We’ve adapted one of our vicon wagtails to have a smaller spread for road gritting
Richard, the litter problem is the exact same here in rural Ireland.
Scum exist everywhere
Same in islands of Scotland, but I have spoken to French, Spanish and a couple German holidaymakers and they were amazed how clean and tidy the countryside was compared to many areas in their countries. And I was shocked to hear how clean they thought the place was
You might be surprised if get some warm days when the soil warms up and still get more grass come up.
Keep the faith my dear. You took a gamble and i think you did what you thought was the best. It's hard work being a Farmer and i think you do great. xxxxxxx
you have a really super farm your buildings are awesome
If you graze it bare and let the new seeds see the light , it will give them a better chance. I wouldn't let it up for silage first time.
Bad upbringing the people who cant take their rubbish home with them, I was brought up to take my rubbish home with me so the end of the day one cleared out the toffee papers from ones pockets, it is so natural unless you come across a rubbish bin for legitimate place to deposit it.
We now have an irresponsible general public. We could have avoided lock down with a responsible population.
You could always flog the Vicon to Farmer p 😁. As for mower's I've heard it all before 🙄 especially people telling my neighbour "why don't you use a contractor to do all these things?" Simple contractor's don't like smaller farms because the pay cheque is too small for them.
That attitude is understandable but not the way to do things thank god there aren't many like that round here
Good Moring The Funky Farmer
Great video yet again. Looking forward to seeing your new spreader
Can't believe how much rubbish people throw away on the floor!!! It's not difficult to take home your rubbish. Obviously can't be bothered. Another great video Richard. Xxxx
I personally wouldn't buy a new spreader you don't use it enough I'd look for for a good 2nd hand one plus what about ploughing the grass up having a crop of maize then reseed
I am really enjoying watching
Give it time the seed wll grow. Top team back again
Hi funky farm i think with the grass you need to wait for fine weather it is to cold yet for seeds to strike
I think you could have skipped the rolling as the rain would have washed the seed in and settled it into the slots.
Looking at the soil the roller has capped the soil and sealed the top layer hence your not getting the germination.
Can you not get a demo mower in for first and second cuts richard, couple of different brands to try before you buy
Or another idea see if farmer p wants to go halves on one
Not really feasible as with a fertiliser spreader you want to be going as soon as the weather is right and not waiting on someone else or negotiating with them on when they will finish with it.
A good second hand spreader will see Richard right and he can put the vicon into a sale.
@Paul F I work for a couple of farms that share kit you've got to have a really good relationship with each other for ìt to work but it's a good way of spreading the cost.
They still make the vicon spreaders so maybe 😅
People sit in the McDonalds carpark, eating the stuff they bought via the drive thru, then chuck it out the window when they pull out of the retail park here. McDonalds has bins everywhere that have huge openings that allow you to throw rubbish into from your vehicle but people would rather wait till they get 200 years down the road.
Just add some grass seed in with fertiliser
Put up a motion activated Camera and a sign saying littering prohibited 🚫. Maybe the camera catches a license plate of a car and you can file a report !
can you and farmer p go half on the spreader both use it
Lucky it's only empty cans & wrappers, no joy when you turn up and find a discarded fridge in your gateway !
as we say in suffolk . dont be a tosser take your litter home .great vid mate
Good bit of sun that grass will sprout….
Top bit of video bombing in my van!
And it was maybe also a little to cold
😄😄
The price you get for your milk is going down but the price of milk in the supermarket is not going down so who's making the profit it's not the person's doing all the real work the farmer that's for sure
Sounds like time for Olly Blogs to step in and set the Real Country File Team loose on the subject. He’s certainly had a result with egg prices.
The supermarket CEOs are lining their pockets
@@fanfeck2844 yeah you are NOT wrong their ripping us all off farmers and consumers alike.
You should sign it then eBay it off
People should be taking the cans home and recycling them, and binning the wrappers. Too much laziness and lack of respect for others these days, sadly.
👀🙄🐾👍
Second again😆
Got 7 glass jars here not using if you break anymore. Honiton Devon. Crack on { No pun intented ! )
The new grass will grow, have patience and crack on mate.
Richard, we’ve done exactly the same you with the re seeding, always a gamble, and we keep doing it too, in my eyes you did what you thought was the right thing to do as we all do.
Don’t give up on your seeds, I’m sure they are there and just need a little more time.
The seed will definitely be there but struggling to break through the top pan caused by overcompaction from rolling when the ground was too wet.
