    I need lots of practice! I enjoy your narratives as you always remind me of previous lessons and suggestions to use. A reminder to “keep the leading edge wet” or “adding to your drawing as you work” are helpful gems!

    Excellent video. Thank you Michele. I had to laugh when you said you work with your face an inch from the paper. I’m in exactly the same boat. I went to a workshop on painting watercolour in miniature recently. What was I thinking 😂

    Lovely video -- in fact, I'd vote for a companion short to go with it . My wish is a short that simply views the finished pieces. Thanks! ❤

    I did that first flat wash with different colors just for fun before this tutorial came out. Now I’m going to see if I can add some leaves and do some negative painting. Thanks for the demonstration!

    Great background lesson! This is an exciting day just received Michele Webber’s Essentials watercolor paint set. The case is really nice and tubes of paint are larger than what is available in my local area. My first set of professional paints. Time to practice.

    I don't know if this is negative space or not: A flower garden, as viewed through a gate or fence. I'm guessing that maybe a black iron gate might require a different approach than a white picket fence?

    • @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
      @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber  5 місяців тому +1

      Indeed, in watercolor, being transparent, lighter areas need to be painted around (or masked out), a dark fence could be painted on top (if very dark)

    Are you applying the watercolor pencil to the background when it is wet or dry ?

      There's no watercolor pencil in the backgrounds. For the flowers/succulent you will find the original tutorials linked in the video description so you can see how I did them.

    Question: Do you recommend stretching small watercolour papers? 5x7 in.

    • @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
      @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber  5 місяців тому

      Depends more on how much water you are using, I even stretch for greetings cards, but I do a big sheet and divide the paper into smaller pieces with pencil, it saves time.

    Negative painting is a phrase I have read often but, have no idea til now Aston what it was. What is the difference between background & negative, or outline & background? ( as in the handle of a cup, the circular inner is a negative form but, also background or is it negative? )? Thanks.

    • @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
      @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber  5 місяців тому +2

      Any shape outside an object is negative, but negative painting usually refers to revealing shapes by painting round them 🙂

      I didn't know this would be described as negative painting, I thought that was just painting a background. I thought negative painting was painting the background first to form the flower, before the flower was painted. You learn something new every day!
