    I like the textures of the rock in this cave, those smoother passages would make a nice path through a garden. Your so lucky to have so many amazing places to explore. There is no big cave networks where i live but i found a very rugged volcanic area but recently found some smaller volcanic pockets along cliffs while climbing a mountain called Mount Lindsay. So im hoping to find an entrance way to something bigger if i take my time.

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  Рік тому

      Mount Lindsay down under? I'm just curious where that's a pretty common name for a mountain. But saying there are no big cave networks where you live is a line I've heard before. And I can say without knowing where you live that it's not true.
      We live one in one of the least cave areas of our country. Caves are generally plentiful everywhere but the caving world has kept quite private. Digging for your own caves is very difficult to do so good for you for finding something.
      If you aggressively want to be a caver I would encourage you to search online for caving groups and try to join one. Otherwise digging through the internet to find information on caves it's also helpful. Cuz finding them out in the wild is pretty difficult to do but starting on Mount Lindsay is probably going to be pretty fun for you. It's fun to explore. At least you're outside you know not inside watching videos all day. let us know how it goes.

    • @CalvinHikes

      If I don't know where I'm going, I make a rock pile whenever I take a turn. So if I get lost I can just follow the rock piles back to the entrance.
      The rest is very educated guessing. Caves and lava flow have a particular way they tend to develop, based on the rock, gravity and a number of other factors. Being knowledgeable (or at least experienced) about the way caves are helps to navigate. But we still get turned around sometimes!

    hey i was wondering what you would do in the case of emergency like somebody getting stuck. i noticed that its mostly you and your nephew so what would you do in that case? would you leave your nephew to go get help or let him leave you for help? that seems like a very scary situation to me even tho getting stuck is very unlikely

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  3 роки тому

      We have tools for getting unstuck. We are literally the people that get called if someone gets stuck. So we have lots of tools for it. We are part of a caving community and we help each other if necessary.
      If I got stuck Jacob knows how to use the tools and he also knows how to call for help and he also knows how to drive for help.
      All that being said, it's just super unlikely. The odds of us getting stuck are far greater than you could imagine.

      @@CalvinHikes okay thats good to know i know getting stuck is very unlikely but its still something that scares me. Also your videos have really made me want to go out and explore nature and possibly even caves. Would it be safe to start spelunking with some friends with the basic information from youtube or would you always recommend a cave expert?

    You’re an interesting man, my friend. And your videos are extremely interesting. However, every time I reach the point of no return in life, my wife divorces me and sends me right back to square one! Kinda throws a wrench in your thesis. Stay safe.

    Good talk today, man! I'm 30, and starting to feel the beginning of the constriction of options. Especially since lately I've been realizing I want to make some big changes, but I'm not sure in what direction. It's starting to feel like there's less time to vascillate though. It's an interesting time to be in! Caving feels like a great analogy for it

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  3 роки тому +23

      Life is a vacillation between choices. There are times when you just have to pick a direction and move foreward. We often have to leave good things behind in our search for what is better.
