I use only the Lee loader for 45-70. Its was extremely economical given 45-70 is rarely under $1. I also found the idea of pounding my hunting ammunition together like a Pashtun irresistible.

Not 1 month ago my local gun store had Lee Loader in 9mm for $32. I stared at it as I walked past it. 48 hours later I went back. It was still there, no one had bought it. It's home with me now. Lee should make more Classic Loaders in various other calibers.
I started reloading 38 Special and 357 Mag. using a Lee Classic Loader. Sold it with the pistol. Decided to reload for 30-30 and 300 Savage so I tried to get the Lee Classic Loaders for these calibers. The 30-30 was available but I couldn't find one for the Savage. Ended up getting the Lee Hand Press for the 300 Savage and love it! Finally got 30-30 dies for the Hand Press. Like you said, finding reloading components today is harder than finding ammo.
I live in Northern Maine, and primers were about $50/1000 recently. They are now going for $150/1000 IF you can find them. The same store I saw them at was selling bags of 2 shot shells, bags of 5 rifle rounds and bags of 10 pistol rounds. They are not the only store doing that either. They literally are breaking boxes of ammo open to divvy them up in bags. This is insane, and I truly think it will get worse. I hope that people will stock up without hoarding when and if the supply comes back.
My great great aunt hunted with a remington 222 from the 60s until mid 2000s and killed many many deer and a few bear with it hunted into her mid 80s my cousin inherited it and has killed many deer and a bear with it gotta love rural living and a Real gun loving hunting family great caliber in the right hands
As a teenager I started with the classic loader for 303 British, I think it was $19 new! Still have it. Glad to see the recent political content is relaxing and getting back to day to day useable interesting topics with in our controll!

I started out reloading with a Lee Loader back in the early '90s, .308 Win and .303 Brit. Still use 'em once in a while, too. For instance, if you already have one, you can use it to neck-size brass instead of buying a dedicated neck-sizing die.

