Ella was still there 😢🐕🦺😎
RIP😭🐶
Ella!
Apparently he is just recycling previous episodes. I remember this one from a couple of years ago.
@@grahamrankin4725yep..good to see the Ella pup as well as his craftsmanship.
Yeah Ella! She was there at the beginning but not at the end 😢
FANTASTIC Tom ! What a gorgeous little table - you've given it another 100 years of life now. Thanks for sharing your skills with us - always pure joy to watch and learn. Take care 🙂
Many thanks!
Another great Thomas Johnson restoration video. Thanks for the older footage - Ella's been gone for a while now. RIP to a good dog.
Thank you! I miss her!
It was really nice to see Ella again, she is missed! and nice to see that little campain table again also. I remembered it from the first time I viewed it then and now think it is a neat little table. Thanks for sharing it was good timing , I was thinking Gee I haven't seen anything from Thomas Johnson in a while and here you are. thanks for sharing ECF.
You're welcome Ellis! I've been posting every 2 weeks!
The first Tom Johnson film I ever watched, the campaign table that you found by the roadside...and I was smitten from the very first moment....being welcomed into your world and introduced to your profession. What a life enhancing delight it has been, Tom.
Thank you! That's very nice!
Who knew such a beautiful little table was hiding there. That really was a lovely job you did there Tom, as always lovely to remember dear Ella too. 👍
Thank you so much 😀 It is good to see her
Aww . . dear Ella. She brings me to tears each time she visits from the past.
Oh yes! But I'm always happy to see her, I'm never sure at first but I'm always happy when I do.
Prior to the loving care given to this table it really looked like trash. Now it is a gem to be treasured. To see a master like Tom effect this transformation is a privilege and joy.
Thank you, that's nice!
The caterpillar to butterfly transition was wonderful!
Yes! I was so lucky to get those shots, and my editor was so smart to use them here
Thank you for another look at how it should be done. It is another reminder as to the value of patience, persistence, and skill in dealing with one of nature's products.
You're welcome! That's nice
Tom is the Clamp Champ in my book of restoration artist. He makes this profession look easy but we all know just how hard he works!
Thanks! I like "The Clamp Champ"!
You are truly a master at your craft.I am amazed at how beautiful that piece turned out.
Thank you very much!
"I think it looks pretty good" said at the end of each of your videos is always the understatement of the year in my opinion.
Thanks! Maybe...
Absolutely it is...ha@@johnsonrestoration
IT was good to see the shop supervisor again. AS usual great work.
Thanks 👍 It is good to see her
Outstanding as usual 👏👏
Thanks!
Hi Tom. I've watched your work for years and for some reason this table top is one of my favorite pieces of yours. Just phenomenal work.
Thanks 👍 It's one of my favorites too!
AMAZING TO SEE THE AMOUNT OF RESTORATION WORK THAT GOES INTO EVEN A SMALL PIECE. VERY COOL, TOM!!!
Thanks! it's true, I'm amazed too
All the coats, all the steps, all the little extra's... Thanks to your care it looks great again!
Really love the top with all the deep colors and shades.
You're welcome!
What a beautiful table brought back to life. Love the craft paper trick. You always seem to have a feel for just the right method to restore a piece of furniture but still honor it's origins.
Thanks so much! I try!
Beautiful work Tom! I find your knowledge and commentary on finishing very valuable.
Thank you!
What a lovely piece. So glad it ended up in your hands to get the treatment it deserves. Looks wonderful.
Thank you!
You are absolutely the best! Beautiful rescue!
Thank you!
Watching your videos and listening to you speak lowers my blood pressure along with the incredible learning experience. Thank you for doing what you do with such calm and confidence.
You are welcome!
Another stunning restoration. I don't think there's such a thing as a "trash" piece that you can't make beautiful again.
Thanks!
Excellent job Tom. It's always a pleasure to learn from you the correct way to restore furniture as apposed to attacking things with an orbital sander as most others do.
Definitely, Tom restores with great skill, but also with a love for each piece he is working on.
Truth. Watch and learn furniture flippers.
Thank you! Yes, people are too quick to grab the sander!
Thank you!