The main purpose of the rolling if the ground is fit is to close the slots and ensure good seed to soil contact, the prolonged heavy rain alone would have sorted this.
Why don't u trade in your old spreader for the new one?
I think you'll be surprised how much new grass will come when the soil warms up. Grass seed is pretty resilient and will lay dormant for a bit.
Would it help to spin on some mixed clover seed. I love a clover rich pasture. At least the ali cans are of value. Picking up the used rubber thing is the worst.
I will have to admit every comment I read from you Wendy, you sound more like my neighbour 😳 she's is into this kind of knowledge as well as animal health welfare, I'm starting to think you two are related. ?!?!
@@calumanderson5617 I really would like to meet a kindred spirit, I am guessing from your name you are in Scotland, although I am, as far as I know a mongrel of British heritage, but with no mention of Scottish ancestry.
@@wendyrowland7787 You are indeed correct madam for where I am 👏... .. my neighbour who is just live's a few fields away is Welsh/Swedish (believe it or not) I can't quite remember which forum she's in but it's a Shepherdess one (you might know her??) and her husband (a Professor) works in one of the well known University's, both farm orientated.thank goodness.
I recon that field will be ok in a months time, there’s new growth starting to come through and you’ve put fertiliser over it now so a bit of sun and rain should do the trick.. crack on !!!!!
You look well for 55 farming is tough it wore my hips by 60 your boys are great so different my list of mistakes is massive just be yourself xx
It's never easy when you have to let your happy dog go. I hope your new spreader serves you as well as this one has.
With the £££ cost of fert now, a new machine thats more controllable makes sense on all levels to me. 🙂
The quality of the steel used by vicon must have been pretty good back in the if it survived 40yrs of fertilizer. Even if you wash it down everytime. We have a vicon too, the smaller (older?) model, also still in decent shape and with 4tons of fertilizer a year good enough.
A return deposit on bottles and cans would solve 50% of littering straight away, No brainer wake up government.
The litter situation in the country is disgusting beyond words. We have the mentally of "it's not my problem" or "it's not my job" . This is why I can't wait to move to Japan they have more respect for their surroundings.
A lot of asian countries seem to have more respect for most things whatever it is that does that, upbringing probably plays a part though
I’ve done quite a bit if this and found that you have to use a very vigorous rye grass that only lasts for a few years, but it grows like crazy
Two weeks after I do it I have three inches of grass in lines, you need warm weather and the field needs to be grazed hard before you do it.
Happy Easter to you all! Might still have time to reseed that empty ground. It's still early. Good luck with the fert dispenser shopping. I hope you get a good one. I totally understand your spending issues and plans. Makes sense to me.
Get a cut of grass off the seeds they will thicken out then🚜
It’s disgusting the way people still litter today. Absolutely no excuse whatsoever. Great vlog. So unfair how your milk price keeps coming down. Every best wish.
A lot of that rubbish might have flown out the back of the dustbin lorries. I've seen it a lot recently so 😢
I fear for the future of farming in this country especially for the smaller family farms.......smaller farms can't do things on a large scale so when the price of things drop your income won't be enough to survive.. I'm looking into this countryside stewardship thing but whether that's going to save us or not i'm not sure
Just a thought. Could you let that filed and grass go to seed and cut it for hay? I know that's how the old times keeped up with grass lays.
Richard the new grass will grow when the soil warms up and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Vending machine on the farm for fresh milk! Seeing a lot of it locally! Second hand 2.4m disc mower, 4 rotor Tedder. EBay! Good value kit out there currently. 👌
Great video Richard, that seed will come through when it warms up more. Should of put the spreader on the 265 for its last load, two classics together. Where you put slurry out lagoon do you not save on fert on there as the slurry would replace some of the artificial? Happy easter to you Sam harry and Jack.
Hi Richard, for your bit of spreading you do might be worth looking at a new Vicon Wagtail with a Hydraulic on and off then you can operate it from the cab. Bit of "Better The Devil You Know" 😂
Craic On 👍
yes that wgat i was thinking. Hydraulic open and shut would make life easier
Grass is a fairly resilient plant, give it time, even what you think is dead from last summer may partially come back. What it needs is for the soil to warm up, patience is the key word.
I think i would sow a few more grass seeds over the worst patches in the field with your fertiliser spreader then just run the chain harrows over the patches you sowed and just leave at that........April is a better month for grass seeding than march in my opinion you need the soil to warm up a bit for seeds to germinate
Put up some cameras for litter bugs turn video over to police, call first to see if they will even do anything if you film the pigs throwing trash out of their mamas car.
why don't you start a farm store along with your dairy, the investment might be high but it could be another source of income
Stick it into Maze ,
Don’t know what you seeded.
