The seagull must have made a hit to the eyes in the end for the weasel to back off. The bird was otherwise looking like it was going to be exhausted and drowned.
I've been in the avian field now for 30yrs having both wild & exotic pet species experience. I've worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaws. And I have to say this is some AMAZING footage these guys captured and i'm VERY glad they didn't intervene even though as humans we might want to it's not appropriate in the cycle of things. I have to say in the Herring Gull's defense these are EXTREMELY tough powerful birds no matter what you think of them or who you were "routing for". Granted this weasel has teeth however it does NOT have webbed feet which give the Gull the advantage. Also the Gull is an adult probably around 25in with a 4.5-5ft wingspan weighing in around 2.5lbs this is BIG PREY for such a tiny mammal. There are times the Gull was completely overpowering it and if you noticed it was even trying to drown it. The power of there beaks is IMMENSE it had no problem pinning him underneath the surface. In this scenario the advantage immediately goes to the gull because of this being in open water. Just how this weasel got this far out into the water is beyond me but it had to have been pretty damn hungry to take this risk. The likely scenario was it ambushed the Gull from shore and just because of it's weight alone prevented the gull from taking off by latching onto it with it's teeth. However, even if it ended up killing the gull it's a "sitting duck" so to speak out in open water like that for any large fish or bird to snatch up. Odds are the little fellow didn't make it back to shore do to exhaustion from the fight. And for those folks that are such "gull haters" they play a FAR bigger role than you can even imagine keeping all the refuse to a minimum. They are natures "cleanup crew" so I don't mind a little shit because of the bigger more positive role they play. I've seen three of these weasils or minks swimming in a lake. They are amazing swimmers. The ones I saw were totally black and quite small. They were so close to me and quite unafraid that I believe they were probably still quite young. I think they were minks.
No they aren't except for Great-Black Backed Gulls which we get here our largest Gull and most predatory Gull in the world. They could be considered "semi-Pelagic" as they spend more time out at sea then there smaller family members. "True Pelagics" would be Albatrosses which have even been known to sleep on the fly believe it or not...!!! And only come onto to land to breed because of there massive bulk and wingspans. Some might also consider Gannets or Frigate birds I.E. "Man 'O War" birds as they've been nicknamed to be Pelagic. But unfortunately there really not under the strict classification guidelines that makes a species totally sea dependent.

they would not be nearly as strong if they were larger. The smaller a creature is, the more proportionate strength it has. Ants can lift many times their own weight, no large animal could do that, due to the physics involved.
That is a mink, not a weasel. They are in the weasel family (mustelidae) but it is a different species than a long tail or shortail weasel would be. Cool video!
Great video capture!! I did not think weasels were such strong swimmers. Particularly that far out in the lake. He is one feisty, determined little guy. Some other guys posting on this video seem to think it is a mink attacking the gull. After watching the video a second time, I feel I am in agreement with them.
@Hairizal Dahrin narox isn't stupid at all. weasel don't swim! The animal in the video is a mink which is semi aquatic and does prey on gulls. you are just ignorant
I've never seen anything like that. I knew weasels were the most relentless, tenacious, determined, successful and bravest hunters in the animal kingdom but this takes the cake! It must've started the attack on dry land almost a whole mile away and the seagulls flew off with it trying to escape. It looks as if it ultimately did, but the weasel had obviously already damaged the bird's spinal cord. It's going to waddle off and just get eaten by something else now. 'And now how is the weasel going to get back on dry land? 'Probably just go to the guys on the boat and get rescued . .
Weasels are great swimmers! Did not know that. But I live in Cornwall, so I do know a lot about the Gulls. When civilisation ends.......there will be Roachs and Gulls!

they would not be nearly as strong if they were larger. The smaller a creature is, the more proportionate strength it has. Ants can lift many times their own weight, no large animal could do that, due to the physics involved.
No cap, this might be the best animal fight I’ve ever seen.. 🤣
I was playing GTA V and heard about this on Weasel News.
🤒
Fuck off

Okay that was funny!!!
Seagull : Get off me you weasel
Weasel : not happening wet bird.
It's a mink, not a weasel
@@floresaza253
Same thing, same family.
For some reason as a kid I had an insult where I called people a wet bird so seeing this comment made me smile. 😂
wow, i have never seen anything like this. Excellent footage!