Thanks! I don't think that's going to happen, unfortunately
Great restoration of the coolest folding tables that I have ever seen. I didn't think there was any way you would be able to get that table top looking as good as you did. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! I wasn't sure either!
There are few things as satisfying as watching old wood's grain re-emerge from decades of dirt, wax, and damage! Today I learned about reaming screw holes to allow the wood to expand and contract... Would never have crossed my mind to do that. I love kraft paper as a finishing rub-down as well. That's something I've always done with my wood projects. I noticed the new (when this was recorded) Village PT shirt... I hope you and your wife are both well. Sweet Miss Bella was there, too. Looks like this video has been a while in the making, but we're always happy to see her again. If you go up to Fryeburg Fair, wave as you go by our place!
Thanks! We are thinking of going today! I didn't realize you were close by. Stop by sometime!
@@johnsonrestoration Thanks, I'd love that. We're in Hiram, at the Baldwin/Hiram town line on Rt 113. As you go through the ponds (people from away reading this are thinking, "through?" LOL) you'll see my little model horse shop's sign on the right as soon as you hit dry ground. Have a great time!
What a great table. I never saw one like this. Your work was tastefully applied as to not change the antiquity of this piece. Nice job.
Thank you very much!
it looked really good in your shop, but perfect in between the rocker and wing chair. I love seeing glimpses of Ella in the background.
Thanks! I do too!
You remember me so much of my good old vater… he was so skilld and so creative as you are… good bless you both…
Thank you!
Looks awesome 👏
Thank you!
So lovely. Years of pleasure for the owner.
Yes! Thanks Jean
Thank you for planting Milkweed for Monarchs!❤
You're welcome! I try to distribute the seeds around the property, with limited success
Beautiful little table and you done a great job getting it back into service Thanks Tom
You're welcome!
I've learned a lot from you, especially about finishing. Thanks! Watching you work motivates me to get down in my own shop.
That's great! Get to work!
You make me smile, "I think it looks pretty good", it looks amazing, as does all your work. While I always enjoy your nature shots at the beginning and end off your videos I particularly liked the one of the caterpillar industrially chewing away on the leaf, so cute.
Thanks! Yes, that is a good video! You can see so much more detail than when you're seeing it out in the garden
Beautiful work, i love old furniture, because it was made to last. R.I.P ELLA.😢.
Thanks! It was, but not so our dear pets and loved ones!
It’s metamorphosed into a beautiful butterfly!😍😍
It did! I love that my editor did that
I love the 4x4’s covered with packing tape. I am going to have to use that trick for myself
It works! As much as I hate using plastic that packing tape does come in handy! And of course that tape on those boards lasts for a very long time
Another beautiful piece. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Lovely little table. You made it look special
Thank you Judith!
I'm only 10 seconds into the video and I have to comment how much I love it! the munchy caterpillar is very fun, and he must have come to your house after he finished everything in my garden 🐛🦋
Yes, either him or his twin brother! Thanks!
What a master class. Great result.👍🏻👌🏻
Thank you!
Totally charming table. It looks great. I love the proportions of the table. It probably looks it’s very best !❤
Thanks!
Beautiful peirce!! Awesome restore Tom!!
Thanks!
Mr. Johnson, what a gorgeous table. I've never seen one that comes apart for moving! As always a fantastic job! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us! Stunning restoration! 😊
You are very welcome!
That top looks great, another fine piece of work.
Thank you!
client must be thrilled; brown paper rub at finish - perfect touch
Thanks! The clients are very happy! (This table is ours - it's now in our kitchen)
Caterpillar to butterfly, somewhat like the table transformation, plain to beautiful! 💕
Yes! Thanks!
Beautiful work, Tom
Thank you so much 😀
A gem. thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!

Danke Christel! Ja, und ich hoffe, du hattest auch ein schönes Wochenende
Beautiful table, and your skills took it right back to 1889.
Thanks Bill!
Beautiful Tom!
Many thanks!
That table went from a falling-apart caterpillar to a beautifully refinished butterfly.
Thanks! I like that! Wasn't that the wildlife scenes in the beginning and end?
Beautiful table! Good to see you again.
Thank you! 😊
Thanks for sharing, brilliant finish
Thanks for watching!
