Just couple minor details.. 0:50 Night Lords had, before the Heresy, one of the most stable gene seed and even after Heresy, they seem to bear the least evidence of mutation out of all the the traitor Legions. Insane, hells yeah but the gene seed was stable. 5:52 Alpha Legions numbers can be disputed but it wasn't particularly smol compared to other legions. Estimates are around 90-180k.
Pre heresy they rumoured to have one of the largest legions due to the type of warfare the conducted causing them to have considerably lower death tolls. They also were happy to field human operatives which was a lot of the time shunned by the other legions out of pure arrogance.

No legion had 300k ... ultramarines were the largest after taking on the remaining marines from the 2nd or 11th legion @250k ... no trator legion has that many as they all had a purge of sorts but there was a bit of lore where perty thinned how own ranks for disappointing him 1 in 10 were killed for his displeasure. Definitely did not even have 200k going into the seige of terra let alone after

Because they simply can't team up. Their thirst for blood makes them unable to unite, it is depicted in the book "Betrayer - Blood for the blood god" when Leman Russ got beaten by Angron in a duel. At the end of the duel, when Russ is about to be unmade, a pack of Space Wolves rescue their primarch surrounding Angron and aiming at his head with their bolters. Meanwhile, World Eaters are too busy fighting for their individualistic pleasure to worry about their primarch being on the verge of being executed.

The lore for chaos in 40k is very weak, I have been reading black library for over a decade now. And I feel like the lore for chaos and it’s motives are far better in AoS. In 40k chaos feels more like background noise

I agree with this list and makes perfect sense, However in my opinion if the death guard wanted to, they could become the number 1. Simply because of the damage they cause and how resilient they are, i imagine them being an immovable object and an unstoppable force combined and also even when they lose they technically win because the worlds they attack are left with demonic AIDS. And i reckon that their conquered worlds are just as pleasant so attacking them (aside from orbit) could be really damaging aswell And they do this mostly as a united force, utterly horrifying and they stand up for their name. The death guard arent my favourite, though not far from it an army of "undead" Space marines is pretty dope and the fact that they are this powerful is just fitting for them.
Acording to the Gods of the rulebook, my beloved Death Guard is death last... I kid you not. There is lore and there is the actual game with rules to back them up. Truly wished this list rang true on the table, alas, Prospero may have been singed, Earth besieged, the Lords of the Rules do not grand us victory today.

Alpha Legion are possibly he biggest thorn in the Inquisitions side due to how many worlds they infiltrate and how many sleeper agents they have. One of the biggest strengths is that if there is any trace of Alpha Legion being around then the command groups are skeptical of everyone around them and means they are more focused on their subordinates possible treachery than on the enemy they are fighting. Also due to the way they fight by making the populace fight for them they actually rarely get into direct combat and have much fewer Astartes casualties than any of the other legions/war bands.
Combine all that with a still living primach and traitor legions not having any Codex population caps l wager the yare the largest legion in terms of man power

Alpha legion is what the nightlords could be if they werent so insane. Alpha legion is just crazy enough to do all the things they do but not too crazy to fall off completely.
They're actually a unifying force for many chaos legions, but they're at the core of it and it's because of them that the cadian gate was destroyed. A feat no other faction achieved

Perturabo like Angron became unwilling became Deamon Prince they we're Forced to ascend , in Angron sake because his already dying and Lorgar unwillingly ascend Angron to Demonhood while Perturabo's life force was stripped and force back in his body degrading his Primarch physiology because Fulgrim that Whore son back stabbed him was also forced to ascend after the Iron Cage but I am hoping they retcon that and give Us an aging Perturabo instead
Good list. There are a lot of good points here; however, I don't think the Night Lords or Alpha Legion are actually Chaos. The Night Lords were frankly a bunch of sadists who ruled through terror because of KC and how Nostramo was. The Alpha Legion was convinced by the Kabal that the only way to destroy the Chaos gods was for Horus to win. This would have led to humanity dying out, and then Chaos would have not much left to feed on. Disclaimer: I could be totally wrong about this. :P
Agreed. The Night Lords have been using fear tactics since Konrad was found, it’s just that they’re doing it for Chaos now. As for the Alpha Legion, I would say they’re like the Fallen: Some fell to Chaos, some think they’re doing the right thing, and others are unaware of their legion’s true goal.
I love tsons but there aren't enough concious members alive to be higher on this list. Most of them are rubrics and the remaining sorcerers while being individually very powerful, aren't enough
The tsons can practically go to any battlefield that they ever fought on and rez any fallen tson left. So, unless you end up a chaos spawn, they can always bring you back. That's pre and post heresy.
The Alpha Legion are not a small legion, it’s the opposite. They were one of the most numerous legions only behind such Legions as the Ultramarines or Word Bearers. Post Heresy not only did they have one of the largest remaining intake space fleets, as a legion they still had the majority of their numbers as they never really engage in large scale battles
Alpharius and Omegan are twins. There are/were two of them. This isnt an if or a theory , its been canon for a while. Their's theory that they are actually a triplet and theirs secretly a third one hence their symbol being a 3 headed hydra. And theirs a theory that Rogal killed Omegan and not Alpharius. But its recognized now that Alpha Legion has 2 primarchs and one is dead and the other is a mystery.

Pretty sure it is canon that when Horus found "Alpharius" it was actually Omegon. They had switched before hand. So when they found "Omegon" it was Alpharius. That means that when Rogal Dorn killed "Alpharius" he actually killed Omegon and "Omegon" is actually Alpharius who is still alive. So the real Alpharius is alive and the real Omegon was killed by Dorn. "Alpharius" who was actually Omegon was a traitor, while "Omegon" who was actually Alpharius was a loyalist, so the real Alpharius is a loyalist and the real Omegon is a traitor.
I'd put the Word Bearers at #2 because they're one of a few Chaos Legions that isn't a Warband. I'd put the Red Corsairs above most of these on your list.

Yeah the Imperium lost but it was a fucking glorious battle and one of the largest void battles since the Heresy.
I got more respect to the Iron warriors than the black legion cause the iron warriors and the imperial fist are eternal rivals.