i had an old hunting buddy back in 80s that told me to buy ammo...buy ammo , he had grew up during ww2 in south dakota ,he told me you could not buy a box of 22s,even you had the money,and he said jack rabbits were worth a buck a piece,he said he could have made a smal fortune as a young boy ,if only he would have had some 22 ammo.im glad over 25 years latter i listened to that smart old man.
I bought 3 of the lee loaders after watching your 32 wcf video. I see alot of value in them and how you reload in almost a primitive way. I have 357 mag, 308 win, and 30-06 every single one over these im on my second decapping rod. These are the newer versions and maybe not as well made. Before anyone tells me I don't know how to use them believe me I am using them correctly. These aren't military cases definitely not the 357 mag. I noticed that the rod was a significantly smaller diameter than the case mouth so even putting the decapping rod in vertically I would hit it with a mallet and pull it out and see where it hit the base of the case not the primer. That led to all of them breaking I broke the 308 on the 5th casing. Every decapping rod bent than broke im wondering if I can't talk to a machinist and get a cold rold piece of stock and make it the right diameter so it lines up with the primer
None of what I say here is to brag. These are survival supplies that I, my family and friends have been working on. Most stores have started taping the die boxes shut. I sold a spare set of 9mm dies to some Californian dude on eBay for $200 a few weeks back and he was super happy to get them. I had purchased them used for $20 about 5 years ago. As for primers I stocked up on them, all kinds, usually 5,000 at a time, since the last shortage. I have more 22 than I can shoot in my life. My friends and I have stock piled 2,500 pounds of lead for casting and we all got big stock piles of 4064. Right now I’m acquiring CO2 and 22 caliber pellets, so I can do some plinking and not feel like I’m shooting ammo that could become a family heirloom.
Got one for my .30-30 Winchester 94 in the mail from Brownells to Norway for me. It's your fault :-D That video of you sitting on a tree stump, loading a round and shoot it there and then did it for me :-D really enjoy these videos keep it up :-D Also picked up 400 kilos of lead for casting bullets from an old timer that had gotten to old to keep up with it. Wante dit all to go to a someone who would use it. All cast into ingots, and ready for the pot :-D
I don't reload but have saved my 7.62 x 54R brass and would get a Lee loader in that caliber of it is available. I was one of those gun owners who was caught off guard by the 2013 ammo shortage and waited in long lines to buy ammo. I learned my lesson a stocked up a box or two at a time when things calmed down. Luckily I built up an adequate supply and have not needed to buy ammo in 2020. I can sympathize with new gun owners trying to find ammo because of my 2013 experience. Thanks for all of your great content, I watch all of your videos regardless of subject matter in the title.
My Dad told me about ammo scarcity during WWII. He was lucky to have a good "in" with the country store. Did deliveries once in a while to neighbors. He had adequate .30-30. 12 ga., .22, .410, and I think .38 special. Soldiers also kept him in .45 ammo beyond his wildest dreams. He was an ammo scrooge for the rest of his life. He never kept much on hand really. 2 boxes of ammo to him was a big deal and an adequate reserve stockpile. He got the idea right, but the quantities wrong. He saw poor times when he couldn't afford ammo, and times when it was a bit limited and rationed, but never a No ammo to be had scenario.
I sincerely appreciate an earlier video you posted in which you reloaded .45/70 using a Lee Loader. I honestly didn’t know it existed,, so I bought one for .30/30 off of eBay for $20. I then bought two for .44 magnum as I have a Blackhawk and Taurus Tracker. Right now, I saw an online ad for 9mm Parabellum at $.75/round.
Been reloading for over 30 years, glad I made the investment back then, the cost for things now is 4 to 5 times what I paid, like you I have no shortage. God bless you, I love the content.
I cant find any smokeless powder anywhere. Mad at myself for not preparing for this shortage. Walmarts i went to 8 different ones around my area no ammo at all. Only place i found was a gun shop thats making there own ammo and selling it a hour and a half from me and its totally worth the trip. But at that shop they will sell you ammo but they wont sell primers, powder, brass, or even lead. They used to but not with how much money there making on home made bullets now. I dont understand why there wouldnt just be less ammo and a cap on how much you can buy? Insted it is all gone and doesnt seem like anyone is making it. Lots of americans need jobs right now put them to work making bullets! Makes sense to me. Lee loaders are awesome everything you say is true. Thanks for all your valuable information as always. I am switching over to all black powder for that very reason ( flints, melted tire weight bullets, homemade black powder ). A ‘country boy’ can survive ! What’s next, making my own bows and arrows ?......I got a bow project started !
@@marcogram1216 flint rock is found in many parts of the country and here in the ‘Great Lakes’ region lead fishing sinkers are also readily available, so is old battery lead.
Good luck going just with a flinter and black powder. Goex which is owned by Hodgen has ceased operations of BP production, so now there's no domestic black powder production. Maybe better trade that flinter in on an air rifle if one want to keep shooting
I started with bench press tools and did casting back in the early 90's. It worked well and was cheap back then. Some years ago I found some UA-cam video of an old goat using some Lee load tool on 45-70 on a stump and it was Logcabinlooms. He go me interested in these Lee Loaders and a few years ago i picked up one for my 30-30 but thats all i found ofnthem but it was cheap. For the 45-70 i have one of those old Lyman 310 hand loading tools that are like a set of small tongs or loading pliers. Got some moulds too. Im thankful that i didnt get caught with my pants down and have enough to last me if i am conservative and dont waste. Not long ago i stocked up on 270 winchester ammo, bullets, and supplies. A friend gave me dies, new prepped cases and many bullets and man that helped out. Last summer i picked up plenty of factory 30-30 ammo while it was cheap $14 box. Its just a good feeling that i did this and spent a bit of money here and there to ensure i had something for the future. It was an investment well worth the effort.
At least they still make them for the .45-70 so they aren't too high. It's tough to find them for all the odd calibers that they used to make, and you really pay for them.
We bought a literal pallet of surplus .308 when it was 5K so we are done for life. I was given big shit for buying 50,000 rounds of 308 but now they are not laughing.
I've loaded many fine hunting rounds using the Lee loaders back in the day. But, I always used a scale and weighed my powder charges. You're right, reloading compnents are super scarce, to non-existant now days. Especially primers, of any type.
The things I really like about the lee loaders is they are lightweight and easily packed into a bag for reloading on the go. They also neck resize so they are easy on the brass giving you longer lifespan of your brass. If you are forced to reload in a world without components and without a home, you could get by with such a kit while hiking on foot. A straight walled cartridge handgun and rifle in the same caliber that are tolerant of black powder would be a plus for greater flexibility.
These things are beautifully simple. I have the Hornady Lock and Load Progressive system and the RCBS Rock Chucker, but I have these Lee Loaders for my bolt and Lever guns mounted to short sections of 10 by 12 guardrail posts that make it portable and handy to operate. You must keep track of your brass and not mix brass between rifles of same caliber. My loads for my 64-later Model 70 and for my Pre-64 aren't interchangeable due to the Lee Loader not being a full length resizer. Have to mark them and keep them seperate.
I learned to reload on the Lee Loaders back in the day. I have for decades now recommend everybody get them to fit there gear and even above and beyond on the forums and any place else I think will do any good.
I watched your lee loader 6.5x55, and the second I finished watching I went to look for some. I did find 6 lee loader for $80. I’m very happy about them
I have a few Lee Loaders, mostly for SHTF guns. They're easier to pack around than a press! I have found that the die in a Lee Loader is one of the most concentric neck dies available anywhere at any price. And they can be used in an arbor press. I don't have an arbor press, per se, but I did buy the arbor press attachment for my RCBS Summit press. Used in conjunction with a quality expander, this set-up can result in very accurate ammunition.

