For the coldest environments I recommend Kamik and Baffin. The Baffin impact or eiger are rated for -100c/-170f. Get 1 or even 2 sizes bigger. Make sure they’re not tight or you’ll get cold.
The warmest coat I ever wore was sheep skin however its not the most functional because of weight and stiffness, but the most efficiency warm coat I've used is duck or goose down, extremely high warmth to weight ratio, and both types are highly wind proof. My favorite accessory material for gloves or hat is thinsulate. boots I like Timberland. For stealth warmth, thermal waffle pattern shirt and long underpants for a base layer. Also neck sleeve for neck and lower face covering, used for motorcycles.
I doubt timberlands are warm enough compared to something like the la sportiva Olympus mons or the scarpa phantom 8000s which are both made to keep you warm climbing mount everest
@@masterhacker7065 Haha I haven't tried those but i'll tell you this, I have used both the 200 gram and 400 gram Timberland boots, With the 400 gram timberland Chillbergs, I can attest to the fact that I wore them in 0 degrees Fahrenheit with 40-50 mph winds and i didnt feel a single draft in them, with just basic white socks. Now if your going sub zero -10, -20 F, I would go to a brand that has higher rated insulated boots to 600 gram, if you're using that scale. if your going -40 or colder i would go 800 gram+. The climbing boots for Mt Everest Would have to be incredibly reliable, quality, Warm, Light, durable, water proof, the boots you mentioned seem like they are. But for Civilian use with up to moderate hiking and snow down to around zero degrees Fahrenheit the chillberg did me well.
Hi Lucy, Thanks for this really useful video. I’m going to my first ever extreme cold expedition and need to buy most of the gear. Are there shops in the UK you would recommend where I can try it on. I’m a small petite woman and struggle with sizes in the normal conditions, so finding sizes for laying online quite challenging. I’d really appreciate practical advise from a ‘local’.
Hello! I would say Snow and Rock are pretty good and sometimes order extra things in. Nordic Outdoor has also just opened in London - it’s got lots of brands you wouldn’t normally find in the uk. Snow and rock are good at ordering sizes in so you could ask them to do that before going. They also match prices online.
How cold does it get in the UK? Here’s in Canada -25C is the average in the city and it get to below 40 Celsius very often. If you dress properly its amazing though.
@MohamadEl-amine in the UK? Not cold at all! But this is aimed for the polar regions and longer expeditions out there. Absolutely - the right kit makes even -40 bearable, especially when moving
For men Nick a pair of your wife’s/girlfriends tights, Single men well it’s a visit to the ladies Dept and hide your face lol. They do keep you very warm, we as soldiers wore them on winter ops/ exercises just don’t get injured lol
I live in tropical brazil, and yet here I am watching this at late night
I think I was off grid and on expedition when you wrote this. Thanks so much for watching … even though you were/ are in tropical Brazil 🇧🇷

The weather reminds me of Minnesota
Thank you for the video! Could you recommend a good brand for wool socks?😊
I would say Smart Wool or Devoid or huber dachstein socks

I‘m taking notes to protect myself from the freezing, devestating and deadly english winter
It’s certainly going to be a much colder winter for us this year…
Glad this can provide some help, even if it was intended for the Arctic!

Any cruelty free wool alternative?
acrylic, polyester, fleece
Depends on what you consider cruelty
The sheep aren’t tortured. Synthetics are terrible for the environment. Silk is a great option.
🙄
When you are 17 and use the words: my many many years of experience.
17? Definitely taking this as a compliment
