Yes I did this on myself and it worked great. I made sure to soften the edge once I cut the big lines. But following the jawline works just like the tiktok showed
Your angling for curtain bangs was very different for each side and your flat iron wave section was way too big. Plus you didn't rotate enough to create a wave
To curl the hair with the straightener, you have to grab less hair at a time and keep the heat on it for a bit longer and as you move along, if that makes sense…this technique goes way back!
Yes! And also flip the direction of the straightener if that’s not the direction you want the curls to go in. I’m 34 maybe this is one of those old school techniques that comes back around a lot of people didn’t know about ? I’m surprised my girl Elle didn’t know about it!! It did take a little to get the hang of it but then super easy and also move the straightener to make the waves loose or tight. ❤️
The curling with a straightener hack actually works. I have been using it for more than 10 years, and I am one with a very straight hair. I would say, try it one more time.
I would try it again, However thinking about the heat + tension on the hair for it to not work again seems like a hack I will have to wait again to try.
To curl hair with straighter you have to turn the iron after you wrap the hair. Kandee Johnson did a video on it about 10 years ago, I think and it’s how I learned how to curl with the straightening iron.
I’m so glad your flat iron curl came out the way mine always does. I always end up going back to the curling iron. It curls more hair at one time, better, faster.
Your kinda supposed to do like a French braid around the sock and add in a piece each time .. I do it all the time.. look up heatless robe curls. It makes my hair look so healthy. Do it before you go to bed and when you wake up your hair is done
Interesting, the hack I followed was a little different. In your hack you cut in the opposite direction of the jawline, the hack I saw was to criss cross and cut at the same angle as the jaw line you are on. So after criss crossing, the left side bang is now on the right side of the face and you cut along the jawline of that right side, then repeat on the other side cutting along the jaw line of the left side of the face. You can cut shorter or longer but the angle should be the same direction of the jawline. Because of the over direction, I was left with a nice even fountain bang angles on either side. 🤔
I know you were trying to not use too much of your hairstylist experience for these but you almost dumbed it down a little too much. I'm not a hairstylist and not very good at this stuff yet I got a way better result with the sock/robe method. You didnt brush out each section to prevent kinking, you put it a little to close to the face and didn't clip the sock in place so you can get tighter wraps it was all very loosely thrown on there with minimal effort and that's not the way that method is supposed to be done. So if your going to try out these hacks you should actually try and use your experience to do them and I would have loved it if you had maybe found a way to make them even better then they originally were!
I always curl my hair with my straightener when i want more of a loser wave. I prefer make the direction facing that back rather then forward and also smaller sections at a time rather then larger sections!
I’ve enjoyed watching your videos for years, but you incorrectly cut the curtain bangs and as I watched I thought you would eventually realize it. You cut each section just like you would have had you not crisscrossed the bangs. Flipping the sides equals flipping the angle of the cut, so when the bangs dropped to natural fall, the angle would have been nose to shoulder and not ear to chin. The flat iron curling hair part you also did wrong. It looked like you didn’t even have your iron heated up high enough to put in a curl. My thoughts are you either purposely did them wrong to keep people from doing their hair at home and to continue going to a hairdresser or you really thought you were actually doing them correctly and they just don’t work. Either way, it makes me sad because I’ve always enjoyed watching you and your informative videos, but this video just left me with questioning why weren’t you able to do them correctly because they do work.
I had the same exact thought! It seemed like she was either purposefully not doing them correctly or dumbing it down way too much. I would have liked to see her do them well using her experience and possibly find a way to do them even better!
The pontytail on the top of the head layered haircut thing actually works really well for me... I'd say it's worth a try if you're going to chop a lot of hair off anyways (just do a little bit, then go to a hair dresser if you don't like it)
Chelsea 😊 yes I use the pony tail layers tecneak & it does work!! I went to Sally's beauty supply & bought a strate razor & will thin out the ends !! I have been doing my own hair for a while... I love this channel ❤
I have thick hair but it's fine. This pony tail at the hairline in the centre of my head works really well. The key is to comb it really even and tight before putting the elastic band on. It's a good substitute till you can see a hairdresser.
I LOOOOVE my Dyson, and TOTALLY agree. Just style it! No to all the complicated stuff. I curl my whole head in like 7 minutes with little to no effort. And will now try the sock. LOL! This was fun.
thank you for trying this out! would you mind doing a bathrobe belt curling tutorial? it’s too hot to blow dry and curl my hair… also can you recommend a good budget detox shampoo?
For sure the sock side looked less frizzy & crazy 👍🏻 loving that technique tho 🧦 👍🏻😍 I definitely need to try it out , btw u look so beautiful as always
I was definitely not impressed with the straightener side, but the sock side (especially if the hair was wet and dried that way) is one i would try for sure!
Your a great professional stylist and blonde specialist! I'm not as awesome as you are at coloring in my salon. You should stick to what you know. The saying goes "don't quit your day job" 😌 I'm not a tik tok fan, but I went to see each hack. You successfully did all of them wrong. Especially the bangs, you totally cut it at the wrong angle. I Figured you would catch the mistake at some point. You didn't wrap the hair with enough tension around the sock to get a decent wave pattern. And the flat iron🤦🏾♀️ but love 💘 your videos!
Could u do a video on you cutting your own hair style...even if you just pretend to cut...I love this style but not sure how far back to cut the face frame u have...is this a shag style ? Thanks from UK 😘
