Set aside some traditional beliefs you have if you want to understand why evil exists. Almost all Christians think that God is in control of everything that happens here on earth, but he isn't: 1 John 5:19: ...the whole world is under the control of the EVIL ONE. God gave authority in the earth to Adam. Adam gave it to Satan, Jesus got it back and gave it to man again. God is on the outside looking in. God can't do anything on the earth unless he has a man's authority to work through. Why do you think he had to send Jesus, a MAN? If he could just do anything, which he can't, why didn't he just flip his finger and solve the sin problem without sending Jesus? And almost all Christians believe that everything that happens to them is God's will. Does God's will always happen on the Earth? No. God doesn't want people to perish and go to hell, but it's happening against his will: 2 Peter 3:8-10: The Lord is ... not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Even Jesus said, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." That shows you that God's will is being performed in heaven but not completely on the earth yet. Just think logical, in John 10:10 Jesus said the 'thief' comes to Kill, Steal, and Destroy But I have come to give you Life To The Full! Does "life to the full" sound like the evil of child abuse, rape, murder, kidnapping, cancer, etc.? No way!!! Jesus wants the BEST for us, "Life To The Full!!!" There is a "Doctrine of Demons" and it teaches that God is in control of everything, meaning sickness, disease, and accidents as well. But we can see from the above scriptures that this is not true. Evil exists because God gave authority of this earth to Adam, who, in turn, gave it to the evil one. We, mankind, ultimately, and thanks to Jesus, ended up with that authority. But we still Satan and demons as enemies that we have to use it against. Most Christians don't even know that they have this authority. Satan, demons, man's free will, and physics are causing the pain and suffering! Jesus gave us the authority to be kings and conquerors here on earth, we are to use that authority against evil instead of sitting back and blaming God for these misfortunes. Some people are so confused that they think that these misfortunes are BLESSINGS from God to humble us or teach us something. Wow, that's a totally unbiblical view of God's character. How is that 35 year old man that died of cancer going to put into practice whatever it was that God was, supposedly, teaching him? The free will explanation doesn't really address a lot of the suffering we see in the world. First and foremost, there is a vast amount of suffering in the animal kingdom. Absent any human involvement, animals have been clawing and ripping one another apart for countless generations. They do so for food, mates, and territory. These types of brutal interactions are not an aberration but are built into nature itself as they occur over and over again wherever living organisms are found. Then, there are natural disasters which kill both animals and humans. There are viruses and bacteria. Radiation. Birth defects. And the list goes on and on. Worse still, it isn't even clear that people are even free in the way the rabbi describes. We don't really "choose" who we hate and who we love, but instead are caused to love or hate people based on how these people treat us and/or others. I was never in a position where I thought, "I can choose to love or hate my mom or love or hate Hitler; I guess I'll choose to love my mom and hate Hitler." It doesn't work that way; there are antecedent causes that compel me to love one person and hate the other.

I would also design the natural world in a way that does away with most natural disasters like tornados or earthquakes. Also, my existence, and what I want from people, would be known to humans around the world because I would routinely reveal myself. I would also communicate clearly and directly instead of through the ambiguous oral and written claims of a few human intermediaries once every couple thousand years.

Everything has it's opposite in the world. Yin & Yang. Without evil there can't be no good. Without hate, there is no love. The key is balance.
