El Pombero: South America's Surprisingly Likely Bigfoot-Cousin

  • This video is about the Pombero. South America's diminutive bigfoot-cousin. The legend of the Pombero goes back to at least 500 years, which is as far as we have the potential to know. Even still, people in the south-central region of South America take the matter surprisingly seriously...
In this video, I discuss how the local perception of the Pombero is percisely what we should expect, were the creature a flesh and blood animal, and then, I'll discuss whether or not our knowledge of fossil primates supports or refutes it's existence. I'll also go over some footage, but don't get too excited about that...

Bob, check out what Jane Goodall been saying about Bigfoot. She was on an outreach program in the remote rainforest of Ecuador. It took her 2 hours of flying over dense forest to get there. When there she coyly asked if they have ever seen a monkey with no tail. Three independent hunters with no concept of Bigfoot, told her they did encounter a hairy upright walking monkey with no tail that was about 6 feet tall.
She said there's something there to this and she would love the chance to explore it if given the opportunity. Jane Goodall as you know was ridicule by the scientific established for naming the chimps in her observations instead of numbering, as well as daring to a scribe them attributes once considered only human such as emoting.

Heh, there's one thing I've learned about the difference between ranchers and people who merely talk about raising animals. Even things as dumb as cows and sheep have personalities. People who are around them daily know this. "emoting"? that's just expressing what tiny furry thoughts they have. Even insects can do that one some weird feeble level.

There has to be a quite specific sequence of events in a specific environment for fossils to be formed. There is absolutely the potential for anything biological, be it animal or plant, to be fossilised though. a lot of animals that die are generally dead because they were killed and eaten so there is not much left. An animal that dies of disease, injury or old age is often scavenged and has it's body parts spread about, again leaving little of note to be preserved. The likely hood of finding a complete skeleton or fossil of some obscure unrecognised or documented creature is probably zero.
There are literally millions of people that have seen and photographed bears, but how many people have found a complete skeleton in the wild?

HI, I live in Patagonia nowadays, but my parents were from the northeastern part of argentina, needless to say, I spent alot of my childhood over there, so I want to put a few things:
-Pombero is also well known for kidnapping kids, some of which are never seen again, but the ones that came back, usually speak of how to pombero took care of em, taking em to the tree tops, and bringing em food.
-It is also known like the lord of the birds, it can mimic some birds, and usually when it is around, birds stay quiet. That usually how you know is a pombero making the call, its a single bird chant in the middle of a silent forest. (which is peculiar, due to how noisy subtropical forests are).
-Just like the dogman, in that specific zone, theres also a cryptid called el lobizon which some people say is a werewolf, but Ive seen one, and its a pretty big canid which can stand on its hind legs, and the reflection of a flashlight on its eyes make em look bright red. (My cousins have been trying for years to convince me it was an aguara guazu, but im still doubtful).
-In the northwestern part of Argentina theres also a bigfoot like cryptid, called ucumar, which may or maynot, be a regional name for the pombero specie... but their behaviors are different.
-In almost all Chile, and in Patagonia, we have high mountains forests, just like the ones you would find on Canada, or the american northpacific, yet, we dont have nor we ever had a bigfoot like cryptid on these regions, which is something I really like to think when people say that bigfoot like creatures are just the product of your imagination, or something like pareidolia.

If you haven't heard about it, I suggest a rabbit hole deep dive and an open mind, because there are good reasons why we don't have more evidence yet, and it's very much the same about collecting ufo evidence until we had FLIR technology and thermal locking with high zoom cameras. This makes a lot of sense when you think about the misunderstandings about the attributes we ascribe to humans about whom we know much more. Ancient Egyptians, for example. Think about how we, today, can't imagine those "primitive" people being able to construct monuments like the pyramids, etc. with the tools and methods they possessed. Modern consensus seems to always presume that we are somehow smarter, and more advanced, than people were in the past. For all we know, there may have been prehistoric Einsteins, Copernicuses, Galileos whose brilliance was lost to history because the life of the last person to hold their story was tragically cut short before they could pass the knowledge on to the next generation of record keepers. Or was in a language that was simply swallowed up in the mists of time, or would be as indecipherable as Minoan Linear A. We tend to underestimate everything from the past, is what I'm goin' for here. Lol.

