This clip of Richard Marx occurred a few weeks before he sent the tweet about buying Senator Rand Paul's violent neighbor a drink.

On May 23, 2021, Richard Marx tweeted "I'll say it again: If I ever meet Rand Paul's neighbor I'm going to hug him and buy him as many drinks as he can consume."
Richard Marx was referring to the 2017 incident when Senator Paul (R-Ky) was assaulted by his neighbor. Senator Paul was hit from behind by his neighbor who was running at full speed down a hill towards him. There was no fight between Senator Paul and his neighbor; Senator Paul was hit from behind. Because of this assault Senator Paul suffered six ribs broken. A portion of his lung had to be removed due to damage from the assault, He had pneumonia twice and a year later was still coughing up blood due to the assault. He has permanent scarring on his lung.
On May 24, 2021 a suspicious package filled with white powder showed up at Senator Rand Paul's house in Kentucky. On the outside of the package was a photo of Senator Paul wearing a neck brace, crutches, and a cast on his arm. A gun was pointed at Senator Rand Paul's head in the photo. Written on the photo was the message "I'll finish what your neighbor started, you (expletive)."
On May 24, 2021 Senator Rand Paul tweeted "I have been targeted multiple times now, it is reprehensible that Twitter allows C-list celebrities to advocate for violence against me and my family!" The "c-list" celebrity is a reference to Richard Marx.
On May 24, 2021 A twitter user by the name of John Dennis tweeted "But Mr.Marx glorifies violent assault with no repercussions."
Richard Marx replied with the tweet "You see Johnny-Bob...unlike your hero/fuhrer now residing down in MaraLoco, I never incited nor even suggested anyone be violent. Certainly not towards the traitor known as Rand Paul. I'm just saying that the fact someone slugged him doesn't break my heart."
On May 25, 2021 during an interview about Richard Marx's tweet, Senator Rand Paul, the first U.S. Senator to test positive for COVID-19, said while describing the physical damage he suffered because of the assault that "He's (Richard Marx) offering a guy to buy drinks to somebody that will do it again and finish the job. That sounds to me like he's advocating violence. Sounds like he's a despicable human. But think also about what he's angry about. He's an irrational idiot. He's angry because I'm not getting vaccinated. Guess what? In India there's not enough vaccines. Do you think we should be debating whether people in India should be getting the vaccine who have already had the disease or whether we should save the vaccine for those who have not gotten the disease? This is a discussion, that is a public health discussion that could save millions of lives. In Israel they discovered that those who had gotten the disease survived equally well to those who had gotten the vaccine. It's about the same. So when there is not enough vaccine for the world the advice to the countries that don't have enough vaccine is incredibly important. Millions of lives depend on it. And that is the idea that I have. That you should vaccinate first those that have not had the disease and let the people that have had the disease count on their natural immunity. Nobody wants to get infected but if you've been infected, you have some natural immunity. This should not be a political issue. They should not want to kill me and send anthrax to my house. "
On May 27, 2021 during an interview with Senator Rand Paul and his wife Kelley Paul, Kelly Paul said, " I just also wanted to say media has misrepresented this from the beginning. Before that man assaulted Rand he had disgusting things on his Facebook. Graphic, horrible things that he wanted to do to President Trump. He was a politically motivated person. He admitted to the police and to the courts that he had never spoken to Rand in over ten years, never complained to us about anything. His lawyer then tells the media 'Oh it was a yard altercation. ' And the media took his lawyer's words to them as fact completely ignoring the fact that this man was a vocal internet hater of Trump, of the GOP, and had never spoken to us. We've had no problems with this person in, you know, in twenty years of living, you know, three acres away from him."
