Plus there isn't a location constraint on it, while the staff can only create mana in its column. I'm calling it now, he dies to the Shadows in the Deep Caves. Why? Because of the big curses. They will outscale 56 hp, and if you add them in your inventory, they are permeant unless you have the emerald bracelet or a healer in miraculously in your dungeon.
ooh yeah My bet is on if he gets queen bee in the crypt, if it does over 30 poison (which I assume it will be but idk I haven't got that far) then with the extreme tankiness of the enemies he won't be able to heal/remove poison in time. The bats in deep caves would also be very dangerous, but if he gets past both of those he's most likely dead to the shadows. my final prediction is bee, but if he gets rooster instead, then bats
The only problem I can forsee here is he would then be forced to attack 4 times every time he blocks. Sounds great unless it's the first turn and the enemy has spikes. Because of vampirism that means the spikes will get triggered 8 times as soon as he blocks once. Almost certainly a death sentence.

Tyler, for the King fight, you could, instead, use the minions to build up your block until you cap out block at max energy, then just spam block so that the boss doesn't scale his rage and spikes. That way, you don't suffer from his spikes since you have to attack him to get hit by it, and all you have to deal with is his rage, which will absolutely not be better than the sh*t ton of spikes that you will have. The only benefit with attacking using your weapon would be healing. Or, you can just scale your damage up with the minions on your weapon up to high heavens since max King scales would be 1 per attack, since your spikes will buff him once. The fight would be much easier either way.
I remember reading the description for the hercule pavise in another run and thinking “am I crazy or is that fundamentally broken?” and lo and behold this run came into being.
The reason for the block cap is supposedly because of Berserker's club, to limit the number of times you can use it in 1 turn so you can't use it for unlimited belt of knives damage. I think they should just let berserker's club be indirectly OP if you get stopwatch and a block heavy build.

would like to see a herb log build in the future maybe you can get the herb that gives 3 max hp multiple times so you can become a super tank maybe paired with the shield build :P
To Ben, Tyler's editor: at 14:41 there was a change in where the curse was. One moment the curse said it could not be moved, the next moment the curse is gone from the backpack entirely. Why was that part cut out and where did the curse go?
Comparing the map before the shop and after the fight against the shadow, it seems that a couple fights were cut. Tyler probably used the curse in one of those fights, thus getting rid of it.
Shield and spike build is my way to go. I remember playing Xenoblade X with Shield Spike build and just walking leisurely while enemies got spiked and dying here and there.
Did this exact thing, but had the other final boss. I’d say that one was harder because fire gecks get summoned which stack a lot of fire on you… had 600 fire at the end of it, but always had max sheild…
Yesterday i did a build called "the rise of the shield hero" it is literaly based on an anime that there are 4 heroes but they can only use one excluse "weapon" being: bow, sword, lance, and shield. And they cannot use other weapon. Thats why i lost to an enemy that inflicted debuffs instead of physical damage :( My only source of damage was 160 shield with 130 spikes per turn But it was fun and i got to floor 4
I think in the final fight you shouldve farmed the minions to scale while the king isnt, so you deal more dmg per shot which is decent against spikes. That would be minmax ;)
I had made a similar build but I had the shield totem which activated all the weapons around shields for infinite damage but the damage did decrease over time due to the Shield totems -1 damage for that round and after a certain point you could only block
Do you think the ancient tome could help compact the mana orb space or would it cause the shields to delay receiving sword buffs too long? Then imagine a reorganize to move the +1 energy stones and get even more late-combat actions per turn!
I wonder how good Shield Spirit would be for this build (Shield Spirit is a relic that makes shields use weapons adjacent to them when used with a downside that the weapons get -1 damage this combat (which is counteracted by Tyler’s Stopwatch in this run))

ITS GOING FAR
this is absolutely insane but poison may instantly end it
Honestly tyler, this build is cracked. Though i do wonder if it has fast enough ramping? Either way we find out next time on backpack hero.
The thumbnails king
So what was that fancy-looking sword that dropped on the very first combat at 1:00 that you completely overlooked?
Earthstone Sword iirc
Heavy, bonus damage for spaces beneath it - you're meant to prop it up with bricks
I've had so many good builds die to the king's thorns
Shield and spike build is my way to go. I remember playing Xenoblade X with Shield Spike build and just walking leisurely while enemies got spiked and dying here and there.
yeah it just fails completely in this game if you dont have other damage and healing due to curses and snakes that literally cant die from spikes
cleaver run with cleansing flame is unbeatable
it isn't. you need shield spirit now
Did this exact thing, but had the other final boss. I’d say that one was harder because fire gecks get summoned which stack a lot of fire on you… had 600 fire at the end of it, but always had max sheild…
Block just seems like the best scaling in the game currently. If not for a poison weakness a spike/block build is basically unbeatable
It's very beatable as the highest block you can get is 999 and enemy damage will eventually scale past that.
nice build and awesome vid
I AM THE WALL
Yesterday i did a build called "the rise of the shield hero" it is literaly based on an anime that there are 4 heroes but they can only use one excluse "weapon" being: bow, sword, lance, and shield. And they cannot use other weapon.
Thats why i lost to an enemy that inflicted debuffs instead of physical damage :(
My only source of damage was 160 shield with 130 spikes per turn
But it was fun and i got to floor 4
I think in the final fight you shouldve farmed the minions to scale while the king isnt, so you deal more dmg per shot which is decent against spikes. That would be minmax ;)
I had made a similar build but I had the shield totem which activated all the weapons around shields for infinite damage but the damage did decrease over time due to the Shield totems -1 damage for that round and after a certain point you could only block
thats why you either put rage on one weapon or get the clock. the clock fully negates shield spirit and 1 rage per attack does it almost completely
what the binding of isaac youtube plz
youve gotten infinite block and (soon to be) inf spikes, now do every buff
Do you think the ancient tome could help compact the mana orb space or would it cause the shields to delay receiving sword buffs too long? Then imagine a reorganize to move the +1 energy stones and get even more late-combat actions per turn!
I wonder how good Shield Spirit would be for this build
(Shield Spirit is a relic that makes shields use weapons adjacent to them when used with a downside that the weapons get -1 damage this combat (which is counteracted by Tyler’s Stopwatch in this run))
2nd loop here we go
The guy that rhymes “backpack” with “backpack”.
There needs to be a stacker item
