    Time has a different meaning to geologists. When they say 'recent' they often mean 'since the last Ice Age'. So when they say 'soon' they could mean anything from 'next week' to 'this century'! And like all scientists, they are hard to pin down because they know how much isn't known.
    Beautiful photography again. I especially like the waves on the shore from the drone.

    Last year's Mauna Loa eruption here in Hawaii came on suddenly. While there had been earthquake swarms for years they had just waned a bit and then boom, we had an eruption. Great info and drone footage in your video. Maybe some year I'll make it to Iceland for an eruption.

      "incredibly organized"is the only way to do things :) however, I lost track after last summer, overflow, especially after the eruption, so I'm still sorting and pre-editing since that's where I often get my ideas, and it makes it easier to edit my updates, to know my own film stock is of high importance :)

    People are fascinated by volcanos for good reason. I live in SE Alaska, about five miles from a volcano that just recently was upgraded to active from being dormant several centuries. I am not moving and making only minimal mental plans on what to do if it decides to give us a show. My problem is my nearly flat roof which would not withstand a lot of heavy ash. Not sure what I can do about that. It is easy to get onto the roof to shovel, but I am aware that it probably would not be safe to try shoveling while ash is still falling. There is no place to drive to get away, and planes for sure would not be flying with ash in the air. So, we watch and wait. My youngest son and his wife will be building a home this spring, so that kind of sums up how we feel about staying here.
    Love your videos and comments on the activities there in Iceland.

    Thanks for update. I suggested to you the Dutchsince YT channel. Hope you had time to check it out as it could add to your knowledge. He gave info on Turkey/Syria EQ's - the 7.s. He brought out that the shaking reached as far as Scotland - so, not far from you in Iceland. I checked and the effect was confirmed. It did indeed cause rumblings as far away as Scotland. He is predicting from seismic activity web data that there could come further EQs for the Turkey area again (X2) and depending on which way the energy releases it could release up further into Europe. So, the changes you are reporting may be coming from the EQs Turkey is experiencing.

      Iceland has the largest - by far - glacier area in Europe, Vatnajokul, and several others really big ones. Sailing in from the southeast, as the first settlers did, Vatnajokul is very prominent, and on the shore there, between it and the ocean, is where the first Icelander is said to have set up his homestead. So "Ice - land" seems a very apt name. Remember, there were no shopping malls back then to focuse your attention and purchasing power on.. 😁

    Are there any sedimentary rocks in Iceland at all?

    Question regarding the bridge between continents that I’ve been mulling over for years: Was it designed to be flexible enough to self-adjust over time as the chasm slowly widens? Obviously, Icelandic engineers are quite clever … but do you know the mechanics and physics behind it? If so, would you consider posting a video about it?

    • @JustIcelandic
      @JustIcelandic Рік тому +5

      This is a good question! I read it somewhere that the bridge is in fact adjusting a bit since it was placed there, but I will need to dive a bit into this to make sure I get the facts straight, and yes I will add this to my list of topics, it's a good idea, so many thanks :)

    Are those power stations geo-thermal ? If so, I assume they might monitor temperature and pressures of the inlets. Would they be able to detect rises in sch things? Might give an indication if the magma is coming nearer the surface. Just a random thought.

    • @JustIcelandic
      @JustIcelandic Рік тому +1

      Yes they are geothermal and yes, changes can be detected, like it's more output in the Svartsengi power plant now, the one by the Blue Lagoon and Grindavík

    Do the quakes and activity overlap with the same time period of every previous year and the year before etc, maybe last 5 or 10 years if you can see this far back on that program.
    Scientist in iceland recently buried some fiber optic cables around a volcano to test activity for the volcano that lives underneath a glacier. The test was very good and fiber optic cable seems very sensitive and much better than scientist expected. And i don’t know how it works or if its difficult to make yourself, but maybe you can do this in small scale if you want to know the activity around you.

    knowing that volcanoes can erupt at anytime and people keep living near them even tho the earth is shaking and smoke are rising from them.. well i hope no one dies but if you live near a active volcano then you should know it can erupt without warning... anyways i will love to travel to iceland someday. it really looks to be an amazingly beautifull landscape and history.. i love looking at google earth. i use it to look at the earth soil to see if there is signs viking settlements.. i can feel my danish ancestors is watching over me. how i dont know.. im not religios, i believe in humans and not what i cannot see or talk to.
