It needs to be mentioned, how much experience it takes to catch fish year round from shore, especially in such variety. Lots of good content on u-tube but most of those guys specialize at one or two things, most of them use boats, and all of them fish prime water. Jerry mostly fishes from shore, within driving distance of NYC, using modest gear and consistently gets impressive results. Best fisherman on U-tube.
I just happened upon your video, thanks for sharing your adventurous day. 👍I’m an old timer living in Florida, nothing like watching a fly fisherman and his artistic talent. Great video.
You're quite welcome sir please if you can Keep posting Videos of catching crappies with a fly rod. I really wanna get it down packed. I can do it all day everyday with a spinning combo but a fly rod is a whole different ballgame and I want in lol. Happy holidays to you and yours thanks for all the hard work 🤙🏽🎣
Hi Frank! Actually just got done tying a few more just right now! So cool! i do like them, look great in the h20 very silhouette'y with a beautiful wiggle! Did a few in brown/pinkhead and chrt/pinkhead, thanks frank!
@Fish Your Way Hi Jerry. Yes, practicing my French, lol. "Sac au lait," is the Cajun term for crappie. Translation is "sack of milk," because of its sweet, white flesh; I believe. Looking forward to seeing you soon as well, buddy.
I was crappie fishing once with a fly rod and a warden accused me of hiding undersized fish in my pocket, needless to say the innuendo was intended very weird experience
Yea I had my share of unneeded enthusiasm it sucks, weird is about right how you put it. Many are ill informed or working in an area they dont normally do when that happens. Thanks for sharing your experience Andrew
Tony, my technique is i have none! get the fly in front of the fishes mouth. Every scenario is always going to cater different so I play by the environment I am in. winds always shifting and trees bushes always get you in a corner so I look around and feel the breeze and go from there. i have no care in the world about looking pretty, that just never worked for me.
Hi Jerry, They were monster Crappie. You don't get big Crappie like that very often. I went fishing on Thursday and only had one bite. I fished the same place about two weeks ago and caught five small Black Drum. I guess they moved on. That's fishing. Have fun and good luck, Mickey
Wow those are some big boys and boy they were piled up. If this is Long Island The spot you are in, is that recent construction? The fence and rock piles are throwing me off because I think I recognize the general landscape. I could be totally wrong lol, a lot of spots have had construction this past though. Thanks for another great video can’t wait to give it a shot with my son it would be his first. He only has 3 fish he hasn’t caught in freshwater on the island and that’s one of them.have a great day.
Hi Jim thanks yes this is in LI. The crappie should be relating to shoreline structure right now. They are in most LI waters even NYC so now is the time to try! Thanks as always Jim
Great crappie catching! Those were slabs. I have only caught a few 14 to 15 inch crappie and they were in TX. Maybe I missed it in the video but do you tie those flies yourself? If not where could we get them? My daughter wants to learn to fly fish and we have access to a couple of spots with crappie and sunfish that would be good targets for her.
Hi John, thank you! they were nice ones for sure thank you! yea those are my ties I love the action really wiggly I kinda improvised but not sure where you can get em I would check for worm flies made with chenile thanks a great way to start I hope you get out sooner the better!

@Fish Your Way sounds like good color combos. Marabou or rabbit strips look alive even when they're not moving, right?!
@@frankzima7998 YES! and I hear they taste like chicken!

Classic unorthodox approach to slabs in brush piles! Those were quality. Bet there's a hundred people off rt 100 this weekend. It's that time!
No other way thanks Joseph! I love to see that gives the feeling things are alive!!! Thanks always Joseph!

Your videos are great, keep it up. You have an old school simple approach and you out fish most fisherman with high end gear
Thank you for the words, I like my gear it works so I dont see the need for new gear thats for sure!
I need to revisit my casting technique Jerry. I managed to whip two of my salt water flys off my tippet last time I went out. More practice required 😊
It's all about practice. In our area, Connecticut there are a few fly fishing clubs offering instruction in casting and fly tying. Keep at it.

Hi Tony, I am always refining every outing a heavier tippet may do it or a lighter cast varies on the fly you use I guess its just fun so much to it!
