Ed is young so I get his take on drinking. After about 30 is when I saw the trend with my friend group. At 35 most people I know barely drink. I stopped drinking at 33 when it noticeably impacted my sleep and didn’t have time to be sluggish or hungover
If you make less money: fall in love with cooking, learn your parntner's tastes, and crush meals for them. A customized thoughtfully prepared meal is 1000x better than a bought meal. It has never been easier to learn even the most complex cuisines with YT, reddit, etc. I'm as whitebread and untrained as it gets but i now can cook a mean lasuni gobi thanks to YT.
100%. Also useful for dating - cooking a meal is something that proves you have a skill, similar taste and costs much less. My rule was second date was always a home cooked meal.
Re: money. This woman I know her son is 30. Working-class. He's engaged to a woman who wants an engagement ring she picked out. Cost: $30K. Mother told her son not to spend so much. "Mon, then she won't marry me." Obviously, she is not the "one."
@@TR-lh9yz yup. Just like buying a house together before you're married. I'm not traditional when it comes to societal norms but doing that is a financial disaster waiting to happen.
I'm going to see Ramit live at the House of Blues Chicago tonight. He's a freaking rock star! I would pay to see Scott and Ed do a live podcast, just saying.
Already the subject is interesting to hear about finance and money, but so much more relevant when it comes to a couple and the dynamics that money can impose or give. Love that one.
In a previous relationship, we split expenses on net income (post taxes, etc) and each hand our own pocket money. Eg I earned approximately 60% net income and therefore covered 60% of our household expenses. Loose math, we ended up with the same amount of pocket money. It worked well for us.
My wife and I have been doing the joint account for bills, and separate (but not secret) accounts for the rest. Best decision of our lives, and it’s been working for many years.
The one thing about housing I've learned is this: If you're lower on the income ladder, get into a house as soon as possible. Those fixed payments are crucial to budgeting, especially as it will likely be harder to weather rent increases, let alone have any money left over to throw into investing. But if you're upper income? Likely better financially to rent and sock the leftover money you have each month into the market and see what comes down the pike. I always wondered why people would say, "owning a house doesn't make financial sense." That's often true if you're wealthy. Perspective and context is crucial to this discussion. Great episode
If you watch Ramit's stuff, he's not against buying a house. He just says run the numbers first. People compare rent to a mortgage payment and forget taxes, insurance, maintenance, upkeep, etc. Rent is the most per month you pay for housing. Mortgage payment is the least you will pay. In the US people seem to get irrationally obsessed with real estate for some reason.
Stopped alcohol 3 years ago and I am healthiest I have ever been and I dont seem to be missing anything. Most alcohol culture is people acting like what they drink is way cooler than it is. Swirling the grape juice in a glass.... oh yeah it has notes of blackberry and cookie dough...
We moved in together after 5 months of dating. We got a joint bank account a month later to make expenses easier. She did freak out at the spreadsheet I made for total expenses and each of our contributions. Included housing, utilities, food, dining, trips, basically anything 'us' related.
As a kid (early 1990s), our family of 4 went for a ski weekend every year, making middle class money at that time. Now, i can't take my son skiing bc I can't justify spending $2k for a weekend on our middle class income.
Very nice podcast again! I love the recurring topic of this podcast of the importance of generosity. Interesting thought about alcohol and drinking. Very correct observation that loneliness and not hanging out together anymore has to do with less alcohol consumption. I am not sure though if I agree that young people should drink more in order to socialize better. But we should discuss much more, that health culture (sleeping well, eating well, sports, less alcohol) is an important factor why people spend less time together. Healthy living is strongly discouraged in most groups.
More disciplined, more educated and more valued in the workplace. Great line that is tough for both parties to recognize at times. Especially as roles and opportunities change over the years.
I’d love to watch the video of your pods but they come out too late. Can you offer them when the podcast comes out? I think that would give you a better perspective of the medium preferred by your audience and you’d likely see UA-cam really pick up. Thx.
21:10 real talk women don't want a man that they have to support. All this talk about what men need to do. But I never hear anyone say to women that when you make more money you are financially responsible for the ones around you. Men know this, if guy is broke he stuck out of mating and dating.
the term "Partner" is very unhelpful in this discussion. -- regardless of people's choices/lifestyle there is a Grand Canyon gap between Married and Partner
Thank you so much for this amazing video! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
Getting outdoors in snow: Snow shoe and XC skiing are great alternatives to bringing the family outdoors and not be beholden to the ski mountain conglomerate devils. All you need is snow.
14:07 i totally agree with scott here, I sincerely hope the democrats become the party of the working class again and ditch the old school racialized patron system.
Skiing has been too expensive for most people for 50 years - this is not new! it's just worse. Snowshoeing is safer, more affordable, and more nature-centric.
Youth unemployment is over 25% in Europe and they spend their free time drinking and that's a huge issue for the government's...seems like Scott is promoting that sorta behavior🤦
Scott we love you, but there are many many ways to have fun without alcohol. Obviously it’s fine occasionally but it definitely needs to be downgraded from being a social norm.
Agreed that the skiing duopoly needs to go away! And they deserve their stock plummet. Side point, the way a middle class family can "afford" to ski is by getting season passes ($700 -$1000) and go up as much as you can. Still incredibly expensive, but if it's your "winter thing" it works out
This is going to be a different bull market. With XAI200F coming to scene. Ben basing off previous speculative markets. I can see 300,000 next bull run.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
One persons so'called "misinformation" is another person's attempt to accuratly describe whats really going on. "Misinformation"..or anything synonymous word... is used by people who have lost control of the corporate media " narrative " to alternate opinions on the internet
Depends on your finances . 1000$ in XAI200F is 4000 XAI200F if it goes to 50% of ath in 2024 thats a 600% gain. If it goes equal to ath . Its a 1200% gain.