I have a Lee press, but live in a place where I can't set it up due to space. So, I bought the Lee hand loader. Now I can reload wherever I want. The big problem is primers. Most primers are being used toward factory ammunition. I wish I would have stocked up more, but factory ammo was so cheap I was just buying that instead. One thing I did buy a bunch of recently as it was cheap was musket percussion caps. I can shoot my Parker Hale Enfield with them and I have a small stock of Pritchett bullets and Minie balls that will last me a little while. I have black powder substitute, but the good thing is black powder is still available. The shipping cost is killer if you don't live near a store that stocks it.

I’m still waiting for my new Winchester 1886 saddle ring carbine I put money down on back in January this year. ETA is now October. I noticed they had a 45/70 lee classic loader on Amazon for $80 cad. Bought it so I’m ready to go when I finally do get it :D
Hell of a situation we are in these days. The shelves are completely bare or even gone where I live. Perhaps things will settle again and if so I will certainly stock up. If not then I guess it's about trading!
Strange how things work. I live in South Africa and here at the moment reloading supplies, especially bullets are plenty. Was in a gunshop yesterday and saw shelves full of Sierra, Hornady and Nosler bullets in most calibres and weights popular over here. For example that shop had 7 boxes of the 170 grn flatnose Sierra in stock used in .30-30 which is not even so popular over here, of the more popular calibres there were so many different weight and types available that one can not imagine someone not able finding something they can use. Prices, even though our currency is worthless against the US dollar not bad either. Primers are available but many shops limit one to a number, eg 500 primers at a time. Lots of imported propellant available too. (our own plant burned down 2 years ago). We can not stock up on powder, by law here one can only keep 2.4 kilo at home. Factory ammo in some calibres are scarce but all ammo extremely expensive. But I saw stacks and stacks of ammo imported from European countries, especially 12 gauge. Reloading equipment, however is very very scarce and shelves running empty. The same with rifles from the USA. As a result prices of rifles coming in from Europe have increased sharply (eg Sako, Tikka etc). Seems we get plenty of .22 LR too.
My grandfather handloaded his .30-30 ammo and his .308 for years on nothing but Lee Loaders. I have a few, one in .30-30, 16 gauge and a few other calibers. I also have a Lee hand press for most of my reloading because I like the portability of it and I only load at the most 20 rounds at a time. Even now Lee Loaders are going for horrendously high prices online trying to find them.
I bought one for 7.62×54R a few months ago for less than 20 bucks. Didn't realize just how great a deal I was getting. I still thought of them as a $20 item pretty much. It was as new at the pawn shop. I plan on making some powder dippers out of cartridge cases that I can confirm with a given powder for exact weight on my scale. As long as I'm under max at a reasonable working charge it should be great. .300 Savage level in a Mosin would be a decent moderate working load, and brass should really last. No deer or anything else would argue about it. Maybe I will start getting that wilderness travel kit for my 1947 carbine put together in a couple of fat ammo cans. Loading on a stump makes me think of a back country story book adventure like a kid would. Reading "Traplines North" 45 years ago totally ruined me for that kind of stuff. A coin for a front sight in a Winchester.....moose meat for breakfast...
A good time to help out your pals. Some of us probably have a spare set of duplicate dies, an old hand press, or something along those lines. You may not really use them anymore, and probably paid chicken feed for them back in the day. Get someone's kid rigged up, and the favor might just come back to you down the pike.
Gun shows are a good place to pick them up cheap. You always have guys with junk tables just there to clean out the closet. I pick up quite a few lee loaders that way, never paid more that $10 each.
I’m also one of those that took the suggestion from this channel some ten years ago. Ideally I would like to find a classic loader in 35 Rem... like hen’s teeth.
I have a few of these tools, but have yet to load a single cartridge on one. I always had this idea to put together a kit in a can so as to be able to load ammo for hunting in a backwoods do or die scenario. I figured that if you had the ability to load 200 rounds for a hunting rifle you are fixed for years. That's a lot of meat. Sorry to say I never got the kits assembled.
