This video brought back memories. I used to log with my dad back in the late 70s into the late 80s. I never cut trees I drove skidder. 225 timberjack. I miss it sometimes. I drive a wheel loader now for a sawmill.I still like to here those timberjacks roar.
Excellent engineering Buddy. I should have read your description sooner, it sure looked a bit like a Hickory... my age/my eyes... I certainly enjoy your videos Buddy.
Came over from Buck'n Billy Ray's comment about this tree... I'd love to see this stuff filmed in 3D so I can experience the shower of chips even when I'm not cutting!
I use my skidder an push them over I use a wedge to make sure they stay put till I back over an push the tree down but some times I'll wedge bang them over..
Been in a similar situation but all i had was felling lever, no axe nor wedges. Took everything in me to lift that sucker but down it came. Oh and loved your wedge stacking tricks.
All ur limb turn on the back side. I use a big steel wedge with 15 lb maul. Never fails me. Excellent job u did. Have to take a break occationally. Like being n a fight ain't it. Lol

Kubota M8200 with homemade steel cab and Louis Steel on the rear. 77 chevy straight truck. And an ol Lucky knuckleboom. All these are my cousin's. My father and I run a company where we get up to 30 triaxle with pup trailer (6,000 ft) loads a week. But my cousin logs by himself with that Kubota and I have helped him alot when he is in a bind. I have always been a big fan of american steel but I will have to say that Kubota has all the modern tractors beat for raw quality.
This tree reminds me of a 30" dbh ash I cut a few years ago. It took me about 20 minutes of beating wedges with an 8 lb. sledge to get it to tip over... I had the wedges stacked and had to make a 4" glut to help it along. Very tiring!
Way to stick to it ! Most guys would have cut it off & let it crash & smash ! Real log cutters do it the way you did ! It's good to see that you care . I know it was not fun for you , but I enjoyed your cutting !
@@shadowk3, Steel wedges drive in better than poly ones because the poly wedges absorb the hammer blows and therefore do not drive in as far as the steel ones. But the poly ones are lighter to carry .
Hi OL'Skool!!😀😀 That was a heavy old white oak. Looked like you were running out of gas swinging that maul. Is that a 6 or 8 pound maul. Take care my friend!!😀😀
nice cutting video !!!! need to throw some steel wedges in your gear bag !!!! I tried a couple of them plastic wedges not long ago !!! a big red oak set back on me and i couldn't get it to start over center till I got my steel wedges in !!!! the plastic ones have their advantages but when i really needed to hammer they let me down !!! not good when your cutting ten feet from a house !!! lesson learned the hard way !!!
Ol school you wore me out on that one, hope rest of your day went well, haven't ever heard you say anything so im doin the cussen for ya brother, better get ya some more wedges an new sledge these worn out now lol, be safe brother man!
Oll friend of mine is a cutter and encounters this all the time he says, better him and you than me, good days work is hard enough , the one time this happened to me I had 4 wedges and that wasn’t enough.great video.
Getting them to go that last little bit the way u want them to can b quiet a project. The only way people out here n u tube land can understand what u r doing is to have done it themselves. I like u running out of harms way and i am sure u r looking up all the time. Awsome footage, keep em comming
sorry, but as soon as i saw that you were not using a Humboldt cut, i couldn't watch anymore. i'm related to 12 life-long professional fallers, and not one, or anyone they work with, ever use an open face cut, like you did, as opposed to a Humboldt cut, for obvious reasons. stay safe.

Good memories for sure, I worked alongside my dad as well some of the best days.
Same here! Loved cutting with my old man!!
Some of the best swearing sessions I've ever heard were connected to stubborn trees. Have a good one.
Got to love that thump that says the wedge isn't going any further. Nice work. Few have these skills anymore

Nice job. Way to stay patient and make it do what you want slowly a little at a time!!
Very well done.
Amazing work. As usual
Accross the pond here was taught to remove the flares first then not h and fell less bent bars
Very nice job ,that was a tough one .
Not easy moving all of that wood over center. Great job!!!
Buck'n Billy Ray sent me over to watch you bang`n away..... Propper Old Skool :-) Amazing!
I try to go for where the flares meet up and don't bury wedges. Double up twice or put one in backwards a little bit. Nice work.

I guess Im kind of off topic but does anyone know of a good site to watch newly released series online ?

Where u logging at bud? Great vids
Why did you wait so long to "double - up", the wedges ?...
Always like to keep a steel wedge or two around for them situations. 1 steel wedge do more than all the poly wedges you can fit in there.
Please explain.

Not too bad. There was some chin rubbin' but you didn't have to resort to ass scratchin'. Totally under control.

couldnt push it over with the skidder?
i use Betsy 2 push em
Been there, Done that
I would have cut the wedge deeper, you left to much timber on the back cut [ In my opinion ].
skidder blade
you did your home work