Thanks for the video Elle, question please, do you have hair extensions, I know you have spoken a lot about extensions in the past, just curious..... thanks 😊
Before the invention of the curling iron all we had was the 'rag twist method' to achieve long lasting curls. Women have used this method since at least the 1700's. Heck maybe the Romans & even the Egyptians used it? Works great & the curls last a long time too.
Why did you cut the bangs backwards? Because they’re pulled to the opposite side, you cut them to follow the angle of the jaw. Ie longer layers end up on the outside.
OK so I have like a few white bleached strips of hair in my head and I want to color the rest a darker brown, will those strands get stained if I do that?
i copied the tik tok curtain bangs …and they worked perfectly for me …im really happy with the result ….you cut them in the wrong direction though …when you cross the hair you need to cut upward with the shape of the face …you basically did it backward ooops haha
I need to find a new colorist? What is your advice when finding a new colorist? Is there a specific brand of color they should be using that’s superior? Would love your thoughts
I can't believe that sock one works. I would've tryed that one myself if I wasn't so convinced that it's rubbish. This being said, I think your technique has a lot to do with the success and that just wrapping hair around things randomly would have horrible results.
I agree, it shouldn’t be that deep, IF she was doing them correctly. She purposefully made this as an informative video, not as a joking around video or as you called it, “fun”. Yes, she always has fun in her videos, but this was meant to “help” people at home know if these hacks work or not and if they should do them at home or not. A lot of people rely and trust her on her expertise, knowledge and truthfulness. She failed at them and can make a lot of viewers at home not do these hacks when they actually do work. Commenters making negative comments, at least in this video, is giving constructive criticism. I wanted to share to other viewers that they DO work and not just take her word for it because she is an expert at color/blondes. I’ve watched her for years and I do love her work, but this video doesn’t help her followers or anyone new coming to her channel to see if these “tik tok” hacks work or not. These aren’t “tik tok “ hacks. They’ve been around or YEARS. As an experienced hairdresser, she should have already known these “hacks” and given a truthful, accurate video for non-hairdressers at home that trust her expertise and guidance on hair to make their lives at home easier or that can’t afford going to the hairdresser. To me, she failed those followers and anyone new coming across this particular video. Sorry for such a long comment, but I believe every word is much needed in this case.
I can't stand TikTok. What I want to know is how to get that look people are wearing nowadays where the front strands are curled out so the way that it lays is that the top parts of the strands cover the corners of the forehead (great for people with big foreheads, like me!)
I don't have Tik-Tok. But Tik-Tok is not real revolutionary that second hack has been around forever and is crap it hurts gliding through the hair and does not work. So I guess in a way thanks for debunking it
I mean...aren't these "hacks" supposed to be DIY in that you are doing them on yourself? By that I mean it's different when you are looking *AT* the face and cutting vs. doing it to yourself and looking in a mirror. Obviously to choose whether to cut from inside out or outside in lands on the person doing the DIY but the angles change when you do it on yourself haha. PS. I would never do anything to my own hair that permanently changes it. Leave that up to the pros and support your local businesses (and avoid making their job harder by keeping your hands off!)
as a viewer of this kind of content, when I go to your page I personally lean towards this type of video, trying tik tock hacks or trying wierd beauty tools/hacks and I would love to see more of those kinds of videos, however if your going to do these videos and you want more people to love them. Then you need to show us that you are actually putting in the effort to do them correctly. People don't want to see you try all these and none of them work, there's a reason they all went viral, people want to see them work people want an easier way to do these things and if you can do them or even just some of them andaybe even make them better?! Now that's what we want to see. And I still love you and think your great and love your channel but girl you could do so much better if you just listened to your audiences critic's. Don't take offense to what could actually be something positive and help you get further.
You're doing it wrong. Flattening iron curl, you grasp hair as if to flatten it, clamp down, and then wrap around entire iron. Don't wrap around the plates. Also use a smaller section.
Why is she doing these wrong-? The second hack works but she is doing it wrong. She would never use that much hair for regular straightening. Why would she use that much to curl.
For the bangs, after crisscrossing, you need to cut in an angle, following the jaw line of the opposite side.
Yes I did this on myself and it worked great. I made sure to soften the edge once I cut the big lines. But following the jawline works just like the tiktok showed
That’s what I did too. I followed the jawline
Yep she didn't follow the tutorial.
Yes, she did it in wrong way (I am talking about 1st part with cut). It surprised me... It was by mistake or in purpose... Ha..ha..ha...
I was thinking the exact same thing
Your angling for curtain bangs was very different for each side and your flat iron wave section was way too big. Plus you didn't rotate enough to create a wave

I think you had to cut the bangs differently. I think the cut goes upward
The curling with a straightener hack actually works. I have been using it for more than 10 years, and I am one with a very straight hair. I would say, try it one more time.
I think she might have taken too big sections and went too fast? Or not hot enough?
I would try it again, However thinking about the heat + tension on the hair for it to not work again seems like a hack I will have to wait again to try.
@@Ellebangs Yay 💃💃💃 I got a reply. Thanks 🌹. And yes, I agree with you on your concerns about heay and tension.

Well she was doing these as if she wasn’t a professional hairdresser. She literally has a “how to” on curtain bangs.

Back in the day we did it with torn sheets and called it bologna curls
The curling method by straightener one you did it wrong miss. You should wrap it around both sides of the straightened first.
Agree! Wrap around top then place in between plates
