I just bought it for my own bedroom in India. I live with my parents and they don't put a lock on my door, and I'm a 24 year old woman. May this lock keep us all safe in our own space. Take care!

This is definitely a great and much needed item for truck drivers!!!! Especially when using truck stop shower rooms. Most drivers have experienced someone opening the door to clean while they're still in there!!!!

THE POINT IS THAT ANYONE WHO TRIES TO BREAK IN WOULD MAKE ENOUGH NOISE TO WAKE YOU UP. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE INSANELY STRONG.
The point is they’d make just as much noise without that device if you use a regular lock.

@@smokey04200420 The point (that they say a million times) is that dozens of people may have keys to where you're staying. Hotels especially,. But even houses or apartments. Maintenance workers have keys and anyone could break in and steal maintenance keys as well, so this is an extra step they'd have to get through.

We had a home intruder 2 days into a stay at a rental property. Pretty sure it was someone that had access to the key as there was no sign of forced entry. Thankfully we scared him off, but this would have provided a bit more peace of mind!

Not designed to stop a kick in.. It's to provide some resistance if someone has the key in the room you are staying in. Such as a hotel room, AIRBNB, rental, etc. Not rocket science
If somebody is kicking it in you have other problems lol that being said this would help against a kick in. I usually put my belt over the hinge ontop of doors to stop it and sometimes a chair and glass cup. Something that will be loud and wake me and jam the door. It will buy me time and time buys you options.

Of your strikeplate has 3 inch screws, this will hold up against a kick in.They would have to snap metal otherwise.
I would use sofa to block the door in this case.
My dad has a HUGE knocking issue. He doesn’t ever learn to knock. This is the 6th time he walked in on me while I was changing. Finally taking matters into my own hands and buying this lock.
This makes me concerned that he's intentionally trying to catch you while you're changing. He'd soon stop if you told him you'll have to report him if he carries on. Its not OK. Unless toure under 10, you should be knocking. You're teaching your kids the value of privacy and respect

Just got mine. Can’t wait to use them.
Mine just arrived. I had to use mine on the deadbolt part of the door because it wouldn't fit into the other hole. It works well. Even once I disengage the deadbolt, the addalock prevents the door from opening.
I need this. Last summer I stayed in a nice Holiday Inn Express and it had the extra flip lock on top of the door. I was woke up with my door shutting. Someone opened that door, probably hoping I didn’t have that extra lock flipped.
I purchase two from Amazon for 12 bucks and they're definitely worth it. I live in an apartment and sleep better now that I own these.

I think this one was a messed up adalock. The official adalock doesnt have that obstruction in the striker hole. Idk why this one doesnt let the lock engage, but the official one does not have this

If you look on the table they are both different.
With the metal strip going down the middle of the opening for the bolt, it prevents the bolt from going into the strike plate. When they demo'd that one, the door swung back open a little after closing it. There was another version without that strip that seems to function as expected. This is too weird, and like other commenters here, a good kick would bypass it easily.
It seems like it's more useful to keep the maids and whatnot out at a hotel. I've had them walk in on me even when I had do not disturb on the door.
theres no metal strip on some of them. im guessing they're using a faulty one idk
but honestly doors in general are easy to kick down. when i was 12 i kicked down a metal door when i ran away. but practically, what hotel would kick down their own door 😂
if they really wanted to come in they'd kick the door in... but in doing so would make a lot of noise and wake you up..

Really useful lock , works on every door . If it don't fit a wee bit of slight wood removal ( 16th of an inch )
or move the metel bits with a pliers will make it Total Universal.

I was victim of an assault when I was living in a university dorm. One night a man broke into the room I was sharing with another girl. I woke up with assaulter physically on top of me. I still suffer trauma from this event. I wish I had had this back then. After the event, every night I would put a mini fridge against the door as long as I lived in a dorm.

As one who already owns this remember to also change screws in door latch to 3inch. & These are great but you have to hold them in place as your closing the door at the same time so if someone is right behind you your screwed but overall yes they work very well

this would be good for student bredrooms at uni... there are a lot of landlords that dont bother with locks...
They need to offer strike plates with different widths b/c these days not all doors are created equal
That's why there are 2 heart shaped holes in the chrome plate and the red slide is adjustable up and down which changed the width from the striker hole to the inside of the frame
What's with the piece of metal that is going through the striker hole. That doesnt lit the striker come out and engage itself. The ones in the home clips dont have the small strip in the striker hole. I wonder why on this demo ome there is a block to stop the striker from coming out of the door? That makes no sense

Enough force by kicking the door would bust the frame, I would add 3inch screws to the strike plates and door knob and deadbolt.

I found it last night.
You take a fork, measure the tips in the lock and then bend the tips in a vice grip to a 90° angle (bang with a hammer). Then you need a saw to cut the handle off.
I don't have a vice grip or a saw anymore, so I wouldn't be able to do it. (I don't have a workshop since I moved.)

The property management changes locks between renters. They aren't about to take on the liability of giving someone else access to your apartment or house!!

