I have a meeting this morning for initial discussions on what our future space needs are for esports at UIdaho. Appreciate UTD doing this video, it was the rally cry I was looking for heading into the meeting. We're getting a significant spike in recruiting and retention through esports and want to better serve that sector of our students.
I wish this building was used for something Educational instead of just for games. Something that could boost the engineering department or something I feel like it's a waste of money.
@accession3d the problem is that America tends to prioritize sports over general and specialized education. That is the whole point of what I was saying in my previous comment. That should be common sense to anyone obviously not to you. I was not seeing the worst in something I was stating a fact of how, since utd claims to be education oriented, video games isn't something that is strictly educational as compared to engineering, medicine or science that benefits our society.
@ agreed. But competitive e-sports is not just gaming but a new emerging field and it instills leadership, discipline, critical thinking as well as analytical thinking. As for education, there are already lots of buildings for studies, research within UTD. Plus the quality of UT Education system is pretty great. So I don’t see any problems here
@@accession3d I had stated the problem in my previous comment. What I mean by is that if you compare america to other countries, america has a reputation of spending millions of dollars supporting sports related things. I am not saying the UTd isn't a great university. I go there. I am an engineering student, and it is one of the best schools in the area. But the problem is that you can never have enough education. There's always room for growth, and that money could have been spent on something that further supports our research on campus and our education to further better our society. I don't have a problem with sports. It is good for leisure purposes. And I am aware that it does create careers for people to go into, and they can make lots of money on it. That's always a good thing. I just feel like having a two story building with over 105 PCs dedicated to video games is not the best decision that they could have made when it comes to investing hundreds of millions of dollars for the campus, that's all I was saying, I hope you can understand that. If video games is something that is a deep interest to you, then I am an outsider looking in, because that isn't something that is of total interest to me, considering how my focus is in engineering and innovation. I still hope you can understand this.

it isn't. E-sports is an emerging field with interesting pay. No need to be pessimistic
