So none of those are in season? Are all the other boats throwing them back? When do they come into season?

Redfish may be targeted and kept year round in NC. We have a slot of 18-27in and currently the bag limit is one fish per person, per day. Anglers typically catch and release and only keep the largest slot fish for the day. Schools of redfish make their showing in areas like this during the winter. during summer and fall they are typically in the sounds and rivers.

I have a question, I go on vacation to Sunset beach North Carolina in may and they have a fishing pier and I would really love to catch Reds, flounder,Etc. What would you prefer I use to catch these kinds of fish?

      Hi,
Your best bet for the flounder would be to walk the beach, especially during the middle of summer and fall and cast the surfzone with a 1/4oz to 1/2oz jighead tipped with a Berkley gulp shrimp (pearl white). Flounder will lay close to the beach just inside or outside the natural sloughs that parallel the shore. Redfish will be sporadic in the surf during summer but, during the fall and winter they will stack up out there... especially within a 1/2mile of any of the inlets.

I would suggest driving up to Wilmington or southport.... that's not too far... and contact Capt. Jeff Wolfe of Seahawk Inshore Fishing Charters. He know the water very well in the Cape Fear River. If you're ever up around Emerald Isle, NC Give me a shout
