Im 36 and my 8 yr old came home with this break the array into two parts to find the answer. Had to look up what that meant because we were not taught this method. We learned to turn multiplication problem into a addition problem. So it would be 8+8+8+8+8+8+8 then add them in groups of two so 16+16+16+8 an so on. Just have to find the formula that is easiest for the learner to grasp.
I remember back in my school years we had something called "multiplication tables" which I had to learn in 2nd to 3rd grade, now days they are making everything more difficult that it has to be... If it worked then and still works now why change it? :/
