Common myth. It stems from the Thompson-LaGuard tests following the failure of the 38 colt during the Philippine insurrection. In the tests, cows were shot, but with no controlled method and very mixed results. The only cartridge that actually dropped the cow was 7.63 Mauser. 45 auto and 476 Webley took several minutes before the cow fell, and other calibers were given comically poor treatment by the proctors. For instance, with 9mm the test did not fire into the cow and wait like all the others but instead emptied the whole magazine into the animal then smacked it in the head with a slaughterhouse axe. I recommend googling the test and reading the original text. It’s a surprisingly awful experiment, it reads like two high schoolers messing around with guns being pseudo-intellectual the whole time.
@@jacobackley502Well for one, .45ACP didn’t exist yet at the time, so that’s already incorrect. Now the results did make note that shot placement mattered most, hence why the 7.62 Mauser managed to drop the cow the quickest. However, .45 caliber bullets did make bigger holes and had more momentum which is what the cadaver tests were. Those do have merit. And that’s not even getting into the fact that with modern understanding of ballistics, the temporary stretch cavity doesn’t really matter while the permanent wound cavity does otherwise hollow points are totally useless. That also points to bigger holes being better than smaller holes. So either way, they came to the right conclusion. 9mm is only chosen nowadays because modern bullets make it adequate while being cheap due to being so old and established. And even then, .45ACP is still mathematically better. It’s just not better enough to be worth spending the extra cash and logistics strain from a non-NATO standard round. Same reason why 5.7x28mm isn’t used despite being better than the 9mm in every way in the opposite direction if caliber genuinely doesn’t matter.

Typically an older individual of the baby boomer generation, one who thinks old weaponry and bolt action rifles are okay, but does not think anything modern should be accessible to citizens such as AR-15s. In my comment in this instance, the cow seems to show interest in the 1911, a cult classic among Fudds for it being in "muh two world wars" and ".45 caliber is God's caliber" and "They use .45 because they don't make a .46" Being some of the most common mantras of Fudd commentary on this museum relic of a weapon.

I don’t blame them, this is probably the best form of gun showcasing on UA-cam. Just shows the gun and how to operate it, no filler. I’m frankly glad more channels are using this style, it’s great for both casual gun enjoyers and enthusiasts.
