Lovely resto. All his adult life, my late father used this type of razor. As did I when I first started shaving. However, as time went on I lost my right arm & was unable to use such a tool safely. I plumped for more modern multi bladed things with a solid bar (as opposed to toothed) guardrail, but NEVER have I been able to achieve such a close shave as with one of these. Sadly, it is now history & I use a BRAUN electric ! Thank you for sharing this excellent and (for me) nostalgic restoration.
Sweet! Love those old razors. I have two of my grandfather's. I wish I had the box like yours. I like the brass exposed. Great job as usual. Thank you.
My dad used to shave with razor like this. Also his father as well, my grandfather. I don’t have that razor anymore but i do shave with this style razor. I will tell you this razor is very good and I’m very happy after each shave. It is very sharp so you need to be very careful when you are shaving. In the past i tried all moderns razors but none of them is shaving like old school single blade razor. Great video of restoration. I like it a lot. All your videos i really like. Some of the tools i never saw in my life and i couldn’t imagine their existence.
I remember so clearly my late father used a razor like that. He wouldn’t use any other razor than his Gillette and the Gillette blades 😌 What a beautiful restoration 👏
Love ur restoration cuz u minimal the metal removing and if I restore brass, I never sand it which putting a deep scratch on the brass and I always remove it with polishing or wire brush
Love the restoration. I still use a razor the same as that. Changed over from the multi bladed razors that cost a fortune to maintain with blades. The single razor is cheaper and does the same job. You’ve won a new subscriber from Australia and the best part is, there’s heaps more videos I can binge watch. Thanks mate. 👍🇦🇺
Nice work, but as others have said, it's not supposed to be bare brass. Gillette made razors and cases out of brass, but then nickel, gold, or in rare cases, rhodium plated them. By cleaning the case, you removed all the plating. The correct plating should be re-applied.
Sorry but some of us still use blades like this, I still use a straight-Razor. Does a great job and the blade is also made in Germany. I’ve still got two of them . Gave up on the double razor like in the video cause sometimes hard to find the blades. Still great for shaving tho. I maybe a little older than most viewers to your channel. Don’t know how this got recommend to me. Nice video tho.
My father was in the RAF and the razor he had opened up by twisting the bottom then the top opened to each side. apart from that, it was identical to yours.
Hey, man, great job! I like the polished brass finish way more than the plated finish that it originally had. I'd like to think *Lé Meep* really showed *Lé Honk* who's boss at 7:16 haha
Question: which compounds did you use for the razor and box? Can this all be done with a dremel instead of a bench? Which dremel bit pads would you use?
I use the blue and white polishing „blocks“. Blue is fine and white is medium. The difference between dremel and a polishing grinder is the size of the area being polished. If you do it with the small dremel bits (white buffing discs), there will be polishing marks. I’d use some soft bits (they have several layers of wool combined to one disc) as a finishing disc. But I can’t tell if it’s abrasive enough to polish deeper scratches.
Like seriously .... I dunn know why i got suggestions fa this .... May be youtube knows that ma body hairs ah grown during this quarantine 😂😂😂 En i need to shave them 😉
Love the restoration, this model is known as the Old Type and was made in the 1920's. Keep up the great work!
Hey ronnie, thanks for your Information! I will 🙂

How did I miss this one? Ooh nice and shiny. Mister Patina calms the soul.

Hallo Dirk, danke für deine netten Worte :-)
Sweet! Love those old razors. I have two of my grandfather's. I wish I had the box like yours. I like the brass exposed. Great job as usual. Thank you.
Great job as usual, like everyone is saying, definitely replate the brass parts with nickel. Then it will definitely look original.
Thanks Mitchell, ill try to keep the stuff more original in the future! Hope you enjoyed anyways! :-)
Easy day for you mr.patina

very nice polish up replate that box with nickle the brass will tarnish,
I really didn't expect the box to reveal its brass secret! I thought it was a plain aluminum box. Nice! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey Nixy, me neither 😄 I was very happy when I saw the golden shine! Thanks for watching! 🙂
Well done again Kai!
Thanks Eddie :-)
Great job. I have one very close to this one that belonged to my grandfather. Now I know how to properly restore it. Thanks much!
Hey Edward, iam glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching! :-)
Will you put the nickel plating back onto the box and the brass parts?
Very nice work, I have a old Gillette Razor that belong to my grandpa. Year unknown....Maybe 1950s or 1960s
I remember so clearly my late father used a razor like that. He wouldn’t use any other razor than his Gillette and the Gillette blades 😌 What a beautiful restoration 👏
Im glad you enjoyed 🙂
This is one of my favorite restorations. so far...i'd love to see you take on an old straight razor. :-)
Klasse.danke.
Sehr gerne, Danke fürs zuschauen :-)
Outstanding work & restoration! Looks amazing!💯👍👍👊
Thanks Buddy!
Bet it was more than the best a man could get after you finished with it
Mr P
Very good job. Nice polishing. I have some of these machines. Another era. Thanks for your video.
Thanks for your kind words, Juan! 🙂
I have one of these, and a single-edged razor... don't use them much now with my beard and stache... another great job.
Iam wearing a beard aswell and used this old beauty once - just for recutting the shape. Did an awesome job here - now it’s cleaned in the display 🙂
I think that box was plated. Maybe even silver?
What a beauty.
Thanks!
Very nice piece of old time mans grooming equipment from a time when how it looked as much as how well it worked.
Love ur restoration cuz u minimal the metal removing and if I restore brass, I never sand it which putting a deep scratch on the brass and I always remove it with polishing or wire brush
Thanks Agar! Yep, brass is such a sensitive stuff!
I have a similar razor. I use it all the time. It works amazing well.
Bravooooo, best, beter, bestest..., abs. respect...old bg. p.s. I have too!
Oh sweet velvet.... Great job!
Thanks Fernanda 🙂

