Great video on stripping the engine and replacing the VVT intake sprocket, which was not the problem on my daughter's 2013 Equinox 2.4L. The chain guide on the intake side/right broke and destroyed the two mounting bolts. Bought an ACDelco chain and tensioner kit. Been racking my head about why when I set the VVT and crank timing marks they do not return to the initial setting after two turns of the crank. You, where other videos failed, informed me they would not!! Wow, I have been afraid to trying and button up the engine and start it!! Now I can get to flushing the engine. Thanks, thanks, thanks......

The VTS can be changed without removing timing cover if you keep slack out of chain. I have done it many times.

Why did the chain look so loose after you applied the tensioner?

Just one question: should I lubricate or prime with oil the vvt sprocket before install?

We installed new sprockets via a timing chain kit by Cloyes that includes these VVT sprockets. The video we watched (which didn't use VVT, but was for Cloyes parts) said use 63 ft lbs and 30 deg additional turn. You say 22ft lb plus 100 degrees. Is there any reason I'd need to pull the bolts and redo it or are they more or less going to have the same strength purpose based on the numbers I provided?

SO not necessary to replace the balance chain kit if its just your timing chain?

You don’t need to do that with the tensioner, just install it and generally hit it with the soft end of a screw driver and it will pop out and create tension

To replace the sprocket only, (I have a defective new one after replacing everything under the timing chain cover.) Can you replace it without taking the timing chain cover off again? I would think that if you make your own paint marks on where the chain and cam is at that moment, you could take the tensioner out, take the intake sprocket off, line the new one up with your paints marks and put the tensioner back in. Viola! Is that possible?
