Interesting comment, thanks. Perhaps they may squeeze in a flypast for you next week?
@@AirflowNZ sadly im not that connected , might be able to get a free coffee at my mates cafe if the boss isn't looking but a flyby,,is a big ask
They are flying over the South Island on Monday and Tuesday next week
@@murraylawrence1400 sweet ill keep a eye out
Hiya Kerry. Yes, Whenuapai was a great place to live in the 70s. I can remember in the early 70s when the DC3s retired beating up the airfield and flying over the school. We were out of the class on the school fields watching. So cool. Dad was 5 squadron, avionics. He used to call the Orions " Onions".
Hope you are well mate.
a tear in one's eye for a retirement well deserved. When I was teenager my mum would put me on one these aircraft at Whenupai (Auckland) so I could visit my dad in wellington for the holidays who was a Captain in the Army attached Cadet Forces. I always enjoyed refreshments provided. Goodbye old friend , later in life I enjoyed them at air shows.
John, thank you for sharing your Hercules memories!
Great footage! Thanks for that
Glad you enjoyed it
That old bus has stood the test of time. A real work-horse.
Terry, they certainly have!
Thats awesome to see them flying formation - beautiful elegant 757 + the big C130's on each flank.
That’s a great observation. They do look elegant together!
The estimated life originally was up to 20 years. 60 is unbelievable! Fact is , one of these is deserving to be going to the Motat air museum.
Just one H model will be retained and it will be at Wigram.
Awesome footage. Interesting to see the formation flying with the 757.
Brent, many thanks for your comment.
Fantastic, Kia Kaha
Yes!
6:03 What a shot
Thanks!
You can see the distinctive radar pod in the new plane probably avionics has been upgraded and storage in the cargo bay extended .....The power plant is still the same. .....
Engines are different, the H model has Allison T56's, the J model has Rolls Royce AE2100 engines.
not to mention the camera/sensor pod, which they've taken off for this flight
Many thanks for your detailed explanation!

Top Video thank you!!
Glad you liked it!
They flew over Palmy the other day, heard them more than saw they were so low,and only had a quick glance at 2 don't think they even flew over the Linton Army base judging by the direction they were heading,
Would have been great to watch them for the last time,
Hope they do a better flyby with the replacement planes when they all get here
Thanks for your comment!
Saw those yesterday and wondered what they were up to. I saw two hercules flying close and low like a couple of fat wood pigeons.
Damion, pleased to provide your bird question!
I was at laurie hall park when they flew over dam they flew by so low👍
MM, thanks for your comment!
And they still look and sound Fantastic!
The lives they have saved...the assistance they have given to disaster situations..
I hope they retire to a deserved institution that will maintain and exercise them, just like our vintage raiway enthusiasts do o aged trains.
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts!
Great footage.. Sadly I missed them flying over Kerikeri.. or did they? You can hear them a mile away normally...
Jeff, thanks for you comment. They did show on flight radar as going over Kerikeri, sorry that you missed them.
Do they just dissappear out to sea like seagulls do when times up?
Apparently they fly out to the southern Indian ocean and join MH370 😊
Ater this weeks display they are off to Woodburne for storage. One will sent to Wigram museum.
Had a great view of them coming up the Whangarei Harbour just before Whangarei super low
You must have been close to the flightpath!
G’day. I was after a video from a 1990 TV news clip about the Roaring 40’s accident you may have had up on your channel some years ago but doesn’t seem to be there anymore. Is there any way I can obtain it?
I have not covered that but NZ Historic Flight channel may have it.
@ thanks mate!
Had quite a number of hours been flown in Hercules , 2x to Australia, 3 x to Fiji. 32+hours. Near 26000km.
Thanks for your interesting comment.
I seen them to so cool ..
Yes, thanks for your comment!
i think i saw this flight leaving auckland yesterday
Brady, hope you caught them on Monday!
Goodbye old friends.
Roger, what fond memories we have!
Came over our house in ORewa, probably about 1000 feet.
Glad that you could see them!
It flew most places and I hoped it would pass Taupo but, nuh-uh.
Black luck, the new J’s will visit Taupo some time.
