On paper, the terribly restrictive constitutional criteria for a presidential candidate lulls the citizenry to the PAP’s contention of the need for someone with a rare DNA who can guard the national reserves from a rogue government. In reality, it denies Singaporeans of choices.
Perhaps choices are not really what Singapore needs. The US allows anyone to contest and they have a bunch of clowns trying to dance for the rich. Its good to require leaders to have standards.

The fact that Tharman gets to sit on the chair itself is troubling. In PAP’s changing of the guard, unofficial polls put him as people’s choice to lead the ruling party. The Party decided he is not suitable and was bypassed. He is now deemed best suited for the top job in the land. What is good for the gander is not good for the goose. It feeds the speculation the party is inherently racist.
What's troubling is the fact that ~70% of people spoke but you find the mandate troubling.

Ummm..... I don't mind if Mr. Tharman wins. Even though he is being elected as the next president, well, I'm still keeping up supporting Mr. Ng Kok Song. Thought that Mr Ng is the most suitable one but since y'all like Pineapples so much, then, we'll let Mr. Tharman to be the chosen one anyway and let Mr Ng Kok Song to have a chance to be 10th President or whatsoever instead.
However, it's just the local vote counting tho. Let's wait for the international vote counting and overall results on Sept 11 then.

Singapore Parliament remains a Third World Parliament - until the Workers’ Party or any other opposition party or the combined voting strength is one-third of legislative strength at least. You need that to block new laws or prevent any change in the Constitution. Before anything else, there must be checks and balances. This is how governments are generally held accountable or are compelled to play fair.