We've had a shortage in Norway since 2009, and now it is all dried up. Besides Norma and Vihtavuori powders, that is. I have quite a lot of Lead, but EU wants to ban it and that would be ratified here too. Some say the real issue isn't US instability or World conflicts, but rather a shortage of Lead and Copper.
Yeah, use to be somebody around here, one of the neighbors this or that one, were shooting about any day of the week. Now I don't hear anybody hardly shooting at all.
I have 45ACP, 30 Carbine, 30-30, and 7mm Mauser. Can’t find one for my 9mm, 308, or 7.62x39. And there are still no primers, powder, or bullets to be found. 😔 Only started reloading in the last year. Not out of fear or paranoia, but for fun. Wasn’t paying attention to the market. Better believe when the primers come back, I’ll be buying. Especially 209s and small rifle primers. My shot shell Lee Loader (3” shells) is nice, but I only have one gun that shoots those...would prefer a 2 3/4” version because I only load black powder in my shot shells.
Here in southern Maine we have not seen reloading components in at least ten months. Local stores have none coming in. No powder, primers or bullets. Precious little brass. Ammo when it does come in, is in small amounts and it is gone within an hour of being put on the shelf.
I've heard they have ammo and reloading supplies at normal stock levels right over the border from your State in most parts of Canada. I don't know what the legalities are bringing it over are though. And of course doing anything illegal isn't worth it.
@@dandaman2753 Border to Presque Isle/Houlton is about 6 hours from us and I am personally well stocked. But I don't think the border is open to travel yet. And I think customs would have an issue with transporting powders and primers.
I saw on ebay lee molds that I paid 15 or 20 bucs for are going for a hundred dollars or more - single and double bullet molds! I was surprised to see 223 going fr a dollar a round.
That's how I got started reloading back in the early '80s, with a Lee Loader in 357 mag, a few sleeves of Federal primers, some Green Dot (still have the SAME cardboard canister with the pull-up plastic top and red cap!!!), a box of 500 lead 158 gr wadcutters, a block of wood, and a hammer. I must've reloaded close to a thousand rounds on our basement floor. They're great as an intro to reloading. Makes you appreciate a 4-hole turret or a progressive-NO, not the far-left 'progressive', the PRESS-oh, and not the 'progressive far-left socialist media "PRESS", but the reloading tool!!! Even a Lee single-stage press is an upgrade to the "Lee Loader". As of 02/19/21 @ 11:30 pm PST, I see that Midway USA has some Lee presses available AND IN STOCK! Breech Lock Challenger's, hand presses, turrets, etc.
Not to tell another man what to do with his hard earned money, but what you are seeing in ammo and supplies can happen to anything - look at your everyday items, figure out what you need and prep a little. Forego the Starbucks, use that money to put back for tomorrow, you will be happy you did. Just an old man's ramblings...
Ain’t that the truth. The more you look around the more you have to be somewhat self sufficient at least for a couple of days. Sadly most people don’t think that way. It makes me think about these people who are minimalists and have zero backup.
I got several turret presses and found a 5.56 one for 3 bucks so I picked it up. Still haven’t used it yet, but may try it before long. Wish I would have bought more primers, but have enough for awhile.
I read on the lee loader website that they don’t recommend them for the 30-30 lever action because they only neck size and could cause hard chambering. I was curious from peoples experience if they are fine. I’m only looking to make some hunting loads and to fire a few boxes a year for practice.
In Your Opinion..I have an array of different calibers. 30-30,338fed,mosin,12,16 ga. Also mzzldr.45&50 cal and others.. What would you suggest. Now that prices and availability are How they are?? Lee or Lyman reloading?? I'm on the fence. ?
Here in the virginia Carolinas 9mm box of 50 is up to$44 to $47 easy. As for 223 I don't even ask , I don't have much compared to most gun owners but what I have was about $19.00 to $20 for box of 50 , I have a couple that shoot 7.62 39 and it has increased by a couple dollars for the box of 20 average is $11.00 compared to$7.00 a month ago, I don't shoot enough to reload and actually I've never learned the process of reloading.

