Okay THIS is why I love Dave, he doesnt assume we have all these fancy tools, he comes up with common man ways of making stuff
Dave - I've been watching your channel for years now. Your willingness to gather, adapt, and disseminate knowledge makes this whole community grateful.
Mr. Canterbury, I am constantly disappointed at the know-it-all do-nothings especially on social media. I am someone that has done a great variety of things, do to my semi-rural upbringing and love of nature not things. You sir, continue to Blow Me Away constantly! Your base of knowledge, makes me seem like a little kid in comparison. You have challenged me to step up my game. My kids, and the young guys in my church need guys like us. Just like we needed real men that came before us. Thank you Sir. Now its time to build a forge.
Thank you brother

God Bless’d trails mate
And may God bless you as well !
These last couple videos are the like the ones that got me to subscribe years ago. I'm so glad to see you going back to them. Thanks Dave!
Unfortunately they are not the type that get many views so you have to mix it up to make a few bucks eh'
Now this is the man I started to even consider be’n a mentor to me!!!!!!
Thanx Dave
Once again thank you for the knowledge you share with us. I have learned alot from you over the years. Take care
Thanks for the great video. raising up those around you teaching teaching teaching
I'm Really liking the new shop setup closed in and well lit.
Thanks man
Cutting edge self reliance knowledge and skills as usual.
I like it Dave! I always wondered how they made the holes for leather garments.
You make that look easy with the bench grinder but it takes a steady hand and a sharp eye to get those tines almost perfect like that. The stitching line in the leather looked as good as what my Tandy model can make :) Very nice job as always Dave
I love that "forging serie" sir! Making tools for making other tools is a bit like a daily chess game. Once you get use to think a few moves ahead, you can simplify your life a whole lot in many aspect of it.
It's very uncommon to see an orthodoxal English speaker! Thanks for the video, and God bless you!
Excellent series! Thanks, Dave!
Hey Dave love your videos, I am working on me a knife sheath for my EDC I'm like you I make my own tools when I'm in need.
I needed a tool like this to space my stitches out. So I'm all about what you call down n dirty so I went to the kitchen and commandeered me a fork not a regular fork a salad fork the tynes are shorter and don't bend as easily. I found this works great, I don't know how the wife feels about it YET I'm sure I'll hear about it as soon as she figures it out.
I thought about cutting it off and putting a handle on it. Anyway just thought I would pass it forward.
Keep up the good videos.
Knowledge and skill I’m going to have a go and make one, thanks for sharing Dave 👌
Another great little project! Thanks again brother 👍🏽👍🏽😎
Yes yes this is the real bushcraft in the woods
Dont remember stating that it was?, I have like 1300 videos, plenty of bushcraft troll elsewhere-
Damn old man, looking built. No homo just impressed
A stitch punch can also be made using a big fork or serving type fork. You can make one from a gasket scraper too, and as long as you dont get it real hot you wont need to mess with heat-treating it after (slowly and gently) cutting the tines with a small cut-off wheel.
@@dash8465 where'd that come from
Billy who won forged in fire is a member of our good ol boys blacksmith group in rutherfordton nc. Jordan will go on next. It would be great to have you at one of our get togethers sometime.
" if you don't have all these fancy tools like I do here in the shop...." Ok, sorry I had to chuckle at that. Don't get me wrong, I love your shop, like how you made your portable band saw into a table band saw was great. Your shop is very functional but the word "fancy" never entered my mind.
Love from Greece! 😉
Thanks David. I've used a few of your tricks in my time..wasn't a comfy or cozy situation, but My butt Made it Home safe and sound. I hate to get long winded but... When I was a young dumbass I stuck-up a Jeep in a creek crossing with my two young boys 7 an 9, water flowing through the Jeep , soaked to the bone and 25°f out.. 2 miles off the beaten path and starting to panic.
I stood 3 ft off the grill in 2ft. of Fast flowing, icy , Creek water and told them boys to climb on Daddy and We're getting warm.. Stripped down built a roaring fire and begged them boys Not to tell Mom I gotta run up top of a hill for cell service.. Fastest call ever and the Calvary was on the way.