Warm grass ?
Cool grass ?
Your rushing it
Frost seeding is good way to go but when I did it.
It only matured for one cutting in late summer, early fall
Next spring will be even later, it’s always a gamble. It’s a chance that you have to take but if it wasn’t for you and your cows and your farm of that no milk on my table, I always buy the British red tractor logo
Put lots of cow poop in large amounts to help the rocky soil.massive 💩 poop.👍😂😂😂😘
It's lose your jumper season. Wake up put one on, take it off in the tractor, leave it there and repeat until you wonder why you can't find any jumpers one morning
Hope the grass starts growing soon. Some warm days will help.
some people are rude and have no respect
You do what you my dear and don't listen to the annoying zzzzzs. xxxx
Great video , richard don’t understand why people have the audacity to throw rubbish
Milk In the supermarket is going up it not fare
Thanks Richard. Have a nice Easter Sunday.
Doesn't anyone have a trash basket in their car anymore? That was a lot for a small area.
They dont make things as they used to quality wise, so i doubt the new one will last as long.
Ken in now on greatest hits radio
Tom Pembertons may have some spare jars….
Theirs nothing more annoying then an inspection
Can you not fit a scraper to the rear of the roller?
A gift of a fert spreader for Farmer P? 🤔😂
You get a mower on demo when you need it
It’s still cold waite
Sell it to farmer p
First again
I realise this is an old video but if you’re going to buy new equipment get rid of the old crap I know you’ve got a lot of old stuff and it’s probably got sentimental value get rid of it people that buy it and it’s just cluttering up the farm
Don't worry this ones going soon
Grass seeds a bugger to get right to be fair I think you did it right and there some there don't forget it takes time to get going 4 weeks then it will grow fast
Your doing a cracking job keeping your farm going just keep doing what your doing
Happy Easter to you and family take care stay safe cheers 👍👍
What do they use now instead of those jars. I did all my milking using them. But I stopped milking early eighties. If you had a cow on antibiotics you could hold the milk in the jar and then remove it from the jar afterwards. So it didn't go into the tank. How would they do that now if they don't use jars.
milk them out last and throw the milk away or give to calves
@@geraldbeard856 That's a pain. You have to keep any treated cows out of the parlour until the end. That would have been hard to do on any set up I worked. And once in the parlour only way out was through the stall.
@@davetaylor4741 Yes it's a pain alright........you have to be extremely careful about antibiotics these days there testing equipment is so sensitive they can detect a small amount of antibiotics......you need to wash out with hot water and detergent after milking treated cows to make sure not to leave any traces of antibiotics in the system but some modern parlours do have a seperate dump line that is independent from the main milk line..milking cows is not something you would be wanting to do if you were suffering from a hangover from a couple of cherry's the night before......the milk buyers go mental these days if they find antibiotics in the milk....... they will make you pay for the whole tanker load (or rather your insurance would have to pay for it)
When yer young ya want to be older and when yer older ya want to be young again the older we get the quicker time will go the important thing is to enjoy each day and spend as much time as we can with our loved ones harry I remember being your age saying exactly the same thing now when I look back it just seems like yesterday in just the blink of an eye you will be on the road with the machinery being the main driver around the farm hehe follow your heart I could guess we might see an old school ford sitting in your yard some day I know you like the fords save save save and if you keep thinking about something long enough it will eventually happen! Anyway thank you for your videos and sharing your life with us I wish the funky farmer family all the best for the future peace love and good health to you all from

Come on Rich - Tell us all about the Lagoon. You could make it a 3 parter and make a significant contribution to the kit you really need.
I am open mouthed at all the rubbish you picked up. It's beyond belief just how selfish, lazy and disrespectful people are.
If your fences are secure enough get some sheep on. They'll do your grass a world of good. Plus you'll make a little income from the grazing.
Give the seed time Richard, let nature take its course, it’s still only the beginning of April.
Too early to assess it properly yet. I think a lot of seed will struggle because they'll be capped by the rolling followed by rain. Wait another three or four weeks
Kubota make a good fert spreader
harry makes me laugh his conversations are epic theres no flys on this kid
You should try and come up with a deal for Farmer P to have your old fert spreader!
Early yet grass will come with the sun be patient it will be ok😊
New parlour next yr then ?😂😂😂
Tom Pemberton might have some jars
