That was a fantastic book discussion. I am an old man and have read the books mentioned and you nailed them. Catch 22 meh and Graped of Wrath the second time, Wow. Never read Visions of Gerald but will now. Sounds like Dandelion Wine by Bradbury. So good. I appreciate the time and effort put into this video. I enjoyed it immensely.
Love this style of video! Beautiful scenery. What a neat spring! Those burls would make for some fantastic wood turning! And, of course, thank you for the insights on your re-reads!
I went through my Ray Bradbury binge phase in middle school and he remains one of my favorite authors of all time, 48(ish) years later. LOVED The Illustrated Man! The 2001 novel was technically a "novelization" of the movie, which was based on Clarke's short story "The Sentinel," originally published in 10-Story Fantasy in 1951. Clarke lost me after 2061, which I remember only "kinda" liking, but was that ever really meant to be a series…? I don't think so! I share your opinion of Catch-22 and Hunter Thompson… time hasn't necessarily been kind to their attitudes, but the writing itself is amazing. Love the snakes, too--don't be afraid, just watch your step!
I didn't know that about "The Sentinel" but i knew the book and the movie were produced in concert with each other. I've really enjoyed going back and rereading all these books. There are others I've re read in the last few years as well that didn't make these lists (had to cap it somewhere!) I really enjoy seeing how my opinions evolve over the years.
