For those of you who are confused, he was questioning the 2nd strike and pointed out that it was outside. The umpire gave him a warning. Then another outside pitch comes an strike 3 is called, in anger the batter exclaims “bullshit.” The umpire then tossed him out of the game.
I’ve been umpiring for 8 years. The only person an umpire needs to give a warning to is the head coach. Technically everyone else doesn’t need a warning before you toss them. I usually give everyone one and the head coach two.
I know and it was one strike call most of us in the dugout say that and the coach doesn't do anything but sometimes my coach will argue and he's almost gotten ejected without even so much as a warning
Geez, when I played little league even one ball/strike argument with the ump was an ejection. We were also told, especially at the younger ages, that the strike zone was large (due to lack of pitcher control at this age) and to swing at anything close.
yup I play and that's what they say one time my teammate said something just like three words and got yelled at by another one of my coaches and he almost got ejected but he didn't because it was the end of the game pretty much and I don't think the umpire realized it
Once when I was playing catcher, my dad was umpiring and my uncle was our coach. I had been purposefully dropping the ball the get the runners on base to steal and then throw them out. My dad said he knew what I was doing and to stop. Well I did it again and the runner on third tried to steal home and I tagged him out but my dad called him safe. I had just seen Bull Durham and I repeated a line from that movie and it got me tossed.
In my opinion, this is a legitimate ejection. The batter was arguing balls and strikes with gestures and words enough that it could be seen, so he was warned by the plate ump. Even the manager told the batter to calm down. After the batter struck out, he obviously said something to the ump again. Even if it was not cursing, the ump was justified for throwing the batter out. This could have been avoided if the manager called time to let the batter calm down before taking the next pitch.
Little League rules do not permit a runner to lead off until they are 13 years old (part of the Intermediate Division baseball program). If a runner doesn't lead off, then there are no balks and no pick-off moves for pitchers.
Can't tell what the kid says to get run from the game. Audio just isn't good enough but I am guessing he was questioning strikes. The warning came after a strike and the toss after ejection. Also, I notice something on the right sleeve of the shirts but no Little League patch on the left sleeve. Plus, there is no leading off in Little League through Majors Division. These kids look like maybe they are 10/11 age group which is AAA in Little League. I see coaches standing outside of the dugout too. A big Little League safety and rule violation. What Little League Chapter is this?
Agreed. In which case, the video title is deceiving. The title does say "Little League game". Little League is pretty specific. Frankly, I find most people refer to nearly any youth baseball as Little League not realizing that Ripken is not Little League, Ruth is not Little League, local town association baseball is not Little League, travel baseball is not Little League, Pony is not Little League. Which brings another option other than travel ball. Ripken, Ruth, Pony all progress the game to leading off whereas Little League does not.
Yes. I work Little League in Virginia. Ripken in North Carolina. Travel baseball in Virginia and Top Gun in North Carolina from 8u through 14u. Been working the last couple of years after finishing up with coaching. Fun stuff.
After calling strike 2 the player complained. That brought the super fast strike 3 call (hahahaha) and when he again complained he was ejected.... With youngsters I will admonish them when they argue balls and strikes and if they continue I have done the same.
Normally you don’t resume play until the player has left the dugout and is well on the way off the premises. Surprising he ejected and went right behind the dish.
@@mercdragons I wish I could say that was true. But unfortunately it is not. I have had batters look at me while their parents or coaches complain on a strike call and say "That was a strike, I wish they would just shut up". People complain just to complain. Any close call that goes against them guaranteed there will be a complaint. Doesn't matter if the call is right or not (and most of the time the call is right). People just like to complain. But hey if those complainers think they can do better, why aren't they suiting up??
This isn’t Little League. In Little League the runners in the Major division (10-12} don’t lead off the bases until they’re league age 13. The reason why is because in the Jr. division players experience true MLB dimensions and are more mature in the knowledge of baseball. Leading off on 60 foot bases doesn’t prove that the runners are better, it proves that shortcuts are the way to go.
@@idek4617 Little League has Minors then Majors. Majors ages 10-12 year olds. Minors 8-11 year olds. There is no leading off in the Minors and Majors levels of play in Little League. Little League does offer an Intermediate Division that plays 50’ mound and 70’ bases that allows leading off. Age group is 11-13 but you rarely see any Little Leagues with that Division. The vast majority go from Majors to Juniors (Juniors is 60’ mound and 90’ bases ages 13-14).
From the looks of the way 1B and 3B line up with the pitching rubber I would say that this is a PONY Baseball Bronco division game. The bases are 70 feet apart which makes the distance from home to 2B just shy of 99 feet. The pitching distance at the Bronco level is 50 feet, which would put the rubber almost nearly on an imaginary line from 1B to 3B. This appears to be the way things line up.
In "little League" an umpire should be required to walk over and quietly inform a MANAGER or coach that a player is ejected. Making it a dramatic "you're outa here" only causes issues to escalate. Sometimes these umps watch too much TV. He needed to get tossed.....no doubt. But there is a correct way to do it in youth sports.
Nope, it's baseball and the player needs to be ejected in a manner that everyone can see what a jerk he is. Maybe next time he won't handicap the team by being a fool.
For those of you who are confused, he was questioning the 2nd strike and pointed out that it was outside. The umpire gave him a warning. Then another outside pitch comes an strike 3 is called, in anger the batter exclaims “bullshit.” The umpire then tossed him out of the game.
He shouldn’t get tossed
So...he was warned and then reacted to a following pitch... Run him!
@@hickey99 Yes he should have if he got a warning. The ump was generous to give him that.
