- This coop is turning out to be one fancy coop! The girls have been upgraded from a hole in the wall (literally) to a battery powered automatic door that opens either with the sun, or on a timer. Buddy and I modified our coop and installed and programed it and it was very simple and easy. Hang out with us as we install it!

Had to laugh when you asked Buddy what 9pm was ... can hear him counting up from 12 ... cannot see him, but I could picture him actually counting up using his fingers off camera 😂
I use the round up method 12+9...round up to 20 +1
Lol yup! I was counting with my fingers. God gave me 10 of them so I don't waste the opportunity to math with them 😂😂

That would let anything in, not just pets.
They do automatic pet doors that only open for pets with specific collars

If you do it by light then you don't have to worry about locking chickens out during days of longer light or not getting the door shut right after light is gone on shorter light days.
Most chickens go in by the amount of daylight not by the time of day.
Some adjustments will probably need to be made, we were not sure if an excess amount of shade would shut the door and lock them out. We went with the better safe than sorry method here.
@@TheBuddyd I could understand that. And then after I wrote that I was wondering if you had one of those motion detection lights above it? Because if you do and a animal could get into the run trip on the light and that might trip the door to open if it is set to turn on with light. But I don't think cloudy or shady days would trip it to close. I think as long as there is light like dusk to down the door will stay open. But setting on a time to close after it gets dark can leave a opportunity for a predictors to get in without being seen and closing them in with the chickens all night. And if the chicken house is far enough away from the house you won't hear the commotion unless you have a camera set up in the coop and facing the run.
