My library is huge 216 gigs. Will it backup everything? I did what you mentioned, but I don't see any backup available. Do I need to wait till it saves all 216 gigs? Thanks!
From Apple: The Consolidate command follows these rules: When you consolidate files out of a library to an external folder, the files are moved. When you consolidate files into a library from an external folder, or from an external folder to another external folder, the files are copied.
The files were moved. But into a folder and not into a container which i had expected. I then threw away the folder and deleted it. The next thing i knew was that i could hardly breathe when i opened FCPX. Red screens all over ! It didn’t copy the files, it MOVED the files ! I have spent 3,5 hours relinking everything because i needed to gather all originals. The actual originals because i had deleted the originals that were originally in my project. So i would strenuously advise to revise your recommendations regarding making backups !

Make sure your HD has enough space.
instead of just having a project file you can copy, final cut makes you jump through 10 hoops
You can backup with a file copy as well.

I’m so sorry. What exactly did you do? Yes consolidating files gathers them together and moves them into the library but you shouldn’t have to relink.
