Picked up a 1963 B25 with the original plastic bridge still intact a month ago. Out of the 9 acoustic guitars I own the B 25 stands out above the rest.
Replacement of that adjustable bridge is the most common modification to that generation of Gibson’s. The only redeeming aspect of that bridge is that it appears to be made of wood instead of the black plastic bridges that Gibson used for a while when they really went the “elcheapo” route.
Great shape for it's age. What a value for 1968. We have a 68, b25, 12 string that Lorraine's father purchased for her. A great little 12 string.
Had a B-25 in very good condition like yours. Was given to me from a friend whose father owned it from new. Didn’t love the way it played, I sold it for $1,700 and bought a higher end Taylor with the proceeds. Couldn’t be happier 😊
Thanks for sharing. Walking us through the reasons it’s special.
I’ve watched and appreciated your content since 2019 and your guitar playing has really come along way over the years. Always knowledgeable and informative and your love for the guitar always shines through 🤘 great guitar find 🎸
I had no idea those older affordable gibsons had any laminate. That one is gorgeous. And sounds beautiful. Always love the playing, Jer. Little bit of ty, little bit of isbell, seems like a stapleton gibson, his are beat up!
I have one and i love everything about it ...plays like a dream
I have a 1967 B25-N and it is the love of my life.
What a beautiful guitar!
I have a 1963 Gibson B-25. It makes a very sweet sound.
My parents bought me a cherry sunburst B-25 for my 14 th birthday in 1966. It was mind blowing to me at the time. I traded it for an electric guitar after about 2 years. It sounded great.
King of Oklahoma on the intro was awesome. Keep up the great content!
My first guitar was a 1969 B-25. I went to a guitar store in Portsmouth N.H. with $200 cash that my mom had given me. I wanted a B-25 because one of my best friends had one. For that money I did not get a case. I kept it for around 3 years and traded it for a Framus Texan. To this day I do not regret getting rid of it because it had that famous late 60's, early 70"s shouting into a pillow Gibson sound. I've never even thought that about any Martin that I've owned.
Such a cool guitar. As you said, such mojo. Two years ago at Carters Vintage guitars I played a couple of very vintage small body Gibson and Martins. So much feeling in those beauties. I prefer the single, double, and triple 0 sizes to dreads but that’s because that’s how I started many years ago. Thank you again for another fine video.
Love the Isbell tunes as always…
Nice sounding Gibson guitar
Lady May ! Nice ! ..... Beautiful guitar
Great video, Jeremy. It looks like another guitar I need to keep an eye out for. It sounds pretty balanced low-end to high-end tones. What did you start playing at 3:04 in the video? Were you just improvising, or is that an original? Very nice...
I cut a piece of Brazilian rosewood for a plug, to tightly fit my "65" Texan"s adjustable saddle area. Then routed that insert for a bone saddle. No more adjustable saddle, with it's clicky sound. I get it, some want that sound, I do not. And man does it sound great now. What a difference.
The way I did it though, was to tightly fit the plug so no glue was needed. That means that if anyone wants to go back to that cheap adjustable saddle, it can be done very easily. So my guitar wasn't permanently altered. I can very highly recommend this mod, if you want to get rid of that '60s clicky sound.
Man! Almost sounds like a dread. Great tone.
I am a fan of retaining the ceramic saddles
I have two Gibsons and one Epiphone that have that set up and all sound fantastic
I’ve swapped the adj. set up for a filled and set saddle on a few other guitars and honestly I did not hear an improvement
Others results may vary
The ceramic saddles record really well
interesting
It has a beautiful tone. I know you probably have a video on this question.....but what pick do you use? Your strumming tone is so clean!!!
Last time Jeremy mentioned it, I believe they were Dunlop Prime Tones. He should have a link to his Sweetwater channel in the description. If you purchase them, a few coins will end up in Jeremy’s pocket and an angel will get its wings.
Jeremy, very cool guitar.. I think my A Loprinzi is good for me although that neck looks great. I don't mind a thin neck at all. What capo made those marks? You mentioned it, but never went back. My 1968 Airline doesn't have such marks. I have a nice Epiphone Frontier with double pick guards made in Bozeman Montana. Probably aimed for my oldest son. Thanks
The tone got me when you started to fingerstyle.
I played a friend's B-25 and it didn't sound half as good as yours. Love that double guard, but I definitely found them hard to play with my bigger hands. They were probably perfect for young players in the late 60s.
What a fantastic video have a good weekend also do you have regrets when looking back in life ❤😊
The B-25’s were Gibson’s cheapening of their LG-2. The B-25’s had laminated bodies. There is a good reason why Gibson reissued the LG-2 and not the B-25.
Great sound and I know that capo mark as when I was a teenager I had one it to was cheap 5:13
sounds cool, what happened to it?
You spoke of the adjustable bridge as if it is a good thing. Truth is both Gibson and those who copied the idea such as Alvarez, et. Al. Have the same problem--the only point of contact between the saddle/bridge and the the sound board top is those two screws instead of the entire length of the saddle. It's a horrible idea that cuts down on sound.
The upgrade to the tusq material is an upgrade. If I'd keep it I'd swap it to a filled bridge and set saddle.
I am probably one of the few Person who likes the adj bridge, i mean sure It makes the Guitar sounds different but Is the sound of and era for me and i love It. I own One and i dont reccomend to anyone the swap.
And about the contact point, like every violin or archtop Guitar has a bridge with only 2 points of contact, thats why Is called "bridge".
Btw this thing sounds nice and crisp
You didn't let us know about the capo that made that mark. Hamilton capos would do something like that if the pad fell off or wore out. Was it a Hamilton?
Sold already?
Oh noooo… sloped shoulder
😲
This is what Furry Lewis played in his later years.
It's been bastardised with a strap buttton on the heel. That's very bad, so no deal