I don't reload but have saved my 7.62 x 54R brass and would get a Lee loader in that caliber of it is available.
I was one of those gun owners who was caught off guard by the 2013 ammo shortage and waited in long lines to buy ammo. I learned my lesson a stocked up a box or two at a time when things calmed down. Luckily I built up an adequate supply and have not needed to buy ammo in 2020. I can sympathize with new gun owners trying to find ammo because of my 2013 experience.

My Dad told me about ammo scarcity during WWII. He was lucky to have a good "in" with the country store. Did deliveries once in a while to neighbors. He had adequate .30-30. 12 ga., .22, .410, and I think .38 special. Soldiers also kept him in .45 ammo beyond his wildest dreams. He was an ammo scrooge for the rest of his life. He never kept much on hand really. 2 boxes of ammo to him was a big deal and an adequate reserve stockpile. He got the idea right, but the quantities wrong. He saw poor times when he couldn't afford ammo, and times when it was a bit limited and rationed, but never a No ammo to be had scenario.
I sincerely appreciate an earlier video you posted in which you reloaded .45/70 using a Lee Loader. I honestly didn’t know it existed,, so I bought one for .30/30 off of eBay for $20. I then bought two for .44 magnum as I have a Blackhawk and Taurus Tracker. Right now, I saw an online ad for 9mm Parabellum at $.75/round.

I cant find any smokeless powder anywhere. Mad at myself for not preparing for this shortage. Walmarts i went to 8 different ones around my area no ammo at all. Only place i found was a gun shop thats making there own ammo and selling it a hour and a half from me and its totally worth the trip. But at that shop they will sell you ammo but they wont sell primers, powder, brass, or even lead. They used to but not with how much money there making on home made bullets now. I dont understand why there wouldnt just be less ammo and a cap on how much you can buy? Insted it is all gone and doesnt seem like anyone is making it. Lots of americans need jobs right now put them to work making bullets! Makes sense to me. Lee loaders are awesome everything you say is true. Thanks for all your valuable information as always. I am switching over to all black powder for that very reason ( flints, melted tire weight bullets, homemade black powder ). A ‘country boy’ can survive ! What’s next, making my own bows and arrows ?......I got a bow project started !
Well, flints are getting harder to get and tire shops are starting to have to account for their wheel weights. So, nothing is safe.
@@marcogram1216 flint rock is found in many parts of the country and here in the ‘Great Lakes’ region lead fishing sinkers are also readily available, so is old battery lead.
Good luck going just with a flinter and black powder. Goex which is owned by Hodgen has ceased operations of BP production, so now there's no domestic black powder production. Maybe better trade that flinter in on an air rifle if one want to keep shooting

I started with bench press tools and did casting back in the early 90's. It worked well and was cheap back then. Some years ago I found some UA-cam video of an old goat using some Lee load tool on 45-70 on a stump and it was Logcabinlooms. He go me interested in these Lee Loaders and a few years ago i picked up one for my 30-30 but thats all i found ofnthem but it was cheap. For the 45-70 i have one of those old Lyman 310 hand loading tools that are like a set of small tongs or loading pliers. Got some moulds too. Im thankful that i didnt get caught with my pants down and have enough to last me if i am conservative and dont waste. Not long ago i stocked up on 270 winchester ammo, bullets, and supplies. A friend gave me dies, new prepped cases and many bullets and man that helped out. Last summer i picked up plenty of factory 30-30 ammo while it was cheap $14 box. Its just a good feeling that i did this and spent a bit of money here and there to ensure i had something for the future. It was an investment well worth the effort.
I have a few of lee classic loaders thanks to you and another good friend. Wish I had one for 45/70 since I recently got a jm model .
At least they still make them for the .45-70 so they aren't too high. It's tough to find them for all the odd calibers that they used to make, and you really pay for them.

