Mike-I just cleaned a pen that had been inked with this and was so surprised by the color the water turned as the ink got more and more diluted. I was a bight pink with purple tones--i.e very much in the red purple family when diluted. This ink is full of surprises and quite nice to use. It's so much more interesting than the (Pink) Cliff ink.
Interesting ink! I just went through all of my purples and I have nothing like this, although I really don't need any more purples, to be honest. Lovely ink and a nice pen, too. Thanks for the review!
@@inkdependence I pulled down my Col-o-dex cards and remembered I have a bottle of Private Reserve Ebony Purple. Very dark, saturated purple ink. Similar, but identical, to your Lamy ink. Now I will have to ink up a pen with this ink. (I really must organize my inks sometime. Sheesh!)
❤ Thanks, Mike, for reviewing this ink!! I am drawn to this one out of the 3 anyway. I will grab one from Crazy Alan's tomorrow. This will give me a chance to explore thier setup since new ownership. I had the original Dark Lilac pen/ink but decided to keep a 5ml sample from the bottle and pass onto someone who will actually use it but kept the pen. I found dark purple colors aren't my cup of tea, although pretty. I found the original Dark Lilac's purple tone to be similar to Diamine's Manggis but with green sheen. Actually Manggis looks super similar to the newly re-releasing Dark Lilac ink with a darker purple color...The new Dark Lilac purple undertone is definitely brighter more pinky purple like Pilot’s Yama Budo but with green sheen same as Diamine's Manggis. Yama Budo's sheen is the same as the original Dark Lilac...hope I didn't confuse anyone (I watched a review that compared the original Dark Lilac to the New one and to Blackberry-for anyone interested I believe she ordered her bottle via Stila x Stilo. She said it will be available to US Distributors next month). Diamine's Inkvent All the Best is also similar to the new Dark Lilac but with shimmer... in writing they look the same though. Mike, did you have a hard time cleaning any of the new inks out of your pens? What was Blackberry's dry time on the various papers you tested (namely the cosmo air light)?
Cosmo always takes an age to dry, but I don't think this ink took an unusually long time. I didn't time it, though. I just always keep a blotter page in my notebooks so I can close the thing without worrying about dry times. I haven't cleaned either of these pens yet. I've only had them inked for about a week and a half. 😅
Keep us posted after❤. I drove 45min to Crazy Alan's 😢 unfortunately he only had 1 bottle of Cliff left. He's ordering more so I've got to wait a week. What are you thoughts about Lamy's sale to Mitsubishi😮
Oh I just realized you’re in my area I guess! I go to crazy Alan’s too but a liiiittle bit of a trek from Raleigh. I may swing by for this ink if they still have a bottle left
Blackberry reminds me of black coffee when you shine a light directly on it and get that gold-ish reflect,…you know what I’m talking about? Like when you get that really, velvety, black, coffee. Is it just me? I’ll say that blackberry is my fave out of the two new inks and might even be a preference over dark lilac (2016).
Mike, try to dilute by a third to see if your bottle is full of concentrated ink (quality control issue.) It just means you got the bang for your buck with this ink buy.
I really like it the way it is, and it does look like most of the swatches I've seen out there, so I don't have any reason to think it's got a problem.
I will never cease to wonder why people applaud every time this ridiculous company puts out another cheap plastic pen in some random color and convinces everyone it’s a special edition. Lamy is literally the worst manufacturer of fountain pens on the planet. They just spend a lot of money on marketing.
People like new colors. It's not the most innovative pen out there, but sometimes people like to collect something that they know they like. And the pens are certainly not "the worst on the planet." Not even close. So 🤷

Did you find the ink hard to clean? Did you notice any staining? Thanks for sharing 😊
This ink is fascinating to me, incoming Dark Lilac or not! Really glad I bought a bottle. Thanks for the review as always!

Check your black inks. lol. It's hardly purple at all.

I love this ink! Just bought some from my local stationery store. I prefer it to Lamy Dark Violet.

Yep! I’m the other direction, but about the same distance. We have a pen club that meets at Crazy’s too, if you’d like to meet more pen folk.
I love this ink so much. I now of 3 bottles of it since it's a limited edition. I won't run out any time soon, but when I do I'll be sad!
One bottle for me then u dont need all 😊
3:51 “We’re gonna do it live. FUCK IT WE’LL DO IT LIVE”
That's the reference. We make that one around here a lot. 😆
I want this in my Pilot 823!

You bet!
I have been looking for a bright, fairly dark purple. I have Robert Oster Deep Purple and it was too dark. This seems the same. Any suggestions?
I like the window
Gotta have a window!
Do you know if the smaller 30ml bottles have the inkwell in the glass?
I don't! I've never gotten a smaller bottle from Lamy. I'm not even sure if I've seen them.
It is all sheen. It doesn't look purple at all. I might get a blackperry pen and use cliff ink. This ink is a bit too much for me.
My wife has been using it on some papers that eat sheen, and it's looking more purple for her. Still a little sheen, and still dark, but more purple.

Anyone have any ideas how to lighten up this ink? It’s too dark for my liking. Thx.
There are ink diluents out there, like from Birmingham Pen Co, but I've never used them.
Just... get a different ink whose color you don't dislike?

It's still a very inexpensive pen so what's the issue?