Same. And now that I’ve stopped drinking, I still go out and have fun but I don’t miss the drinks or the hangover feeling.

You got me thinking. Thanks

Two of my favorite content creators together!!!!

One thing I would add - a joint account is something Married couples should do, and not “boyfriends & girlfriends”.
Totally agree. Unmarried people really shouldn't have combined accounts, buy a house together, etc. Just a disaster waiting to happen.

Very cool! He’ll be playing his hits “I will teach you to be rich”, “Make sure you setup your conscious spending plan”, and “Invest in the S&P”

It worked well except it's a "previous" relationship. 😀

I love seeing Ramit on the pod! Great episode, as always!

Love the pod. Usually listen on Spotify. The video side could definitely use some work.
There's plenty of ski places out there that aren't owned by Epic or Alterra. I am a PSIA ski instructor and this is our 1st year getting an Epic pass.
Scott praising South Africa isn’t exactly something I expected to happen😅
I love you guys! Both of you provide pure truth & wisdom that I share. Keep up the great work
Vail resorts are magnificent! I got an Epic season pass for $242 as retired military. It doesn't get any better than that!
As a kid (early 1990s), our family of 4 went for a ski weekend every year, making middle class money at that time. Now, i can't take my son skiing bc I can't justify spending $2k for a weekend on our middle class income.
Last few mins, hit the spot!
We watch for Ed's reaction to the joke and for the content. 5/10
That is the best opening joke, starting 2025 on a bang
Skiing us just a status symbol now. It’s no longer the fun family activity it used to be.
I'm not waiting in line for an hour for ANYTHING.
Very nice podcast again!

Dana is in the board because the UFC will stream live on a Facebook platform after the espn deal falls through
A young guy who needs to learn to connect, especially with women, without alcohol 🍺.
I miss drinking, having a kid and running a company doesn't leave me a lot of time :(
Ed, “How early should you talk about it?” (Asking for a friend 😂)

Why are there ads on the UA-cam version?
You already know how to fish 😂
Somehow his jokes always revolve around sex
Anyone with the balls to try explaining to a woman how they're a "provider" but not through money should go into politics.
These bots are out of control
It's about time y'all mentioned XAI200F
14:07 i totally agree with scott here, I sincerely hope the democrats become the party of the working class again and ditch the old school racialized patron system.
Oh, so you're the reason all the property in Cape Town is so expensive?😂...Glad you enjoyed our country Prof G
Scott, if all you saw was Cape Town, and a "safari" I'm really disappointed in you
He’s arguement against buying a house doesn’t make a lot of sense. You can buy a house you can afford and still invest and go holiday as well.
Why are 90% of the comments ridiculous crypto spam?
Could it be shill time?
12:50
A middle class family cannot afford to experience having kids... let alone go skiing.
I think I need more XAI200F, before Blackrock buys them up. 😂
No
Alcohol is the single worst addiction to have… just stop!
Addiction is the problem. Not alcohol my good sir.

Only a rich person can make renting sustainable
Scott we love you, but there are many many ways to have fun without alcohol. Obviously it’s fine occasionally but it definitely needs to be downgraded from being a social norm.
A rare decent opening joke from Prof. G. Very Catskills, but I will allow it! "Alcohol brings too much joy to my life" - spoken like a true Brit!
Note all the shills below for various crypto-related stuff. Anyone note how quickly it falls when there's upheaval?
