My grandfather, Alan Ball, died in this wreck. I took my mom and her 4 siblings up there around 10 years ago. It was a very somber experience. One of my uncles was still in my grandmother's stomach when he died. It's had a profound impact on all of their lives. I plan to trek a plaque of some sort up there next spring. Thanks for posting the video. I hope people remember men, real heroes, died there.
I’m sorry for your loss. I hope you can make it up there one day to pay your respects. Are you in the PNW?
@@WW2Hangar Thanks, yes I'm in Bellevue. I've been to the site and plan to go back soon and place a plaque to let visitors know what happened there
Please let us know when you do this. Ive been to this site twice now and that would be a great addition to let others know the story behind this accident.
@@azorianification I will let you know, planning late March early April if the weather is right. Thanks!
Thanks. Looking forward to it
Quite sad she had to go the B-17 was such a beautiful bird, because of them beautiful bombers one of my dreams if I ever get enough money is to buy the fuselage or a good chunk of the fuselage of a B-17 and restore it to flying order again, it has always been a dream of mine to own and fly a B-17
That would be amazing to own one. In the meantime you should donate to these organizations that own them and bring them out to shows. Have you flown in one yet? A few years ago I had the opportunity to take a 20-30 min flight. Amazing experience
Wow! What a beautiful hike! Awesome footage
Thanks. Yes, that area is insanely beautiful.
@@azorianification you picked a cool day to do it too with those low hanging clouds. Spectacular!
We definitely got lucky that day. 👍
What jack wagon brings spray paint on a hiking trail? Like anyone was impressed...it’s sad we go out to enjoy beautiful places like this and it’s some people that need to destroy nature. Smh
Thank you for the video.
I feel the same way. The weird thing is just to get to the trailhead is a long drive on forest roads, and the hike itself isn’t super easy. So it’s weird that so maybe people over the years had the idea to bring spray paint to deface plane wreckage. Can’t we just enjoy things and leave it alone? Haha
I always have a box of heavy trash bags because I know I’m going to come across a camp sight that will be absolutely trashed! It’s sad that people can’t just pack it out.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one that does this. We usually keep trash bags in our truck for this reason.
You know Joe, I feel the same way but I've come to accept the graffiti. It's gonna happen, even in a place as remote as this. It just becomes part of the site.
...that being said, the graffiti seen at 04:30 IS pretty ugly...We just visited last week (yep there's definitely a video about it on my channel lol) and I saw that specific piece...the teal outline was still there, but that black & white spray paint has faded away.