I am pretty sure if you can fit two Credit cards in the jam, you can by pass this easily by putting a small L shaped piece of metal through the bottom pushing up and having the red handle portion fall off, bypassing the only feature stopping this from opening
This might work I don't know but the average person is not going to have that stuff they are not going to know about it. you know they could just kick the door in but what they're talking about here is people that already have keys and nothing is 100% but this is surely about 98% and I have two of them and I'm glad I do I live in an apartment complex and if what you say is true you had no business putting it up here
I admit I did not watch the whole video so this might be explained. However, the version that they are demoing in the studio should be called 'replace-a-lock' as the door catch will not go in the hole of the door jam. This will preven the original door lock from engaging. There is a metal piece in the way. HOWEVER, in the recorded videos, (3:17 for example) the version they show does not seem to stop the door catch from going in the jam. I wonder why there is two? I would think the the one with the hole for the catch would be better, but there must be a reason they built the one that blocks it.

You can do the exact same thing just using a regular fork! Also, this model is stupid because it prevents any dead bolt to lock the door so you rely only on this thing..

The new one allows the bolt to close, that's the only reason I decided to purchase it.
The fork is so unreliable lock the door and then tell someone on the outside to just push hard it falls out because it doesn’t curve around the whole lock knob

The design on the video will not allow for the primary lock >the one that comes with the door< to to work . So add a lock should be called replace a lock. as you are not using both locks which is a design flaw . More appropriately is should be called THE KEY STOPPER. Just got mine. Unfortunately it does not work with the majority of doors in Greece. It only works with “straight” doors...

Sorry, but I have been a joiner / Carpenter since I left school and I can not see any advantage of fitting one of these at all?
This is basically for internal doors without any sort of bolt on them to hold them shut just like any sort of bolt would.
Hotel rooms have locks fit on them not just a door latch that this is designed to fit.
like they said in the video, it’s mainly for people who may have key access to your place and you don’t want them to just come in unsolicited.
for instance, the reason i bought one and a very annoying problem i have is that the maintenance in my apt building has a habit of coming and going as they please after knocking once and assuming i’m not here. & if i’m not inside i really could care less if they come in and do their job, which is why the lock only works when you’re inside. this is my space, i know they’re trying to do their job but they have to understand that this is MY space and they can’t just barge in because they want to check a fire alarm. this happened a few days ago where i was showering with music and a woman came in yelling to get my attention just to tell me they were here to replace my bed, which again is fine, but literally if i’m naked in the bathroom, regardless of who it is, i don’t want someone randomly coming in just because they have a key and i’m unaware.

This is good because in the night or if your in a hotel or bathroom you can't tell if someone is trying to pick the lock espically if you are sleeping or in the shower. This might not stop someone but it gives you a few seconds or maybe enough time to either get ready, hide or call the police. If something where to happen to you those few seconds you have you can call 911 and the operator can here you and that will save you.
I just bought some of these after maitenance came in my home unexpectedly and ran up to my room and started knocking.I told them to go away because I was naked.But they said cover up so we can see the room.I said no and they left but I'm going to make sure they never bust in my apartment while I'm home again unless I let them in.
Not to scare you but hope you got this. In Florida a maintenance guy was obsessed with a young student and he entered her apartment because he had master keys. I highly recommend this

@@RR-uq1fu Hmm. Okay. I see now. It's not dependent on the lock's latch but rather uses the strike in the frame as an anchor and the red plastic piece holds the door in a bind. So no, the key won't work from the outside because the latch is already pulled back. If your door doesn't have a deadbolt with long screws this would be convenient option.
@@RR-uq1fu Read some more comments and the newer version do let the latch engage but it shouldn't make a difference whether someone has a key, because the addalock will remain in a bind on the inside.

You need a deadbolt. Relatively easy to install.
Depending on how secure you need it, a hasp and padlock would be even easier.
Get yourself Schlage deadbolt they’re cheap and very sturdy not too easy to pick.

I don't think people should use this at hotels though,because if it's an emergency it will be hard for paramedics to get to you.

They are good but if your door swings the other way you can use them
Dont recomend that type of door setup. If your door swings outward it can be taken off the hinges.
Yeah, tried it on ANY door which so happened to be the bathroom door, and my daughter is currently stuck in the bathroom. The addalock will NOT move. I may have to call the fire department.

There are some that you can use to lock while you’re gone. The Chrome Travel Lock is one of them
This lock will not work on any doors in my house. Gap not big enough. Door opens outwards etc

Super easy to change your locks
Not in a hotel...not in an airbnb...not when you have to hire babysitters, contractors, etc...or when you have lots of roommates in past history. who all may have a copy of the key. If you live in a perfect bubble where no one else on Earth has a copy of your key and you never travel, then sure, you don't need this I guess.

I think it's a great idea to use this for travelling and dorms but for your home why not just install interior locks. I imagine a door guard or barrel bolt would be more effective than this while also being cheaper.
Some apartments don't allow installing extra locks
Remember, fewer and fewer people can afford to buy a home. Many people rent and many landlords don't allow you to install things like that.
