I’d leave the access lids on, mainly to stop the water evaporating out. This is what I suspect happened to your tomatoes, as the poly got too humid with 48 evaporating out creating a breading ground for mould and diseases.
Santa is bringing me one. I have two of the old ones, I had them on a table in the greenhouse, but found them awkward to refill, with the tiny hole. I'm looking forward to not having that issue this year.
keep the lid on the water reservoir - it will prevent light getting in which prevents algae growth in the reservoir - less cleaning at end of season

Hi Tony, I have the older style and grew aubergines in it, they did quite well. This year I will do my chilli plants in it
