    I have this pen and was surprised you didn't mention how soft the nib felt. Almost, but not quite as soft a feel as a gold nib.

    I have a couple of Preppy's and have borrowed a friend's 3776 while she was away ; ) and they are very reliable pens that work so well...
    ...and that adds to the attractiveness of the Procyon. I love the way it looks. It's classy without overdoing it. So many lower price pens I like took toyish or have narrow sections or are too heavy or don't fit (lamy safari) or write too dry.
    I'm always looking for an affordable EDC across contexts (fun and professional) I'm not afraid to lose and this may fit the bill.
    I'd also definitely buy this for others.
    Darn it.. I'm convincing myself while writing this lolol.
    Thank you for the review : )

    Bought one because of a dynamite price and quickly added it to my work note taking rotation

    MMmmm. I love Heinlein's stories!! So many good ones. But it's been four plus decades since I read The Star Beast. I actually enjoy your brief excursions off the main subject.
    Good review and great use of the box and your hand to provide a contrasting color and to focus the camera.

      Thanks! I know some reviewers don't really want to put anything about themselves into the videos, but that's not really my style.

      I think, if reviewers were compared to fountain pens and ink, we would find that putting something of themselves into the videos is like a broad nib on exquisite paper with a gorgeous ink. It might be risky from the reviewer's perspective, but I think it adds character and spice. It gives us (the audience) something to grab hold of, something to relate to and interact with. Otherwise, the "community" would be nothing more than facts and figures. Thank you for doing so! And you do it well. ( Though I must say I prefer the TARDIS to the Daleks! ;-p )

      Well, if it makes you feel any better, I have a TARDIS in front of me that never makes it on-camera. ;)

    I'm waiting for mine to show up right now as I love the preppy for sketching, but wished it was more substantial...
    I bought a Plaisir because it's supposed to be the upgraded preppy (literally you just swap the head/nib) and while I love the green color, I abhor the "bling" on the barrel and it is noticeably light.
    I'm hoping the Procyon is the sweet spot that maintains the preppy's line quality/feel, but with the heft and sleek look of a professional pen I can pair with my falcon and kuretake 40 when doodling.

    • @inkdependence

      I think it probably will. Let me know how you like it! I like a couple of the Plaisir models, like the gunmetal ones, that aren't blingy. I agree they need to chill out with that cap band, though. It's too much on most models.

    Thanks for the detailed review of the Procyon review and the good info about the creative inks. I have a Citrus Yellow Medium on order with the add-on converter, so we will see if I get some cartridges. Great comparisons of other pens in the same price point. I enjoy Heinlein, too, and am currently reading Vol 2 of his biography. I will dig out my Star Beast copy and read it, after Double Star. Eating cars.... Hmmm.... Maybe we need more Star Beasts.

    Thanks for the review, there's still not a lot of reviews out there for the Procyon... after half a year, how is it holding up? I'm thinking of getting either the Procyon F, Lamy Aion EF, or Faber Castel Loom F which all seem to be around the same price range, and would appreciate any advice. :)

    Heinlein was always my favorite. I thought I'd read all of his works but this one isn't ringing a bell. I was really into sci-fi and fantasy back in the early '70s and had tons of paperbacks that I would buy new or at a local used book store. The Robert E. Howard novels with the Frank Frazetta covers were awesome, but I gave away all of my collection to a fellow worker and his son who were enthusiasts also. I kinda wish I still had them, but at least they went to a good home, lol.
    Too bad you don't like eye dropper pens, as Opus 88 has some nice ones.

      I mostly read-for-pleasure on devices these days, and it's a bit frustrating that I can't find most of Heinlein's catalog in digital form. So, the ones that I have I keep on the shelf. I read most of them from the public library in my youth. They knew me well, there.

      I hear you. About ten years back I got a Kindle and was looking for books by Heinlein, Howard, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Andre Norton and others and it was very aggravating. You'd think that books that old should be easily available. I found some on Project Gutenberg but many are just not available anywhere. Bummer.
      Yeah the library was great when I could get to one, but luckily we had the Book Mobile in the summer to ease my cravings. I miss the days when I could read a novel in one sitting.

    Thank you, Mike. The inks are neat indeed.

      Yeah, I'm excited to get into them eventually. This fine nib really sips ink, though, so it's good that I have that fancy cap on there.

    Great review in a lovely relaxed style, thank you! How is it holding up over time? And how does the F nib compare to that in the Eco?

    • @inkdependence
      @inkdependence  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! It’s held up just fine. No problems at all. The fine nib is a good bit finer than the one on an Eco.

      @@inkdependence how is the finish holding up? Does the color fade or flake off? Does it gets scratches easily?

  • @richardsims6016

    So Mike, The TWSBI & the Procyon are about the same size with the former being much cheaper with several nib confirmations. Think I'd go with the TWSBI. How about you? Thanks for the great review!

    • @inkdependence
      @inkdependence  6 років тому

      That’s a pretty tough question. I like the feel and look of this pen, but it’s really hard to beat the Eco if you don’t mind its slightly odd look.

    Are there options other than Platinum for long lasting ink cap design? Im looking for around $50 price tag.

    • @inkdependence
      @inkdependence  5 років тому +2

      You know, the best luck I've had with that are TWSBI pens. They tend to have really great cap seals. Like, good for years.

    Seems like a failed design--section to short. We're used to desirable #6 nibs so it's hard to use this pen. Idea that cap should seal pen is good and Platinum deserves credit for this interest. A tight cap forgives sins of a bad nib in many cases. A better nib in a poorly sealed pen is worse than a mediocre nib in a tightly sealed pen that won't dry out. But many pens are tightly sealed--even cheap pens--so you're good to go.
