Commander and CEDH need to be officially recognized as their own formats. Rule 0 no longer really exists. The Commander Committee can't be trusted. The commander community is split right down the middle.
I dig the concept of tiers. We have different ban lists for different formats. Why not have different ban lists for the different sub-formats of Commander? Theoretically rule 0 was supposed to address this, but we can formalize some aspects of rule 0 by making different ban lists that can be used as a basis for rule 0 discussions by different playgroups. Vegas has designated high roller tables, maybe Commander should have the same formal distinctions.
These are good life lessons. You should have zero expectations of a cardboard rectangle being worth/accruing value. A kid shouldn't be saving up for a $100 Jeweled Lotus. He learned the hard way unfortunately, but he knows now that it's a total waste of money.
The collectible vs "game piece" argument is totally asinine. 20/25 years ago we had zero issues with this. They made one version of each card, rares were...RARE and we collected sets which is exactly how cards were meant to be collected. All of this versional nonsense is just a way for wotc to bleed their customers and any card shop owner knows it.

I don't think rules committee consulted with the product development division before making this decision . They literally nerfed the headline cards for many sets, like the first commanders masters set, which is and was proped up by Jeweled Lotus. Mana Crypt is that way for many sets that only had a couple of cards that propped up the estimated value of boxes. Mana crypt was advertised as the main card to get in a few of the collectors boxes with their special variations. Expensive boxes needed cards like these to justify the expensive price tags. Spend three hundred dollars on a collectors box, maybe break even with the expensive cards. It will now destroy any sales on boxes of those cards now. Banning such flag ship cards was not thought thru on many levels. That is the reason there are many types of games of commander. Casual, competitive, and cedh games.

The price of a card should NEVER factor in to whether the card is banned or not. Period. Bans are for gameplay . If your wallet was hurt 🤷♀️ who fuckin cares? you still have the cards, they still have value, and see play in other formats.
I’m a new player, and I’ve been hit with this. I’m genuinely considering leaving it, because what cards are they going to ban next? Why crack packs or buy good cards if they can be arbitrarily banned? I’m not interested in that sort of stuff at all, and refuse to take part in something where random nobodies can nullify my investment into the hobby.
Here’s the thing the bans will hammer some really high end players mostly. Those who proxied them or wouldn’t pay the price won’t be bothered. All in all I’ve had this kind of thing happen to me plenty of times so while I get the sadness it does happen.
