Wei Li looks the stronger & agressive fighter but Rose won with a precision stealth kick to the head. Sun Tsu - If you are strong look weak & if you are weak look strong. I'm not saying one is better than the other as there is no perfect style. Each has their weekness & strengths. Having an open mind allows you to have the prefect strategy in what ever situation comes before you. Be water my friend.🙏
Would be interesting if you had also added a Wado Ryu version to the demo
This was a demonstration within a course (Shito ryu and Shotokan). Should the opportunity arise to do the same with Wado ryu, I will gladly make a video. Thanks for your interest!
Left is Shito-ryu ?
Yes!
Maybe he is doin it old way, but nowadays some techniques in bassai are trained differently, and sometimes i can see his back foot in not so good connection with the floor, but as a demonstrantion between two styles - very good example :) but i dont know how many points would i give him at a JKA competition. :)
Beautiful!
Every ryuha has its own style. And as a pupil, he or she should be proud of it without discredit other ryuha and its style.
word!
Great performance both NKK old school and Shito-Ryu 👍
Oss..its not the style that matters..its how good you are in what you do..
The best!!!
2:24 ai VN cho hỏi bài bassai dai shito ryu là thét có một lần s cô gái trong clip lại thét 2 lần nhỉ 🤔 🤔 🤔
She’s pretty good; enjoyed her kata
Vom Ego-Abbau haben immer viele was. Alles gute fürs neue Jahr. lars
WaKi-Do Escrima Münster Der Stil vom Shotokan hat nicht viele Katas im Gegensatz zum Shito ryu
Wird schwierig viele Folgen daraus zu machen
i have learn shito ryu and after recycled me in shotokan (no choices no shito ryu in my town) but now i rather shotokan / wado ryu
Good idea to compare these two styles. Is a Kyokushinkai kata near "Bassai Day"?
from what i can tell it was originaly part of there sylabus but was removed then reintroduced so it probably depends on the club
Faltou fazer o tb junto o bassai do estilo Wado Kai
Both very very good exelent👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💪🥋👏😀
Thank you!
SHOTOKAN more better 😁👍👍
Awesome 👌
shito ryu girl did a wonderfull tournament kata. the shotokan guy did it traditionally. Left looks better, right is more power
Entrambi eccellenti esecutori; io, che appartengo alla grande famiglia shoto kan, preferisco, ovviamente, la versione impeccabile di sensei Fiore Tartaglia. Oss.
Grazie! Oss!
Merci beaucoup pour cette comparaison
The girl does shito-ryu. I can tell because I'm also shito ryu and do that same kata. Sadly I can't do it perfect as that ;w;
The lady.if isla ShitoRyu..kata.basai dai!
👍👍👍
Very interesting and well performed comparison of both styles!
Just sad to see her make a mistake at the 2nd and 3rd movement, in a video demonstration!
Performing a "Gyaku Soto Uke" followed by an "Uchi Uke", when the correct form would be "Uchi Uke" followed by "Guako Uchi Uke"
Other than than excellent performance on both
