I need lots of practice! I enjoy your narratives as you always remind me of previous lessons and suggestions to use. A reminder to “keep the leading edge wet” or “adding to your drawing as you work” are helpful gems!
Thank you!
Thanks Michele. Fascinating to watch and full of confidence boosting tips and reminders!
You're so welcome!
thanks for the detailed explanation while showing me too. Love your videos
Glad you like them! Thanks :-)
Very chuffed to see your new Cat Approved. Essential in fact. 👍
I think so too!
I appreciate your clear concise instructions. Thank you for sharing your process. As a beginner, I find it helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
You are my main go to for water colour instruction ! Well done! Thanks Ken
Thanks for watching Ken!
Very clear and concise directions…thank you for helping me better understand negative painting.😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Michele for these background ideas. I like negative painting. 🥰
Me too!
Thanks Michelle. Perfect for what I'm exploring at the moment
So glad!
Excellent video. Thank you Michele. I had to laugh when you said you work with your face an inch from the paper. I’m in exactly the same boat. I went to a workshop on painting watercolour in miniature recently. What was I thinking 😂
Maybe we need a magnifying glass!
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber Believe me, I’ve thought about it!
Thanks so much for your valuable and very well presented tutorials Michelle. I've found, liked and subscribed just this evening. Best wishes, Dudley
I understand what it is now thanks!
Super!
Love the colored pencil one. Im not sure of the name but my mother used to grow a plant closely resembling the one you did. Both looked great btw!
We call them house leeks here, not sure why as they usually live outdoors!
Lovely video -- in fact, I'd vote for a companion short to go with it . My wish is a short that simply views the finished pieces. Thanks! ❤
Great suggestion!
I really appreciate your painting hints Michele
I have learned so much from you since I first subscribed ages ago. Thank you!
Great to hear!
Happy new year Michele, looking forward to more tutorials and to watch you pass 200k subscribers, also looking for more painted nails .
Mark
Happy new year!
I did that first flat wash with different colors just for fun before this tutorial came out. Now I’m going to see if I can add some leaves and do some negative painting. Thanks for the demonstration!
You are so welcome!
I’ve not ever done the negative painting, I will attempt it now, you teach soo clearly and make it soo interesting! Thank you, as always 💝❤️🎨❤️💝
My pleasure
Great background lesson! This is an exciting day just received Michele Webber’s Essentials watercolor paint set. The case is really nice and tubes of paint are larger than what is available in my local area. My first set of professional paints. Time to practice.
That is awesome!
incredible tutorial, I love it ☺☺☺
Thank you so much 😀
Good video ,like how the paint flows without pre wetting yhe paper
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks so much! 🖌️🎨
Any time!
Many thanks!
You're welcome!
Amazing to watch your videos🥰

Ha ha yes lots of texture!
Thank you for this video. Beautiful work.
Thank you!

I don't know if this is negative space or not: A flower garden, as viewed through a gate or fence. I'm guessing that maybe a black iron gate might require a different approach than a white picket fence?
Indeed, in watercolor, being transparent, lighter areas need to be painted around (or masked out), a dark fence could be painted on top (if very dark)
Are you applying the watercolor pencil to the background when it is wet or dry ?
Answer I can't find ....
There's no watercolor pencil in the backgrounds. For the flowers/succulent you will find the original tutorials linked in the video description so you can see how I did them.
Question: Do you recommend stretching small watercolour papers? 5x7 in.
Depends more on how much water you are using, I even stretch for greetings cards, but I do a big sheet and divide the paper into smaller pieces with pencil, it saves time.
Thank you 😊
Negative painting is a phrase I have read often but, have no idea til now Aston what it was. What is the difference between background & negative, or outline & background? ( as in the handle of a cup, the circular inner is a negative form but, also background or is it negative? )? Thanks.
Any shape outside an object is negative, but negative painting usually refers to revealing shapes by painting round them 🙂
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber Thanks for the explanation.
I didn't know this would be described as negative painting, I thought that was just painting a background. I thought negative painting was painting the background first to form the flower, before the flower was painted. You learn something new every day!
