    We have a few trucks with pads on the front. Much easier to change than shoes but those calipers and disks are crazy heavy ! Great video keep up the great work

      I talked to a salesman about a trailer with disc brakes. I cant remember if it adds 48lbs per axle or wheel end. Surprised me

    It’s pronounced mer-i-tore haha. Good content. I’m an aftermarket salesman- as a mechanic it’s very impressive from a salesman’s POV to know not only what you’re talking about but explaining in detail. Keep it coming!

    Hi There, If the piston boots are split then thats where the water might have come in, but the usual source of water ingress is through the air chamber front shell if the boot has become damaged. The air chambers are great, but the rubber boot is critical, it has to seal on the mounting face and then the boot section has to seal on the pushrod. If either of these points are damaged then the caliper will get water in from the front shell (which is open to atmosphere) and its only a matter of time before the caliper seizes. You may fit a new caliper only to have the same issue a few months down the road if the air chamber has sealing issues.

      Typically we have a bad chamber problem but yes, what i have seen is usually piston seal failure (somwtimes burnt up due to excessive heat, also due to spring failure)

    In my humble opinion this is a great video because it is genuine and real. Stay Hydrated Brother.

    Great video thanks brother. I have not done any work on the disc system. I know heavy equipment has them but I stayed away from them. The truck side of things might change next year or two. I know that they are talking about it for the race trucks. The European truck seires runs them. I think they are trying to figure out how to spray the water on them. Just seems like there is more wgt to them. This was a great video thanks brother. Big boy pants for sure even drum brakes . A jack would be a great thing. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother

      yup, quite a bit of mass on them, but air system quite a bit smaller, only 2 tanks both 13"wx24"L (one of course split tank). for drums one of the drum dollies does help ton and does make doing our trailer brakes lil nicer for sure! thanks for watching

    Interesting, never messed with disks on a big truck, I don't think they offer them on 20klb front axles and 52k rears yet? But anyways, I'd like to see how the can bolts up and how u determine rod length, and how to adj. That be a interesting follow up to this video. Thanks, love the education

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  6 років тому +1

      Kwmike-D that i could do, it is... definitely different to say least. But pads and rotors on the cascadias are same on steer and drive axles, steer cans are of course lil smaller, but left side and right side calipers are different. See what i can try to do for follow up vid

    Nice video! I never worked on air disc brakes but ive seen them. What do you prefer in terms of doing the maintenance/working on them? Disc or Drums?

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  6 років тому +1

      When it comes to changing out pads vs shoes, pads all way, brake cans fairly easy as well, as far as doing wheel seals though shoe/drum style little easier (plain hub alot lighter lol) thank you for watching

    • @sebhac0123
      @sebhac0123 6 років тому

      Yeah i see what you're saying for doing wheel seals. If the rotor is bolted to the hub, its more work. Thanks for the reply

  • @mattyhughes88
    @mattyhughes88 4 роки тому +1

    Once you get the disc off the hub how do you get it back on? Would a bit of wood and a hammer work or do you need a certain pressing tool?

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  4 роки тому

      When we replace them the rotor kit comes with new boths, i get everything alignedand all bolts started by hand, then use air impact in cris-cross pattern (like would tire) then go back over again to make sure tight

      10mm socket for the special 11 tooth shear nut, Lisle makes an 11 tooth specialty socket, like this one amzn.to/3TnEDt0

    That caliper is completely repairable.... At least in Europe, and it might be actually the easiest of them all to fix or replace the parts inside. In general is the most commonly used

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  2 роки тому

      Past couple years kits finally became available to refurn in shop stateside, prior to that however, there wasnt even a core charge on these calipers. Now though there is and reman market is higher demand.

  • @VARITHMS

    I wonder if the heat from the exhaust has anything to do with the caliper. On our trucks the exhaust is very near there

      I dont know, we havent had any tire, ujoint,driveline, or hose issues... will occasionally see pinion seals go bad though. But havent seen anything else get hot or damaged in process. Even coming in off the road and checking tires havent seen or felt like one side warmer than other. Goodquestion though!