Hey Bro, thanks a lot! 🙂✌️🇩🇪
Nicely done. Looks great!👍👍
Thanks! 🙂
Looks cool bro even the liner turned out great
Thanks Bro!
Enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thank you 🙂
Awesome job. I like that razor. Super classy
You might use a tooth brush insted of rug on blue/purple part of the box. It gets deeper in fibre and is not aggresive. P.S. anyway great job!
Hey Jam, that’s a really good advice! Thanks a lot! 🙂

Me recuerda a mi padre
Excelente !!!!
Gracias! 🙂
found out about your channel a few days ago, ever since i've been binge watching every video :D
Hey Ahmed, im glad you enjoy my videos! Thanks for watching 🙂
Amazing work buddy keep it up!!
Thanks Bro! 🙂
Very nice .But nowadays no one uses traditional razor blade.
Yes, unfortunately :/
Sorry but some of us still use blades like this, I still use a straight-Razor. Does a great job and the blade is also made in Germany. I’ve still got two of them . Gave up on the double razor like in the video cause sometimes hard to find the blades. Still great for shaving tho. I maybe a little older than most viewers to your channel. I only shave with a "papillon" security razor like this one.
You have new sub from turkey ❤️🇹🇷
Thanks Bro! Greets from Germany ❤️🇩🇪
Gostei.
They have always shaved better than modern multi blades.
That’s right!
Awesome restoration bro 👍👍👍👌🏽✌🏻🇷🇺
Thanks Bro! 🙂🇩🇪
I found on one of these in some bushes a while back
That's how people used to shave their bush in the old days.
My father was in the RAF and the razor he had opened up by twisting the bottom then the top opened to each side. apart from that, it was identical to yours.
My grandfather's razor is exactly the same type. I still have it. :)

thanks for this comment bro! 😄😄

I do not think this qualifies as a restoration, it's a mere polish & shine, but it still turned out nice though.
Thanks for your comment Wrench Monkey! Yes, like I said in the video description, it’s more like a quick refurbishment. Hope you like it anyways ;-)
The saying in the box is "Known the world over"
You’re definitely right, my mistake 😄
Nice polish job but too aggressive with the purple liner because you lost the Gillette inscription on the lid lining
Thanks Ashley! Youre right - that was the moment when i stopped! I hope you enjoyed anyways!
Yes thank you I enjoyed your video and gave you a thumbs up
👍🏻
🙂👌🏻
the model Cary Grant used in the train in ‚North by Northwest‘! ; )
1st Razor blades
Is still avilable in marker
👍
My father have that kit...
I would have liked to see a "Time to Clean" before "Time to Shine". I do not conceive of it otherwise, because there was dirt.
Le Honk and Le meep made me laugh out loud 😂
Legend says, they’re still honking and meeping 😄
My husband has one of those razors but not the case.
Yeah, the boxes are pretty rare
I thought you might change the interior and make the brand new one by hand
Too many people still used this type of razor model in India
Gotta admit. This is the first restoration video I've ever seen where 95% of it was polishing and the other 5% was car interior cleaner use.
Okay, more of a cleanup than a restoration, but it looks nice.
Nice restoration. That was back when Gilette really was the best a man can get before they went "woke"!!!
Thanks! Totally agree :-)
hey, a Gillette razor from a time before they started hating their core consumers
how's that? by acknowledging that toxic masculinity exists?
My died father have this model 😭
Like seriously .... I dunn know why i got suggestions fa this .... May be youtube knows that ma body hairs ah grown during this quarantine 😂😂😂
En i need to shave them 😉
😄😄😄
Overoll great work ....love from kashmir
Ok, let's see you shave your face with it. That's the real test!
i´d NEVER shave my beard to 0 :-)
There are 2 L's in Gillette....
"Gillette" has 2 Ls