My buddy I called said serves you right trying take a Jeep thru Ford Country.. I said, "Man , my babies are with Me!" He lived 20min. away, an got there in 10.. !
💯❤️🇺🇸 !
I was thinking about doing some leather stitching not too long ago. I might make one of these!
This is so cool it's like Dave knew what I needed in my life and said here you go this is how you make these tools that you just been to hell out of this week doesn't matter how soft the Mallet is my punch is always wear out. Thanks for sharing friend much love-TTO
Nice job brother, this is a good project!
Love that bench for that saw
Nice! I'm about to start making some leather working tools so this is great 👌
looks like a fun project
Looking huge Dave.
Thanks man, not my true intent but whatever happens eh'
That looks useful in my shop when I work on leather. Thank you
Legal Davy! Sou do Brasil e seu Fã! Gosto muito do seu conteúdo aqui no youtube!
I love to make tools, thanks dave
I have some cheapo allen wrenches I could use for this. Great video Dave, thanks Brother
Would work great
Dave Tren Canterbury. Looking good man ;)
Never touch the stuff
@@DavidCanterbury Ya, well honestly, I work out quite often and have always been around that crowd.
Its honestly better for people to take it at your age since your test is lower then someone in his twenties. Im pretty sure you arent trying to get massive or anything. But Just wanted to let you know its noticeable. Your traps got alot bigger, Keep it up.
Thanks man
Man you got jacked 💪
I Came from Cavallini's Channel!
Is it just me or is Dave looking more JACKED lately?
What camera are you using? The footage is incredibly clear and sharp.
I wonder if a guy could use a dinner fork, shorten and sharpen the tines flatten out the fork/handle curve and drill the handle and sandwich with flat bar and rivet for strength. Just incase a guy doesn't have a forge. Lots of different sizes available from kiddies size and up. Lots a flea markets etc. Nice video thanks. 👍
Good stuff Dave! I need me a tote gote, hard to find around my area.
From 🇧🇷 Brasil, Cavellini in Shot Show Las Vegas.
Dave, could you do the same thing by cutting off a thick stainless steel butter knife and shaping the remaining blade section with a Dremel tool? That would save a fair amount of work.
Sure
You can use an old fork. Flatten it out, and shorten the tines. Works in the same way.
Dave do you have plans or can you point me to where I can purchase some to make a grinder like yours?
Grizzly
@@DavidCanterbury Thanks
I came from Cavallini’s Channel
I wonder how he got that big Anvil in his workshop..that thing is huge!

This is a good idea but if your not that good or havnt got the funds or tools to do this then use a four prongued stainless steel fork to mark the holes in leather then use two nails to punch holes into leather with a hammer. You use two nails in a leap frog action ie knock one nail in knock secound nail in then remove first nail to third mark this way the leather stays in place and holes are uniform as I said this is a good project but I do not have any of the power tools you have here if I did I would make one
I Came from Cavallini's Channel
Did you get the stock idea from old Allen wrenches? Love these vids.
Not really we use a lot of this size stock for Bedroll Squirrel cookers so we have plenty of falloff to work with
Huh. Now I know what a pricking iron is. Learn something new everyday.
Lookin swole brother
Why not quench in 140 degree oil?
Water will cool it faster, so it will be harder that way, due to the material it wont get hard enough to be brittle and require tempering-
👍
Cool video. I love leather work. I've just been eyeballing where I want the holes to be (one at a time), and then pound an awl through or drill. So then it's not even. -more like the caveman look...
I got here thanks to Celso Cavallini's video, Brasil!
Hello! Greetings from Moscow
So basic Tools Plus a 500 lb anvil?
Or a smaller on, or even a I beam or RR Track section as I have shown in countless videos past?
I need onde🤗
I love you videos but I wish they had captions.
keep makimg videos luv them thanks
Fucking huge now holy shit
I thought pricking iron was another name for a fork
It looks like a chisel, the kind for metal not wood, with notches cut into it
Vim pelo Celso cagallini
Looks like a fork.
