    Over the past few years, some car manufacturers have stuck Sport badges on the backs of certain vehicles, but have failed to actually back up the claims in many cases. Whether lacking in performance, driving dynamics, or looks, a lot of the cars fail to meet the mark in terms of sportiness. So can Hyundai's new Elantra Sport actually live up to the badge? Watch the review to find out!

    Really disappointed that you complained so much about the interior. Are you forgetting that this is a $22,000 car? A few hard touch plastics and manual adjustments are nothing. For the price, I'd say this interior is luxurious, especially when compared to something like the more expensive Toyota 86. The simplicity of the center stack is very reminiscent of Audi, actually. I love it.

    @resplendentwitticism 7 років тому +23

    The money they put into this car is for the amazingly rigid steel that it uses, the confidence inspiring suspension, and the decently powerful engine. The power seats, fancy interior, and other creature comforts don't matter to people that buy cars with a sport trim.

      The Bat It's true, but even then, this interior is actually very nice. Compare this with the Toyota 86. Cloth seating there, a pretty crap steering wheel and just as many hard plastics. The 86 costs more. People are spoiled -- I'm a big fan of this interior.

    I actually have this vehicle now, but standard transmission. I have no complaint about the interior. Its because this vehicle is meant as a sport so the interior will be more SPORTY with less colors. i have both 2016 sport and this 2017 sport. I love this 2017 sport more because its faster, better shifting, rides smooth, and interior has a luxurious look.

    I currently have 3 Hyundai Sonatas. 1- 2014 and 2- 2015s, (1 SE and 1 Sport). I have owned 7 Hyundais total, including a 2013 Elantra and a 2007 Santa Fe.. I am very sold on them. I only lease now, and my 14 is in the 4th year of a 4 year lease. I would never have considered another Elantra, until I heard about the sport. I always thought they should have a more powerful model available. Unfortunately, my dealer doesn't have any in yet. I need to drive the stick and the automatic. I am very anxious to try them.

    • @roochiecooch
      @roochiecooch 7 років тому +1

      Bill Treadwell you definitely should test drive them. The automatic is not a standard one. It is a 7 speed dual clutch auto. Much more direct than a typical auto, and much less power loss compared with a standard torque converter type auto. All of the other reviews I've watched said the dual clutch auto was smooth, quick shifting and responsive. Seems like Hyundai nailed with this iteration of the Elantra.

      Elantra gt prices is cheaper than the elantra sport and elantra.
      Reason why is because its a touring design, and also Hyundai is not changing their design on the elantra gt. Until 2018..
      But i still prefers the elantra gt.
      Looks sport and cargo is the top of the line..!

  • @hugosepulveda8932

    This is a beautiful car, well designed well made and a great looking interior for mature drivers, the colors on the inside are perfectly chosen/ note to HYUNDAI>DON'T SCREW CHANGING COLORS AND SO MUCH OF THE RED STUFF. I am considering a sport package!

    I am really considering buying/leasing this and getting rid of my POS Chevy Cruze. The things I don't like about the Elantra sport are the lack of a power driver's seat, no memory seats, plastic on the back of the seats with no leather map holders on both sides, and no heated steering wheel.

    Awesome video, but I'm not sure if you were correct when you said this is the first elantra to be offered fully loaded with a manual. If you were referring to sedans only, then you very well may be correct. Only reason I mention this is because I have a 2014 elantra gt fully loaded with a manual. From what I understand, they are pretty hard to come by. I figured I would mention that. Other than that, excellent video! I really appreciate how in depth you went with this video. Have you gotten a chance to drive the manual version?

    • @GrandPrixGTP02
      @GrandPrixGTP02  7 років тому +1

      I said that this was the first Elantra of THIS generation that offers a manual standard when fully loaded. Otherwise you'd have to get an SE Base in order to get the 6-speed standard, but yes, being that I work for Hyundai, I am well aware that this isn't the first loaded Elantra to have a manual as standard. I have gotten to drive the manual version and its VERY responsive...but I'm not a fan of the half-rubbery throws/ feel of the shifter. Other than that, both version are awesome!

    • @dylanw9412

    The fact the dual clutch shudders on take off is no big deal. I've seen reviews of Aston Martins, Lambos, and more affordable dual clutches that do the same on take off, or even ones that take off jerky, or even spins the tires because its kinda, "all or nothing". That's the price you pay to have more direct feeling transmissions with the convenience of an auto. I'd say Porsche may be the only company who has mastered those transmissions. I really like was Hyundai has done with the Elantra Sport.

    • @UnitedRecording
      @UnitedRecording 7 років тому

      Yung Padawan It is really annoying in my opinion. I've driven automatics my whole life and they are usually pretty smooth... Oh well, I still LOVE the cars dynamics and what it has to offer and I'll be leasing one shortly.

    • @GrandPrixGTP02
      @GrandPrixGTP02  7 років тому

      I actually got one in Electric Blue, but I went for the automatic bc I live in an area with very heavy traffic. I've driven the manual and believe it or not, I actually dont like it too much. Hyundai didnt throw the B&M Racing Short Throw Shifter in the mix from the Veloster R-Spec, and that makes the shifts a lot more rubbery IMO.

      The Elantra Sports all have IRS. Any other Elantra sedan still has the torsion beam susupension I beleive. I test drove the manual and ended up buying it and just waiting for it to arrive. Nice short throws and easy clutch engagement. The tires were very grippy and since i am in Canada, I awill be getting Toyo winter tires. The heated seats were great of course but the heated steering wheel was a great surprise. One other thing I like about Hyundai is they manufacture their own virgin steel for their cars. Anthony Strunk yes! Bought mine about 6 weeks ago. Absolutely LOVE it! Only thinks I dont like are minor things, like no light in the glove box or center storage, only one seatback pocket (and its mesh netting material), trunk lighting not very bright, and could use a cover to hide/protect the backside of the bass speaker in the trunk.
      I love the power, the handling, the ride, visibility, features, and value! A LOT to love about this car that vastly overpowers the minor dislikes

      99CCFF 756e6b6e6f776e65786961 647072746c646b not really. As long as it emits an amber light it is up to dot standards. They could have gotten away with using a clear housing and an amber bulb.

    This is and would always be a stupid buy at that price tag new. When you can buy used better quality cars with much more power with low mileage. 26k wow. A used 2015 Hyundai genesis would be a much better in that same price range.