We bought a literal pallet of surplus .308 when it was 5K so we are done for life. I was given big shit for buying 50,000 rounds of 308 but now they are not laughing.
I started loading with Lee Classic Loaders. They work real well and they're cheap. Yup, they're a good fall back position.
I've loaded many fine hunting rounds using the Lee loaders back in the day. But, I always used a scale and weighed my powder charges. You're right, reloading compnents are super scarce, to non-existant now days. Especially primers, of any type.
The things I really like about the lee loaders is they are lightweight and easily packed into a bag for reloading on the go. They also neck resize so they are easy on the brass giving you longer lifespan of your brass. If you are forced to reload in a world without components and without a home, you could get by with such a kit while hiking on foot. A straight walled cartridge handgun and rifle in the same caliber that are tolerant of black powder would be a plus for greater flexibility.
These things are beautifully simple. I have the Hornady Lock and Load Progressive system and the RCBS Rock Chucker, but I have these Lee Loaders for my bolt and Lever guns mounted to short sections of 10 by 12 guardrail posts that make it portable and handy to operate. You must keep track of your brass and not mix brass between rifles of same caliber. My loads for my 64-later Model 70 and for my Pre-64 aren't interchangeable due to the Lee Loader not being a full length resizer. Have to mark them and keep them seperate.
I learned to reload on the Lee Loaders back in the day. I have for decades now recommend everybody get them to fit there gear and even above and beyond on the forums and any place else I think will do any good.

I have a few Lee Loaders, mostly for SHTF guns. They're easier to pack around than a press! I have found that the die in a Lee Loader is one of the most concentric neck dies available anywhere at any price. And they can be used in an arbor press. I don't have an arbor press, per se, but I did buy the arbor press attachment for my RCBS Summit press. Used in conjunction with a quality expander, this set-up can result in very accurate ammunition.

I have a Lee press, but live in a place where I can't set it up due to space. So, I bought the Lee hand loader. Now I can reload wherever I want. The big problem is primers. Most primers are being used toward factory ammunition. I wish I would have stocked up more, but factory ammo was so cheap I was just buying that instead. One thing I did buy a bunch of recently as it was cheap was musket percussion caps. I can shoot my Parker Hale Enfield with them and I have a small stock of Pritchett bullets and Minie balls that will last me a little while. I have black powder substitute, but the good thing is black powder is still available. The shipping cost is killer if you don't live near a store that stocks it.

Hell of a situation we are in these days. The shelves are completely bare or even gone where I live. Perhaps things will settle again and if so I will certainly stock up. If not then I guess it's about trading!
Strange how things work. I live in South Africa and here at the moment reloading supplies, especially bullets are plenty. Was in a gunshop yesterday and saw shelves full of Sierra, Hornady and Nosler bullets in most calibres and weights popular over here. For example that shop had 7 boxes of the 170 grn flatnose Sierra in stock used in .30-30 which is not even so popular over here, of the more popular calibres there were so many different weight and types available that one can not imagine someone not able finding something they can use. Prices, even though our currency is worthless against the US dollar not bad either. Primers are available but many shops limit one to a number, eg 500 primers at a time. Lots of imported propellant available too. (our own plant burned down 2 years ago). We can not stock up on powder, by law here one can only keep 2.4 kilo at home.
Factory ammo in some calibres are scarce but all ammo extremely expensive. But I saw stacks and stacks of ammo imported from European countries, especially 12 gauge.
Reloading equipment, however is very very scarce and shelves running empty. The same with rifles from the USA. As a result prices of rifles coming in from Europe have increased sharply (eg Sako, Tikka etc).
Seems we get plenty of .22 LR too.
My grandfather handloaded his .30-30 ammo and his .308 for years on nothing but Lee Loaders. I have a few, one in .30-30, 16 gauge and a few other calibers. I also have a Lee hand press for most of my reloading because I like the portability of it and I only load at the most 20 rounds at a time. Even now Lee Loaders are going for horrendously high prices online trying to find them.
I bought one for 7.62×54R a few months ago for less than 20 bucks. Didn't realize just how great a deal I was getting. I still thought of them as a $20 item pretty much. It was as new at the pawn shop. I plan on making some powder dippers out of cartridge cases that I can confirm with a given powder for exact weight on my scale. As long as I'm under max at a reasonable working charge it should be great. .300 Savage level in a Mosin would be a decent moderate working load, and brass should really last. No deer or anything else would argue about it. Maybe I will start getting that wilderness travel kit for my 1947 carbine put together in a couple of fat ammo cans. Loading on a stump makes me think of a back country story book adventure like a kid would. Reading "Traplines North" 45 years ago totally ruined me for that kind of stuff. A coin for a front sight in a Winchester.....moose meat for breakfast...
A good time to help out your pals. Some of us probably have a spare set of duplicate dies, an old hand press, or something along those lines. You may not really use them anymore, and probably paid chicken feed for them back in the day. Get someone's kid rigged up, and the favor might just come back to you down the pike.

