Alton Line - Woking to Alton

Journey on the Alton Branch Line from Woking to Alton. Brookwood is the junction for this former alternate route to Winchester. This was train no. 1A13, the 07:23 departure from Waterloo to Alton.

As a boy I lived in Wrecclesham, I could see this line from my house. Spent many happy hours in the 1950's watching 2 BIL's pass by & the steam hauled Saturday morning goods heading to Alton. We used to stand on the footbridge off Weydon Lane on summer evenings watching trains enter the cleaning sheds.