    • @gizmonomono
      @gizmonomono 2 роки тому +2

What do you mean we can't imagine how they did it? The accepted theory is that Egyptians did build the pyramids with copper chisels. And it's a wrong one. They aren't understimated by mainstream archeologists, they are overestimated. If you do the math, it doesn't make any sense. They say the great pyramid was built in 20 years. If that were the case, it would mean they had to quarry, chizzle, and put into place one stone every 2 minutes. Yet, that's how archeologists claim it was done. Speaking of Kheops pyramid alone.
Egyptian history spans many pre dynastic and dynastic eras for over 4500 years, and it's not short, but it is well documented. According to academia. But, they describe themselfves as a legacy civilisation. Records of rulers go back 30000 years, but archeologists today say every name before 4500 years is just a deity. I call bullshit on that, but okay.
And let's not forget the fact that the oldest pyramids are the most impressive. And since then, they degrade in quality. Because, of course, that's how progress works, right? 😂
So, no ancient Egyptians were not understimated, they were overestimated. It was either done by an older civilization, or the Egyptians possesed more advanced tools than historians give them credit. They were smart. But smart or not, you cannot chizzel a perfect diorite vase with copper. It would be like shapeing wood with a feather. And over 40000 such vases were uncovered in one place alone.
Do you know where the story of Atlantis comes from? Platos predecessor heard it from an Egyptian priest, who said it took place 12000 years ago. Real or not, they kept the story alive for that long. It wasn't forgotten or lost. People just don't belive in it now a days, because it's not simple enough. I could go on all day about this 😂

Bob, do you think you might be interested in looking into the Almasty? It’s believed to live in southern Russia, the Caucasus, Mongolia and maybe Central Asia. It’s also known as the Almas, Abanu, Abnawuyu, the Russian Yeti or Russian Bigfoot, but there’s an important difference: it is said to have a more human face and be capable of using fire and tools. There’s a whole organisation of old men in Russia who are obsessed with the creature and researching it. Some people even claim it’s a relict population of Neanderthal or a similar species. A very famous case is said to have happened in Abkhazia in the late 19th century when a woman named Zana was captured near a village called Tkhina in the 1870s. She was believed to have been living in the wild all her life and stories describe her as being completely covered in hair, having no language, refusing to wear clothes or eat cooked food, getting upset when touched or offered these things, and being strong enough and fast enough to swim through a river and outrun a horse. Zana never learned to speak, but she could understand her own name and could follow commands and respond when called. She ended up having children from different men, and after the first babies died after she bathed them in the cold river, the village women took away the rest of Zana’s children when they were born and raised them themselves. All of Zana’s children were said to look like normal people, but her son Khwit was said to have a hot temper and unusually great strength. Zana herself died in 1890 and her descendants actually still live in Abkhazia today. One of the men researching the story, Igor Burtsev, actually found Khwit’s remains and DNA tests revealed that Zana was 100% human and of sub-Saharan African descent, but some claim that either she was from an unknown uncontacted tribe or that she or her ancestors were brought to Abkhazia as slaves by the Ottoman Empire.
Honestly, I’ve been also interested in stories of feral children and feral people, and I can’t believe no one else has ever considered this that I know of, but I think it’s very possible that maybe Zana was a feral person. She might have been autistic or disabled and was abandoned because of it, but she was fortunate enough to be able to survive alone in the wild. A lot of traits of autistic people and “feral” people or extremely neglected or traumatised people can overlap. The getting violent or frightened when touched, the refusing to wear clothes, refusing to eat cooked food in autistic people would be based in sensory issues and insistence on sameness and in “feral” people it would be based in simply having no experience with those things and therefore being afraid or distrustful of them. You see a lot of those traits described in stories of feral children. Zana never learned to speak because of the duration of her isolation, and she was already an adult when found and, according to the critical period hypothesis, if you don’t learn a first language before a certain age, you’ll never be able to fully learn a language. You might learn words, if any, but you won’t be able to learn correct syntax or grammar. Some feral children have successfully learned to speak fluently (although some fare better with sign language) and gotten over most of their “feral” behaviors, but it’s rare for either to happen with them. If you look at stories like the case of Victor of Aveyron, you’ll find the exact same patterns of behaviour and traits, and he himself was likely abandoned during early childhood because of already showing traits of autism or some other developmental disability. The claims about Zana having hair all over her body might be due to hypertrichosis or something like that, but other than that, the claims that she could swim through a river and outrun a horse were likely fabricated or at least exaggerated to make her seem even more inhuman. The Russian researchers, especially Burtsev, are very insistent that Zana was an Almasty, but let people believe what they want. It’s an interesting story either way.