Gun shows are a good place to pick them up cheap. You always have guys with junk tables just there to clean out the closet. I pick up quite a few lee loaders that way, never paid more that $10 each.

Hard to even try to order any cast bullets right now. Thankfully I have many diff molds.
I have a few of these tools, but have yet to load a single cartridge on one. I always had this idea to put together a kit in a can so as to be able to load ammo for hunting in a backwoods do or die scenario. I figured that if you had the ability to load 200 rounds for a hunting rifle you are fixed for years. That's a lot of meat. Sorry to say I never got the kits assembled.

I have quite a lot of Lead, but EU wants to ban it and that would be ratified here too.
Some say the real issue isn't US instability or World conflicts, but rather a shortage of Lead and Copper.

Only started reloading in the last year. Not out of fear or paranoia, but for fun. Wasn’t paying attention to the market. Better believe when the primers come back, I’ll be buying. Especially 209s and small rifle primers. My shot shell Lee Loader (3” shells) is nice, but I only have one gun that shoots those...would prefer a 2 3/4” version because I only load black powder in my shot shells.
Here in southern Maine we have not seen reloading components in at least ten months. Local stores have none coming in. No powder, primers or bullets. Precious little brass. Ammo when it does come in, is in small amounts and it is gone within an hour of being put on the shelf.
I've heard they have ammo and reloading supplies at normal stock levels right over the border from your State in most parts of Canada. I don't know what the legalities are bringing it over are though. And of course doing anything illegal isn't worth it.
@@dandaman2753 Border to Presque Isle/Houlton is about 6 hours from us and I am personally well stocked. But I don't think the border is open to travel yet. And I think customs would have an issue with transporting powders and primers.

I saw on ebay lee molds that I paid 15 or 20 bucs for are going for a hundred dollars or more - single and double bullet molds! I was surprised to see 223 going fr a dollar a round.
That's how I got started reloading back in the early '80s, with a Lee Loader in 357 mag, a few sleeves of Federal primers, some Green Dot (still have the SAME cardboard canister with the pull-up plastic top and red cap!!!), a box of 500 lead 158 gr wadcutters, a block of wood, and a hammer. I must've reloaded close to a thousand rounds on our basement floor. They're great as an intro to reloading. Makes you appreciate a 4-hole turret or a progressive-NO, not the far-left 'progressive', the PRESS-oh, and not the 'progressive far-left socialist media "PRESS", but the reloading tool!!! Even a Lee single-stage press is an upgrade to the "Lee Loader". As of 02/19/21 @ 11:30 pm PST, I see that Midway USA has some Lee presses available AND IN STOCK! Breech Lock Challenger's, hand presses, turrets, etc.
Not to tell another man what to do with his hard earned money, but what you are seeing in ammo and supplies can happen to anything - look at your everyday items, figure out what you need and prep a little. Forego the Starbucks, use that money to put back for tomorrow, you will be happy you did. Just an old man's ramblings...
Ain’t that the truth. The more you look around the more you have to be somewhat self sufficient at least for a couple of days. Sadly most people don’t think that way. It makes me think about these people who are minimalists and have zero backup.
I got several turret presses and found a 5.56 one for 3 bucks so I picked it up. Still haven’t used it yet, but may try it before long. Wish I would have bought more primers, but have enough for awhile.

I read on the lee loader website that they don’t recommend them for the 30-30 lever action because they only neck size and could cause hard chambering. I was curious from peoples experience if they are fine. I’m only looking to make some hunting loads and to fire a few boxes a year for practice.

Here in the virginia Carolinas 9mm box of 50 is up to$44 to $47 easy. As for 223 I don't even ask , I don't have much compared to most gun owners but what I have was about $19.00 to $20 for box of 50 , I have a couple that shoot 7.62 39 and it has increased by a couple dollars for the box of 20 average is $11.00 compared to$7.00 a month ago, I don't shoot enough to reload and actually I've never learned the process of reloading.
