I think that Sonic's animations in this mod are brilliantly expressive and awesome but I do think that there's just a little bit of information overload with all the extra visual noise that comes from the hit counter, boss titles, destroyed text, etc.

Edit: after looking at it a bit, it does seem like he's actually just leaning so far forward that his hand is SO close to the ground. Still, the fact that it took clarification kinda backs top comment's point about it being information overload. Which is kinda the problem with fangames/mods that have animation that's fit for a cartoon, rather than an actual game. Ah well, still pretty good animation.

I love how absolutely in your face this mod is with all it's new visual flares... I so badly want someone too make an entire original fan-game fully embracing the art-style.

The mod changes Sonic 3 air to look like Sonic Mania by changing sprites, music etc. There is also a Modern S3&K mod, Cooler Sonic in S3&K, Sonic and the secret rings mod, Sonic after the sequel mod the list goes on. These mods are my personal favorite's if you think they are not good than that's fine

I vibe with the mod aesthetics, but this raises a few questions. In terms of collectables/'endgame', the chaos emeralds, followed by the super emeralds, were a neat collection deal. (Some minigames sucked, though, especially the one where you had to literally memorize how to run in 4 squares perfectly.) Do those just no longer exist, replaced by a temporary buff mechanic (Looks a bit like the Archie Sonic's best form), or is the mechanic significant later on? (I'd think the latter since you needed all 14 to get into the final stage in S&K originally.) Does this also revamp Mecha/Metal Sonic from S&K in any way? He was a neat mini-boss (Final Boss, if Knuckles) but one thing I regret is not being able to trade blows with the guy in Super/Hyper form, and that he sortof becomes irrelevant as soon as he exists, like he did in Sonic 2. (Or 1; Forget which one had the spike-hand Eggbot) Is the circus level midpoint in S3(&K) still a hot mess? I have zero idea to this day how they expected you to know how to get out of that deathtrap room (The one with the rotating, bouncing platform that just leads upwards into a curve.) I eventually used the Debug mode to get under it, but nothing I tried, with or without a 2P worked. (Supposedly you could push up or down to make it go up or down, but that just raised/lowered the screen like usual.)
Never knew that growing up, and there was no indicator that was a thing, even in the booklets. It felt like you were supposed to jump on it, but even with Hyper Sonic's super dash unlocked (Legitimately, despite the debug claim.) it wasn't possible. I just thought my version of it on the Sega was bugged, especially since it did that even with the & Knuckles cartridge attached.
I know one of the manuals calls Mecha Sonic Metal Sonic but I feel like you didn't have to put /Metal Sonic, I feel like /Mecha Sonic mark 2 would make more sense

They're doing part time as a hobby what SEGA and TST isn't doing professionally full time. I can't voice opinion on Frontier yet as I haven't played it - but I'm hesitantly soon to with bated breath.

So in other words, a small remaster. How well that was executed in the end is a different story, but what this mod is going for is completely different. It’s more so trying to completely revamp the experience by bringing a bunch of new stuff that, while certainly impressive, is completely different from what is seen in the base game. In other words, it’s more of a reimagining. They’re both going for something quite different. I do agree that Sonic Origins could’ve been more well executed, but to say that it’s bad because this mod makes some pretty neat changes is kind of a ridiculous thing to say. It’s like saying a hotdog is bad because it’s not a hamburger, they’re both different things that are doing something completely different.
Holy crap! This mod is in the very same style as the upcoming S3&K Newtrogic Panic game. Whoever did this must be connected with the project. What's so beautiful about this is that they intentionally made it in a way that feels as if Treasure could have made a Sonic game like this.
Only if modern sonic games had this kind of more grounded expressions and unique animations, i think animations can really help define a character in any piece of media.
I always thought how odd it was that in Japan, Sonic had friendly box art, but in the west, Sonic had super edgy box art. This art is nothing short of phenomenal, but it also pairs nicely with that super edgy western box art
Ehh, the mod has some really nice takes but in a lot of aspects I actually prefer the originals. I think it’s the jittering they kinda kept along with the rigid lines I spot here and there that remove some of the fluidity the game already did phenomenally.
The boss transitions and shields and effects are cool as hell but I don't like how they just changed the original tracks. I like their renditions but the regular s3&k music was great already. Should of did a redo of the themes or just kept them
Animations are great but there is a lot going on visually. It would be perfect for a movie or animated series but for a game it's best to keep certain animations simple.
to be honest, i like the mod, its just that the character sprites feel uncanny, having modern 3d sonic characters in 2d sprite form just dont sit right with me but besides that everything is amazing

Sonic's been playing Guilty Gear lately with those boses... you need to mode in HEAVEN OR HELL, LET'S ROCK! at the beginning of them! The movement mods look very nice, but the shields, while visually more energetic, might be a bit much. I'm sure hte devs way back in the day wanted the player to be able to focus without a ton of animations going on around Sonic.
Who will win? a fast blue hedgehog with his fox friend who is intelligent and has 2 tails to fly or a fat man who has a special ship full of traps and who creates many machines and robots
Neat, though its distracting next to the original level and enemy textures. The entire game really needs an overall if you're going to change the art direction this drastically. The charging spindash texture also looks rushed.

I always like those kinds of mods that stylistically exaggerate Sonic’s animations up to eleven, and this one is no exception.
God the movement is great. His peel out actually looks like hes struggling to build up that held back speed that just gets unleashed

The barrel would raise and lower if you were standing on it
The barrels goes up and down if you press up and down, but you have to time your presses correctly along with the rhythm.

This mod is just very POG!
I like the old character designs but the effects are cool
I prefer a mod than the original mod is cooler
Neat, though its distracting next to the original level and enemy textures. The entire game really needs an overall if you're going to change the art direction this drastically.
The charging spindash texture also looks rushed.
This looks really dope, though I think Knuckles looks a bit odd.