"Duendes" or Goblin-like creatures are definitly something in central and south-america. In every family there's always somebody, who have seen, been kidnapped,or AT LEAST heard a story about such creature. My grandma(RIP) and her sister were kidnapped by them when they were very very young. As "evidence" of their experience, she always kept one of his muddy shoe, because she lost the other when they realized the creatures had bad intentions and started running away. I live near a place called "Las Nubes" in Costa Rica, where people says Witches and Goblins wander freely. Ironically there are restaurants with Goblin theme's and all. Im pretty sure they are real.
In North-America they have pukwudgies. In Eastern-Asia they have Ebu-Gogos and Orang-Pendeks. In Europe they have Leprechauns and little elves. In think they are all over the world.

Ah, but if these various creatures, maybe several species of them are inter dimensional it would make sense.
They exploit any "thin" places in reality to gather food, Mates, slaves, or just as a place to get away from their own predators. While these entities live in our forests, it may be more like they go camping and hunting on our plane of reality, but then withdraw back across an invisible (to us) barrier, so we don't find their real home forests and swamps.
Conversely, sometimes we accidently cross this invisible line, and get lost, maybe forever, on their side. Read some of David Paulides' books or watch some of his 411 cases. You will be shocked at how well such an idea fits both the "part time presence of these others, and the disappearance of so many thousands of humans.
Just a thought at this point, but one that seems to make a lot of sense. Time will tell.

He’s so busy, I find myself wishing he would do so too, but it’s not really fair of us to be selfish like that with someone else’s time. I know he puts out videos as often as he can manage. He doesn’t just put out content for the sake of putting out content like so many other UA-camrs do… you know the type. The ones who become stale in like 2 months and who wear out the same topics every single time one crosses their path. That’s just not Bob’s style. He prefers to out out high quality over high quantity. And I, for one, appreciate that commitment to quality.

Well one trait about humans is arrogance; we tend to believe we have answered all the questions and know everything! There has to be a definitive answer RIGHT NOW! This was absolutely fascinating and I will be replaying this multiple times.

What is your educational background "Bob"? You may very well have the most interesting channel on YT. The number of subs will catch up with the quality of content soon

I believe he's taken biology, worked with in chimps or gorillas in some capacity....maybe research....or a zoo.
Plus he's what is called an autodidact. A self teacher and good one. At the center of every man made catastrophe or natural catastrophe made worse...there was a group a experts.

Amazing video Bob! You should get to know the "Mapinguari", a somehow like Bigfoot creature from the Brazilian folklore, who is said to live in the Amazon rainforest.

Descriptions sound more like the giant ground sloth, which only apparently went extinct very recently. There could definitely still be relic populations around deep in the jungle.

Hey Bob you should look into and make a video about one of my countries cryptid. I am from Guatemala and we have duendes, my mom saw one as a child. But the one I would be interested in hearing your take on is one called La siguanaba. It is a cryptid with the face of a horse and the body of a beautiful woman. She is always seem with long black hair that hides her true face until she is close enough she reveals herself. It is said she steals children who have not been baptized mostly. Mainly it goes after children. My dad and my aunt had an encounter with it as children when they where tending the families corn maze. My dad said it was so ugly and pure evil. It was crying and they tought it was a lady who got lost, then it uncovered it's ugly face and begun motioning for them to come. Anyhow, I have never heard of a female cryptid such as this one in another country. My dad gets goosebumps till this day when he tells us the story.

I LOVE this channel! Sucks that Bob clearly feels like he has to clarify everything but sadly on this subject or subjects similar I completely understand it. I can't stand the sheep mentality us humans seem to be gravitating towards more and more. Regardless Bob if your reading this please know you have fans that fully support your opinions and I truly believe your a Very important piece to this puzzle
