    Cards Against Humanity was fun the first time...but after you've heard all the cards it loses its luster. Looking forward to trying out some of these alternatives.

    Been looking for a board game/irl game channel for ages, so glad I found this. I often make my own versions of games like these bc my family includes a range of ages/maturities/sense of humour/religion etc so I often have to remove cards from games like funemployed so my grandma doesn't get offended or reword cards so children can understand. This has given me some new ideas as well as introducing me to Stinker and Stipulations which sound like they could be idea already! Would also love to win!:)

    My board game group suffered the same problems you identified in Cards Against Humanity so we remixed it with Say Anything to create: Cards Against Say Anything. by using the CAH deck instead of the SA deck you get the best of both worlds, interesting funny set ups and open ended answers.

    Great video! I've been looking to get my friends away from playing CAH lately. Stinker, say anything, or stipulations all look like they could work with my group. Another alternative that worked great with my friends is game of things but we've pretty much gone through all the best questions for it.

  • @Virgilijus87
    @Virgilijus87 8 років тому

    I run a board game club at my school and the students always ask 'Can we play Cards Against Humanity'. Because it's a school sanctioned event, the answer is obviously no, but I also tell them that CAH is quite restrictive; you have to play to the card makers sense of humor and the offensiveness and shock value can depreciate quickly. We've only ever played one CAH-esque game (Funemployed) and it was a massive hit, mostly due to them being able to make their own tone to the game and being able to be more creative. I must admit I hadn't heard of most of these but they all look absolutely terrific!

    The only problem with Funemployed is it's name and box design.
    "The game of REAL jobs and UNREAL qualifications"
    If I try bring it out at a party/gathering people will usually judge it as something boring and nerdy.
    This basically means you need to set it up and do a rules explanation in 30 seconds before people have time to become disinterested. Saying that, I've never not had an amazing time playing it, and it's probably the funniest game I own. Out of the 30 people or so I've introduced it to, only 1 hasn't liked it. We're not friends anymore.

    Watched this ages ago and rewatched before sharing with a friend. :-)
    I do love the characters here (llol at some of the mum's lines) and your synposes do well to explain the games.
    One slight gripe - you make it sound as if for Say Anything you sometimes draw a card with a weak question. In actuality, each card has a range of questions from tame/boring to something potentially offensive.
    I think that this is a strength of the game - I regularly played it with complete strangers in an International cultural exchange group years ago and some folk would just pick "What's the best movie?" as a respite.
    Although I've not generally commented in the past (and some recent twitter comment encouraged me to do so more, which I'll try for a week to see how it goes), I do want to say again that you're making wonderful videos with the mix of comedy and cool games!

    • @actualol
      @actualol  7 років тому

      Thanks for another lovely comment Bez! That's a good point about Say Anything, and I think it's flexibility in those situations is admirable. I guess I was coming at it from a different mindset in this video, where if people kept picking the softer questions it led to a less entertaining game.

    Great video, Jon. Informative and funny, as always. Nice that you point out what type of groups the games are best for. I like in BYOB how the books occasionally get passed around the group, so an "overpowered" book gets shared with everyone. One of the funniest books we had was HTML for Dummies - it was great seeing people struggle and succeed to find good lines :)
