incredibly deep and nice person at the same time. you can feel in any of his words how much his music means to him. and that´s how it´s supposed to be.
amazing style imagination n ear Ive been a fan for yrs. lol if I ever win the lotto, Im commin across the pont to catch him live :) love 2 see him n Tali, Id die happy lol
First tune sick.. sounds like a die thing but they all had that magic bristol touch.. Ronisize and the crew set the levels very high.. quality music all round.. took it to the live instrumental stage, with live vocalist and stage performance whilst keeping it underground
I grew up on hip hop so dnb just jived with me and was a natural transition/progression. Then I was introduced to certain substances and it catapulted me to space haha
LOVE this documentary - and I always have MAXIMUM respect for Roni Size... but of the Bristol crew, Krust is (for me) the one who was really pushing boundaries. check "Futures Unknown" for a glimpse inside the mind of a visionary. and all this debate over years etc etc... yes - drum & bass as a 'genre' existed loooong before Roni started up the Reprazent family. personally, i would agree with whoever was saying that '94-'96 was our golden era... nothing since has ever come close
The 92-96 era was really the peak of The Bristol cru, specially those DD and Philly Blunt flicks. And yes, Krust in his Future Unknown era was in a league of his own, very influential :-)
i liked some of his early stuff n did go out on the bristol scene...however for me the magic was in the jungle, not dnb..the jungle was special..dnb eventually killed the jungle...
Was so glad that was my era people say who was the greatest producer of that era. Personally Dillinja or Ed rush n optical or roni n krust or andy c n Shimon. They made music for great times
learn your history. drum & bass was coined long before this. i have the compilations to prove it. i'm talking 1994. i've been a dj since the early 90's piano-rave & prodigy dark-core breakbeat era. 1997 was the zero-point for jungle/drum & bass. i lump them together because it's all from the same roots. roni size & tech-step set the bar. everything that came after just tried to emulate & imitate.
you think what you'd like, new school. d&b was heavy in the jungle era, '93-'96. this crew made it more palletteable to mainstream consumers of music. i have over a thousdand d&b tracks from the era prior this album dropping. but anyway, think what you'd like to think.
A potential answer for you 11 years later 🤣 I think this and a few of the other snippets on this program re-materialised as BreakBeat Era tracks in the early 2000s.
@@NuclearcoreSkeletness Agreed, this sounds really great. I was always a bit disappointed with breakbeat era stuff, but ai think Roni Size just used those samples he'd already made
sad how the bristol scene which was england's epic star in electronic music fizzled away. the false claims of "no one did before" aside, roni size and his crew moved to the East Coast U.S. - producing cheesy and predictable hip_hop with template DnB ... the epic years 1995_2000 crashed .. then came Burial 2007 and Hyperdub
For all you haters. Jungle/Dnb lives forever. The scene is still alive, and never died. Its legacy will ALWAYS remain
New Forms will forever be in the top 10 electronic albums of all time.
Dem old bbc intros bring it back to the analogue
hahaha i thought tha same
'Crystalisation of an urban experience' ... sooo true!
Such good times have been had to this album!!!

Bristol was huge for the rave/ jungle scene, plenty of top DJS and MCs came from the area
Coventry, London n Bristol were where it’s at.
i taped this on vhs back in the day when it aired
Thanks for uploading this-I have never seen it. Repazent were definitely running it back than.

Wow, I remember seeing this. Shame the audio quality isn't great but thanks for uploading.

12:40 goooooooosebumps...
Does anyone have the Mercury Music Prize 1997 in full?
can't argue with that
If it weren’t for Bryan Gee, Roni Size wouldn’t have been discovered
Was good seeing Bryan in vid at beginning
this was the climax of d&b.
Sometimes I do think it comes down to 'if the face fits'
i liked some of his early stuff n did go out on the bristol scene...however for me the magic was in the jungle, not dnb..the jungle was special..dnb eventually killed the jungle...
jungle is dnb you maniac
Thug culture killed jungle. Dnb was a result.

Jungle is still alive, just back underground. You gotta know where to look :)
As far as I'm concerned he is a genius !
There was a time where NYC actually had some heat as well in this aspect: Dara, Stakka & K-Tee, Soulslinger....what happened?

@lucoctober na, dont think so, just a little improv for the program, the strings were used on New Forms though.
BIG! RONI SIZE...LEGEND IN THE GAME..repping bristol big time!
roni size is a musical genius ! end of
america 1997: not ready for dnb.......america 2013; still not ready for dnb.

Ltj bukem didn't really do the explanation of what drum and bass is much justice
the bbc used to keep it real.