The patent is likely US patent 368,055. Granted to John T. Bon of Syracuse, NY, for a folding table. The patent drawing and specification are available online.
Thanks! I forgot to include that in the video! I have a copy attached on the bottom of the top
Boy! You brought that table back from the dead! It looks wonderful now.
Thank you!
Hey Tom
Beautiful outcome😊
Take care
Thanks Tim!

That is an awesome result
Thank you!
You do such great work. My dad did a lot of restoration and build from scratch projects when I was younger. This is something that I have always been impressed by.
That's great! Thanks
It is beautiful again and you did a masterful job restoring it also!!
I enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thank you very much!
Very very nice! Looks really good now.

Thank you for sharing your work. Terrific job!
You're very welcome!
Another awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love watching your videos, so relaxing and so informative!
Glad you like them! Thanks!
That worked out well. People today would surprised how many officers had those tables. Not only officers but reporters as well if they could pack them. Then they were used as well on safari. That would have been the type for not a poor or weathy officer. Poor officers had plain utilitarian styles where as the rich had more ornate usually. Reporter Richard Harding Davis said he could make do with his saddle bags but prefered for long campaigns he preferred a wagon with campaign furniture. I have early 20th century table that the top was used for a plant stand and it is like yours. I might have bought it for a song but it is like Mahler's 3rd symphony to get to the end.
Thanks! I wonder if there is a book on campaign furniture. I'll have to search...yes, there is a book called "Chestnut and Pine", I may get that
Beautiful piece, hope you are doing well. Thanks for sharing ❤
You're welcome! We are - and I hope the same for you!
Very interesting table. Very stylish. Great job..
Thanks Olga!
Gorgeous work as always.
Thank you very much!
wonderful job Tom. Your skills came thriugh on this project.
Thank you!
Another work of art, or should I say Tom. ❤
Thanks, that's nice
When you think about it, Campaign Furniture is really pretty cool. Great work bringing it back to life. You said you used tung oil "varnish". Is it a blend or just straight tung oil. I've also found tung oil takes some time to dry properly.
Thanks! Yes, Waterlox is a varnish with tung oil resin, and yes, it takes a while to dry! But that's why it flows out so beautifully
Bravo….as always Tom.
Thank you!
Very nice presentation. I'd have liked a little discussion of that central vertical wooden hinge that allows the legs to fold flat. It appears that it has withstood the rigors of time quite well, which suggests that the table was not put up and taken down too many times. (I always imagine campaign tables as having been used by Civil War officers to view maps of the terrain over which war is being waged. This one would have, at best, seen limited action during maybe the Spanish-American fracas? Or perhaps it was able to avoid military service altogether.)
Thanks! I agree - we cal it a "campaign table" A wooden hinge like that doesn't have any real stress on it and doesn't show signs of wear
A lovely little table! Really nice work!
Thanks!
Felicitaciones Thomas! La mesa quedó hermosa! Tus trabajos son sumamente instructivos! Gracias por compartir tantas enseñanzas! Un abrazo!
Germán, desde Lomas de Solymar, Uruguay.
¡Eres muy bienvenido! Y ¡Hola de nuevo a Uruguay!
Beautiful job Tom. Your restoration's are absolutely stunning.
Thank you!
Campaign furniture was made in bulk, fast ,with brass hardware. British design available to officers from a large book. Burma, boer wars mostly. Interesting furniture. Christopher shwartz even has a book via lost arts press I believe. Funnily enough a bunch of this hardware is still available new.
Thanks! I will look for that book! I follow Lost Art Press
What a lovely piece! Beautiful restoration!
Thank you!
I really like that piece. Wish it was mine. Nice job as usual.
Thanks! We love it too!
I love that table. You did a hell of a job on that top. It’s beautiful.
Thank you!
Thanks Tom
You're welcome!
Very nice! You certainly have great patience in doing a most excellent job! I wished I lived closer as I have a couple of tables that were my parents that need refinishing and veneer work. They were new when my dad built our new home in 1954. I have them now and love the style. I remember having to dust them when as part of my chores!
That's great! Those memories are priceless
Hi Tom, an interesting table, with unusual hardware, and a great restoration, many thanks, hope you're keeping well, see you on the next one, take care out there!
Thanks!