That seagull got in a few good pokes and bites with its beak. I don't think the mink got away totally unharmed.
Суки твари можно же спости птичку чем снимать на камеру
That is a mink, not a weasel. They are in the weasel family (mustelidae) but it is a different species than a long tail or shortail weasel would be. Cool video!
Nope, it's a Weasel, and a furious weasel at that! Beaky is going down.
aaaahhhh so cute. these are two best friends just horsing around.
The weasel was genuinely trying to kill the seagull . Note how it jumped on the back of its neck and bit down on it.
@@lynx7631 its a joke
KoIcHi HoRsIE oh. oops
The seagull doesn't understand the concept of escape.
Birds have very fragile body. Mammals have greater endurance.
I was rooting for the mink.
+shax why not the stoat
+Mike Lord You're not funny.
+gear drop there was no stoat, only that, single mink
shax mink's are an invasive species where i am but i was still routing for him. Seagulls are horrible vermin.
In Ontario minks are native. Seagulls are actually nice birds, coast without seagulls would look like wet desert. This is nature, anyway.
Great video capture!!
I did not think weasels were such strong swimmers. Particularly that far out in the lake. He is one feisty, determined little guy. Some other guys posting on this video seem to think it is a mink attacking the gull. After watching the video a second time, I feel I am in agreement with them.
Wow I didn't know weasels could swim.
***** Animals of the weasel family are good swimmers, especially minks. Mink is the animal in the video.
@Hairizal Dahrin narox isn't stupid at all. weasel don't swim! The animal in the video is a mink which is semi aquatic and does prey on gulls. you are just ignorant
which animal can't swim?
narox almost every animal can swim to some degree. Even sloths swim well. Apes cant swim a lick,to heavy rhey sink instantly.
rhino
If they were 20x bigger this would be some lord of the rings shit
I've never seen anything like that.
I knew weasels were the most relentless, tenacious, determined, successful and bravest hunters in the animal kingdom but this takes the cake!
It must've started the attack on dry land almost a whole mile away and the seagulls flew off with it trying to escape.
It looks as if it ultimately did, but the weasel had obviously already damaged the bird's spinal cord.
It's going to waddle off and just get eaten by something else now.
'And now how is the weasel going to get back on dry land?
'Probably just go to the guys on the boat and get rescued . .
The gul's wings are just waterlogged and it can't fly off.
No evidence of spinal damage.
The mink is fatigued and now vulnerable - should it struggle to swim and slow down - other gulls will attack it.
Weasels seem to have a taste for blood.
If there were spinal damage that bird wouldn’t have been able to move. It was clearly too soaked to fly
didn't knew that weasels are that good swimmers.
Thank you for sharing
Weasels are great swimmers! Did not know that. But I live in Cornwall, so I do know a lot about the Gulls. When civilisation ends.......there will be Roachs and Gulls!
justin morgan the weasel was dunking his head trying to drown him 😭😂
Imagine you're a Seagull, and you hear a voice behind you saying:
"HERE COMES THE WEASEEEEEE-"
It was over soon as the gull couldn't fly.... that Weasel will just go and go until he/she's eating...
Mongoose,Weasels,Minks, Honey Badgers... all go like that... they just will not give up
well it did give up as it swam off at the end of the video
Now that is a unique experience. Water battle between two unlikely contenders.
Trying to get him HARD ??? 🤔 Hmmm, I’ve never tried this technique..
Legends have it they're still fighting up until this very day
I hate seagulls, every time I see them, they're bullying some poor bird.
Mink(which is what this is, not a weasel) and otters are known for killing things and not even eating it. So neither animal are nice and it's a shame a big shark didn't appear and eat them both!
“That thing is trying to get him Haard!” You said it bro.
How the fuck did the weasel end up that far in the lake?
Minks are master swimmers. They usually fish far from shore.
Determination
Could be rigged
Because its not a weasel. This is an American mink. And minks are very good swimmers.
hatter00 And you have reading comprehension skills. I asked how did it end up that FAR in the lake, not surprised by it being IN the lake, you dumb doofus.
Nature in all its wondrous majesty...😳😬!!!
Not a weasel that's a mink they're semi aquatic in the otter family
Who's here after knowing about a dog being taken by a seagull?
@Robert Murray nah it was defo a gull
@Robert Murray No, the story is true! Watch how this seagull it's an entire rabbit whole! There's tons of videos of seagulls eating pigeons whole, and other animals too. I was sceptic just like you, until I saw videos. The more you know!

WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME ALGORITHM!
Weasel is too fast for seagull. The bird doesn’t stand a chance.
Mink: u ate my little wabbit, my best friend.
Gull: he was already dead bro, chill
Otter: the council shall choose your fate.
Weasel: "WHERE'S MY MONEY BCH".🦡
The fact that it swam out to deeper water to take on a bird at least twice its size shows how amazing of a predator the American Mink is.
31 Otters Are Super Jealous
Nico Robin LOL! Now it's an otter!
They Are Jealous Because A Small Thing Like That Actually Took Down A Bird That Probably Looks 4-6 Times The Weasel's Size
Nico Robin
No the weasel didn't take it down, its the people who rented the boat's pet! , think about it!
Nico Robin But he didn't take it down now did he. Gull was still alive when the video ended. I'd be willing to bet money that little fella drown before he could make it to shore he was so exhausted from that struggle. The gull will have some deep gashes but salt water heals and I've bare witness firsthand to WORSE fights from these birds. Also he's got webbed feet to his advantage as well. Gull 2 weasel a big FAT O at least in that element. He bit FAR FAR more off that he could handle.
tomtalker2000 I, personally, am giving that one hands down to the weasel. He nailed it. That gull fled in desperation.
The key to the Seagull's survival was to not let the weasel get behind him and to keep pecking it as it approached.
and seagull is vicious predator itself
That's insane how does a weasel get all the way to the center of lake? 💯
Seagull: Oh boy a squirrel! Could use a snack!
Weasel: WHOYOUCALLINGSQUIRRELFOOL?!?!?!
This reminded me of the movie Rescuers Down Under..
Damn, weasels are badass!
What the hell was one doing in the water though? very unusual.
